My ten-year-old nephew and his best friend are visiting. Today they were out on the cul-de-sac zooming around on scooters. My neighbors CALLED THE COPS to say "children were unsupervised." COPS came to our door because 10 yo children were playing in front of my house.
UCSC. My daughter stood arm-in-arm with her friends all night, peacefully protesting.The police slowly surrounded them. In the morning, the cops arrived in full riot gear. Cops circulated with zip ties selecting whom to arrest. They picked those they disliked. 1/n
If this is true, the cops effectively selected him for expulsion. He will fail his classes. I am worried for our youth. I am worried because I have Kent State in my mind. When cops use their power to punish protest, Kent State is a real possibility. 5/end
Maybe someone yelled an insult, or was the wrong race, or looked like their ex-girlfriend? It felt personal, intentional. As they stood there all night glaring at these idealistic students peacefully protesting, the cops had made choices, and in the morning 2/n
My daughter is quiet, and small. She was not arrested. Her best friend, who is larger and male, was selected for arrest. He is in jail. There are two weeks left in the quarter, including finals week. He lives on campus. Word is he will not be allowed on campus for 2 weeks. 4/n
when the reinforcements arrived in full riot gear, the cops chose who would go to jail. (you can see how peaceful the protestors were in this video)3/n

These people don't see their children as independent human beings. They view them as possessions, like a car. I mean, even if there isn't a serious issue, maybe the burgeoning adult in the kid wants some privacy and autonomy.
@prntgdcolonized
I can verify that being beaten stops a kid from listening. All I felt was fear. I don't remember what the punishment was for, but I sure do remember the fear.

That smile -- every woman knows that smile she has plastered on her face: "Please don't hurt me please leave me alone but please don't get angry at me"

The same student are completing anonymous student evaluations of teaching that in the U.S. (idk about Canada) are used to determine pay and contracts.
@clhubes
My 4yo once: "That dresses looks bad on you Mommy. " He pauses. Thinks as only 4yolds can. "Which is strange, because usually you are beautiful."

His dad owned an airline. She was a ballerina at Juilliard. He bullied her into premature marriage. He gets to live his dream life, and she gets to pump out babies.
@VABVOX
I grew up on Foodstamps, wearing Freebox clothes and eating beans and rice. It sucked and was really scary for a child. Some of my earliest memories are of fearing homelessness.
@ElieNYC
Are you capable of being pregnant? If not, perhaps do not presume to predict the depths of rage that will be felt by people who can become pregnant and have always been sure they can make a choice about that.

She’s insinuating that they did it (have large bodies, presumably) to themselves and therefore don’t deserve treatment. She’s awful.

My mom's hospice nurse helped me so much, especially when I was feeling I had "killed" my mom because I caught a cold. Even after my mom died, the hospice workers continued to check on me. The grief of the family is part of the dying process.
@fklein907
In my fantasies, I would have answered, "How strange. We teach our child that hitting people is wrong." But mom-shaming really affected me when my kids were tiny, so I might have just seethed with my back to the guy. I admire your response.
@sheologian
he had turned around and followed me. He grabbed me, held a knife to my throat, and said, "Don't make a sound; it's not worth dying over." I made a HUGE sound and managed to escape. Now I honor my ick.

Powerpoint has waaay more interesting design options than Google Slides, imo -- and I lecture 300 students every week, so I make a lot of slides.

I thought you only wrote about what you know? You don't know it was "tightly choreographed. You don't know VP Harris was "determined" to do anything. Those are just THEE guesses you make.
@cooltxchick
Also, in middle school girls have PERIODS. My daughter once bled through her pants because her stupid teacher wouldn't let her go to the bathroom.
@katiedimartin
WOW. I'm a professor. I would NEVER do this to a student. Financial aid depends on enrollment (setting aside mental health, physical health, etc), and most of my students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
@DrJenGunter
Let's not forget that a lot of women are also shamed for breastfeeding. I was yelled at, sent to dark closets, and made to feel I was sexually abusing children for bf in front of them. How about we just help women, whatever their choices.

Maybe read up on child development, developmentally appropriate impulse control, and developmental capacity for long term memory. You are asking those kids to retain and plan in ways their brains are not capable of doing.
@DrRayMD
I am hopeful that somewhere in here people will acknowledge that being unwashed or without teeth brushed is often a sign of poverty and neglect, as it was in my case when I was a child.

Pregnancy caused the tunnels for the nerves to my wrists to permanently narrow and I had to have surgery on both wrists in order to feel my fingers again, but do go on.
@stacybmitchell
The names, too. I have a really weird name. I think super weird names are child abuse. Names seem very minor (being whipped with a belt was traumatic for me too), but the thing about names is that you suffer with them FOREVER, or until you change them as an adult.

Oh, absolutely! I'm saying that since women's pleasure is devalued in our culture, the lack of a "useful" purpose (in the eyes of the culture, not my opinion) makes medical researchers indifferent.

The partner of an 18 yo pregnant woman in our prenatal class, when asked what to do if the laboring woman starts vomiting, offered, with wild enthusiasm,"Get a bucket!" and we often say this to each other for no particular reason with the same naive enthusiasm.

In grad. school I was walking home at about 8 at night. A man approached me, walking in the opposite direction. I was frightened, but felt guilty and immediately smiled and said hello. 10 minutes later, as I turned onto my pleasant residential street, I heard a noise. 1/2

I just read their terms of use. Their policies are really broad and vague. I suspect this will cause them problems, as it has every single site. I wonder what they will do when the first mom posts a pic. of her breastfeeding her baby.
@JudiciaryGOP
A deeply conservative judge would have laid down his body in the streets to stop them from rejecting votes. He also testifies that rejecting the electors would have started a revolution.
