@mariocavolo Chinese are travelling domestically because it's cheaper? Thailand is actually much cheaper destination than for example Xishuangbanna. In fact, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam are all cheaper for the Chinese to travel than for example Hainan.

There are a lot of people like that, doing things not just for the money, but simply don't like to sit idle day long.

@thinking_panda I'm Thai and have been to Nanjing and many places in China as well as Taipei. Streets in Chinese major cities are definitely cleaner and more orderly than Taiwan. Many backstreets in Taipei kind of reminds of Bangkok with rubbish littered.

@SteveWeaverTEFL In October, I was on holiday in Xishuangbanna and road signs and shops had Dai writing. Even announcement on the train was in Chinese, English and Tai Lue. As a Thai, I was surprised how much I understood Tai Lue. I'd say it's like Spanish and Italian.

@zhao_dashuai During my trip through Laos and Southern China, I've been amazed by the rapid progress. It makes me feel like my home country Thailand is still a 3rd world country. China's progress is thanks to a stable government which cares for its citizens.

@Eivor_Koy Qing ming is the only time of the year where my extended family gets together at my grandparents grave. My father speaks Thai and Chaozhou and can't really read Chinese, which is common for his generation. My generation, we don't even speak Chinese anymore. Only Thai.

@notXiangyu I was on holiday in Xishuangbanna and signs had Tai Lue script everywhere. The old script is identical to old Lanna script which are written everywhere on temples in north Thailand. As a Thai, I was able to communicate with Tai Lue if we spoke slowly.

@BeijingDai Northern route (the one you called "west") hasn't started yet. Northeastern route is being built slowly because although built with Chinese help, Thailand decided it would finance it without loan from China. Because Chinese debt trap, you know. So construction speed is very slow.

@zapatas_mom I live in Samui, Thailand and I don't even lock my house door. Outside my house, I have brand new aircons and tvs stored waiting to be moved to our new house currently under renovations. Whenever I go to China, I feel it's even safer than Thailand.

@XH_Lee23 I'd previously stay away from TCL TVs which would break after a year or so. Now I buy only TCL TVs which offer great value for money. I've also stopped buying Mitsubishi aircons and buy TCL TAC-Pro models at 1/3 price and equally good performance and energy efficiency.

@luo_yuehan My father is Teochew Chinese, my mother is Thai. My great granddad emmigrated to Thailand. I grew up in Norway, but have moved back to Thailand. I don't speak Mandarin. But I have exactly same outlook as Edison. I'm proud of my Chinese ancestry and what China has achieved.

Finally arrived at the huge new Vientiane railway station. You build the infrastructure, then progress and wealth will follow. All express mail goods from China to Thailand are now being shipped by train via Laos. Laos is also shipping a lot of agricultural produce to China.
