Palworld's overwhelming success is the first step in the normalization of generative ai slop games which is really, really depressing.
10 years ago an asset flip game like this would have been relentlessly ridiculed lol
disgusting awful wretched creatures calling this an improvement
corridor digital is composed of professional artists, they know what looks good, this is nothing more than a grift and they are certainly being paid lots of money to shill ai.
composited the edge ascii and luminance ascii and blended with quantized base color, looks pretty nice i think but this is going to be compressed so bad
with/without edges below
fyi there are no rules or regulations with AI, there is no law requiring its use be divulged, it is entirely possible to use AI and then hide it well enough that no one would ever know, and that is a future rapidly approaching.
It's been 1 year since I went full time as a youtuber and quit my job doing graphics for Sony. Even though I make far less money and work more hours, I'm happy I did as the freedom of my own schedule is all I've ever wanted.
Here's a review of everything I did in the past year:
I've been wondering this whole time how they got such nice and distinct hair shadows, maybe it's screen space shadows or something, but no it's literally just a mesh
by the way elden ringers the reason these flowers look so magical is entirely because of bloom (that effect everyone says they hate)
you can see how it looks without bloom in the replies
here's the CEO of Pocketpair talking about using AI to bypass copyright, generating fakemons with it, calling AI: Art Imposter a real-time image generation game, and being excited for games powered by GPT-4
@muuyo_
a lot of the game is default unreal assets, and the ceo of the company is pretty bullish on generative ai and considering how derivative the pal designs are they are almost certainly ai generated
not to mention the ceo tweeted about how to make ai generated pokemon designs lol
Start of game dev VS now :)
I think that is the second Raspberry Pi that came out :)
I hosted a website on it with a very simple HTML clicker game 😅 I was so happy 🥹😆
Nick Evanson has been covering games for 20+ years, there is absolutely no excuse for this kind of ignorance in 2023
@pcgamer
should be embarrassed about posting trash like this, but it gets clicks from people mad that it's a stupid thing to say and people mad because they dont
Manor lords has one of the coolest features in a city builder ever where you can actually walk around your town on foot
accidentally clicked the button and was like woww
I would avoid using google as it's entirely capable of feeding you complete misinformation. I would argue getting your info from newspaper is the most important skill to have 😂😂
@Acerola_t
clowning with the rules of their gamejam
This is inconsequential, there are definitely numerous other issues that have to do with HDRP being a mess causing the performance problems, not rendering like 100 tris for teeth on two humans in the scene.
Highly likely the teeth get occlusion culled anyways.
apparently one of cities skylines 2's many performance issues is that it uses high poly models for each of the thousands of people walking around your city. including their individual teeth
the physics is so good here that the boat in the back forgets what direction it was facing and then transcends space and time to correct itself and then the video cuts before it gets even worse.
sorry I'm supposed to be on vacation but I couldn't help it
If you think OpenAI Sora is a creative toy like DALLE, ... think again. Sora is a data-driven physics engine. It is a simulation of many worlds, real or fantastical. The simulator learns intricate rendering, "intuitive" physics, long-horizon reasoning, and semantic grounding, all
for all the people that sent me death threats, insulted me, told me to kill myself, etc. over my palworld tweet all I'm asking is that you put a bit more malice behind that in the future
this is probably the coolest thing I've ever made, the grass and flowers look so great!
it's neat how the effect captures the rain but it's a little hard to tell without the audio cue
A huge announcement!!
Please look forward to the first ever Acerola Jam, surely the start of what will become the greatest game jam event in history 🙏🙏
Since I get so many comments about it I'm not trans nor do I have any sense of dysphoria, I have an eating disorder and I have medium length hair. I would prefer if my identity was respected.
Sorry I can't be your representation but I am a basic cis white guy
people are talking about this like game devs are being whipped to make the fidelity of RDR2 but every dev i've ever worked with actively wants to produce that fidelity cause it's fun to them which is why they're the ones making games and not the people that think it torturous
Super excited to announce I'll be at SIGGRAPH this month thanks to
@nvidia
!
I'll be attending OpenUSD day as well as the OpenUSD labs so if you're around you should come check it out!
new video up on the channel now!
Why Photorealistic Graphics And Stylized Graphics Are The Same
probably my most valuable video so far don't say I never did anything for u
it's dope that a company can make a big anti-AI announcement and then just post AI art while lying and saying it isn't without consequence
probably time to stop buying magic cards ok gang thanks
I see now why there's basically no literature on these things in 3D because visualizing them is a nightmare lol and 200k points isn't even really enough to fill the shape
if I had more time I could try to devise a lighting solution but I'm just a boy
All finished with the water shader I think, just need to parameterize it instead of having everything hard coded so I can make it look nicer lol
just need to layer multiple spectrums now for more interesting movement over time and less tiling.
made the foam look better on stream today
also optimized the fft compute shader enough that the output of displacement/normals went from 2.7ms -> 1.56ms for a 512x512 spectrum.
Pretty big win since I'm gonna simulate another 3 spectrums
Yeah people dont like when I say this so I have invented a whole story for people that need direction but it really just is years of ???????? and then magically you know some things
Q: how did you learn [___], do you have any books to recommend?
A: yeah no I read zero books, it was a blur of obsessive indulgence across hundreds of scattered sources online and experimental coding and then years later I somehow came out the other end knowing a lot about it
Ludwig's advice to be delusional about finding success as a creator is pretty accurate lol
When I started out, several of my friends said they'd be surprised if my videos ever worked out but I saw the vision (and refined it), was delusional, and found success (got lucky)
One last addition to the smoke
Previously I was only doing distance from origin falloff, which resulted in obvious voxels when the smoke propagated around corners but was still close to the origin.
Now I'm doing a trilinear sample of the voxel grid to get a smooth gradient
Obviously I don't agree with what asmongold said but I don't think it's okay to make fun of his lifestyle when quite frankly that is what depression looks like even though no one wants to admit it.
We can disagree with each other without insulting appearance and stuff too lol
for the record pc requires far more overhead now because gamers expect their 10 series cards to be able to at least play new AAA releases on low settings. This means new releases need to have support for those low settings to begin with, and in the current day of ray tracing
new video tomorrow please look forward to it
I'd release it early but like I have so many chores I need to do in preparation for PAX so please understand
@pelvisbass1
the company has used tons of generative ai tools for all their projects, maybe they should have respect for the hundreds of thousands of artists they have effectively stolen from and also blatantly ripped designs from idk
the water shader is fully pbr now and is composed entirely of reflections as well as approximated subsurface scattering as god intended
the aliasing is majorly killing my vibes tho cant wait to fix that
the community notes on my post kind of just clarifies the actual problem i was talking about, how will anyone ever know generative ai was used for concepts unless they say it explicitly? They dont have to, they only have to disclose if the game contains ai assets per steam tos.
The all out attack title cards are cleverly drawn on top of the 3d model with a quick transition and the title card itself is a blend of a lot of different dynamic simple shapes
if you wanna up your graphic design game persona 3 reload is probably the best to ever do it rn
The theme for the first ever Acerola Jam is:
Aberration!
A theme with infinite possibilities limited only by your willingness to do what none of us want or expect.
You have 14 days! Good luck!
oops I misinterpreted the sea of thieves talk, they actually do like a progressive blur on the thresholded jacobian that also has some level of exponential decay
it's pretty hard to get it to not look weird, no texture also kinda hurts
-Microsoft lays off 1,900 Activision Blizzard and Xbox employees
-Blizzard president Mike Ybarra leaves the company
-Blizzard chief design officer Allen Adham leaves the company
-Blizzard's previously announced survival game is cancelled
absolutely no one has insinuated otherwise but I'm here to set the record straight that i am in fact a professional game developer proven by my record breaking profits
one issue with ascii shaders is that you're losing like 8-10x detail in order to fit the characters on the render, which usually results in everything becoming formless blobs without barrier.
I'm trying to fix this with some edge detection and it's not too bad looking so far.
one neat trick is using one material for the indirect light and another material for the direct light to create a material mask based on the light source, could do this with like a flashlight or something
Former Zynga COO Matthew Bromberg is the new CEO of Unity
The new chief exec will net an annual base salary of $850,000, a litany of stock awards, and sign-on bonus worth $2 million
I injected into the game with nsight to grab the bloom buffer and get a frame from before the bloom is applied
as you can see, the bloom makes a very big difference
this is also without fog though, as elden ring applies bloom/fog/tonemapping in one end pass
this is probably my favorite video of all time and i would do anything to have one of these pigs if you know where to get one i am begging you to enlighten me please thank you
this is such a great video that explains how calculus is applied in most graphics contexts. If you've struggled to think about ray marching as integration then definitely check this out, it also helps understand how shader quality is easily controlled
oh yeah i accidentally wrote another 40 minute long script except this time i cannot cut 10 minutes out of it
it'll be out on saturday please look forward to it
should i make one of those engagement farm threads talking about shell texturing as if it's some esoteric concept no one has ever seen before
thousands of grass blades rendered with only 204 triangles?!?!?!?! (don't look at it sideways)
@sethmannerz
not explicitly, but the company has used gen ai for other projects and a big reason why they arent saying they used ai for this game is to probably avoid being sued into the ground by nintendo
A huge announcement!!
Please look forward to the first ever Acerola Jam, surely the start of what will become the greatest game jam event in history 🙏🙏
