Never seen much concern in the Tory papers about state schools closing in areas of falling rolls. Indeed this has frequently been celebrated by those on the right as evidence that the “market” is working. Welcome to our world.

We are indeed going to see a lot of stories about private schools that have seen falling rolls for years, in areas of oversupply, blaming their inevitable closure on VAT. (About 40 or so close every year have and have for decades.)

Just thinking about my mother, who is very old but wouldn't forgive me for saying how old. She has contributed in so many ways over her long life & is dependent on the BBC for company and entertainment much of the time. No way would she cope with subscriptions. Forget it now.
