@UnlimitedEdge To be fair, 2 was loosely adapting concepts from Sonic 2 and 3&K, games that had no actual scripts and mostly were colorful fantasy zone gameplay. Sonic Adventure 2 as a story takes place with humans, and has an actual script to adapt, not just concepts to put in part of a movie

@invaderalex In all fairness, Ikuhara’s one of the few actual artsy creatives working in anime. Most TV anime tends to keep movement highly limited so it can draw more detailed characters and doesn’t make the cinematography much better to compensate. But he’s just got style and finesse.

I enjoy this trope, but mainly in the context of a story that genuinely pushes these beliefs to a breaking point and emphasizes the protagonist’s own insecurities/flawed understanding of people here to possibly even having them go through a negative character arc.
