Taken a bit of flak for not mentioning Carolyn Hayes more in triathlon commentary. I get the frustration for those watching on @RTEsport but I’m working for the world feed which @RTEsport chose to broadcast (many other broadcasters worldwide similarly). That means no favouritism!

That was as good an atmosphere as I’ve experienced in Thomomd Pk. 26,000 fully engaged supporters in a bruising, brawling, beast of a game.. Not pretty but raw, engaging and bloody brave all round.

Sad to read of Jim’s passing. At my first ever away 6N game, in 1994, I was working for @98FM . France made team changes and I had no clue how to get the correct team. Overwhelming panic. To his eternal credit Jim took pity and gave me a copy of his notes. He didn’t know me. Kind.

Modern day commentators have a wealth of work from others to consider when developing style, approach, tempo and delivery. In 1949 Mícheál had himself, a game and a🎙️ His decision was to just be Mícheál- no rehash or mimic - listeners everywhere are richer for that originality.

Well there’s a first - 5.30aam woken by an earthquake. Very disconcerting. Seemingly, and this is not a scientific term, it was a tiddler. None the less think I might head for an early brekkie - 12th floor not feeling like my happy place 😆
