It’s a small game about a fisherman that lives on a remote island. For the main game loop you’ll have to gather various fish and ingredients as not to go hungry. You’ll cook up dishes and learn new recipes as you go 2/3

Been playing a fair bit of Helldivers 2 recently, there's this cool "raindrops on screen" effect that I've tried to recreate here. It's rather subtle so hopefully twitter compression won't ruin it 🤞

Rather than having an inventory for the player to manage I was thinking of having these movable containers. The idea: collecting a resource will spawn a container, acting as a temporary "inventory" until you transfer its contents into your main chest in the house #GodotEngine

spent today making something i've been wanting to do since the start of the project! wasn't sure it was possible fully procedurally animated cloud projections (that also affect sprites!) can probably also be used for all kinds of caustic effects like water reflection ripples etc

@passivestar_ I've put the bending logic into a gdshaderinc so it can be easily reused across multiple shaders. Most things are using the same material that read the colours of a simple palette texture. It works well enough for the toon aesthetic but probably not much good for anything else.

@NickDCarver Why would you take a photo with your phone rather than paying a photographer? Simply because the tech exists. And despite giving an inferior result, it's easier, cheaper and more practical. Yet professional photographers still exist. Let me ask you, how is this any different?

@passivestar_ I've only used the built in blender import but have encountered similar issues. The safest I've found is to avoid inherited scenes entirely. I create a new Node3D and drop the file into the scene. If it breaks I can keep the script, nodes signals etc and just reimport the model

@Xilandro I have been toying with some narrative ideas, maybe a line of quests to accomplish but it's not yet set in stone. I'm not yet sure how far I'm willing to push the narrative aspect. The project started as a way of learning Godot and I'd prefer to keep the scope on the small side

@NotJamGames Thanks, this may be what I end up using just to be on the safe side. Yeah I imagine putting Chinese glyphs into a few pixels must be quit hard and in some cases impossible, I guess otherwise there's always the option of using a font per language 🤷

@FR3NKD Design patterns seem to be a tricky one as there are many ways of achievement a similar result. It can be a matter of personal preference. That being said Godot leans towards the "composition" patterns whenever it can there are a few videos on this already that are quite good

@Steve8708 Seeing as a lot of apps have added these “quick access” menus, it would be great if all these actions could be accessed directly from Spotlight or @raycastapp . Having a global way of doing this would be a lot nicer than each app having their own implementation imo.

@FR3NKD Not necessarily, nothing prevents you from making an entire game with "bad" code. It all depends on your mindset. The perfectionist in me means I often find myself reworking systems to make my life easier in the long run but not everyone is like that

@NagiDev @Akien There's a great video on YouTube by @CrigzVsGameDev , but put simply there are multiple points that sample the wave's height and then apply force onto the boat's rigidbody if they are under water. The tricky part is getting the CPU calculations to math the GPU shaders

@huntingmammoth Compared to my time with Unity I've found it very beginner friendly and except for the crashes it's actually be quite fun. The node based system is kinda like building with building blocks and then gluing them together with code. There's a surprising amount of stuff built in

@passivestar_ I'm not quite sold on this. The left indentation helped readability, I can tell at a glance that it's a list. And the "add element" button should stay at the bottom. If I'm adding items and have 3 or more items already I don't won't to have to scroll back to the top each time.

Of course it may take quite a bit of trial and error to get right. But collected ressources will probably be able to be stacked into one container, maybe only slow the players speed based on the amount of items in the container etc. I don't want it to become a "chore"
