I do think that using the work of other fans unacknowledged and without their consent violates the ethos of fandom. if someone remixed my fic, I'd expect them to credit me! if someone lifted whole sections from my fic without credit, I'd report the fic as plagiarism

I can't tell if someone uses my fic in an AI generated work. neither can the person who generated it. that's the problem! they can't credit me or acknowledge that relationship. I don't get to see what my work inspired for them. it is a fundamentally one-sided relationship

Ao3 has an existing plagiarism policy and has for a decade. AI fic can't acknowledge the sources it uses - that's not how AI works. and on Ao3, that's plagiarism, plain and simple.
