Some of y’all need to stop being so damn stupid about True Detective season 4. And when I’m mean some of y’all, I’m mean all the white dudes on this app.
Bradley Cooper shared his concerns about filming the scene featuring Leonard Bernstein conducting the London Symphony Orchestra. He mentioned, "That scene I was so worried about because we did it live... I was recorded live. I had to conduct them. And I spent six years learning
Anyone remember when the Oscars in 2009 had 5 former winners of the acting categories come out and talk about each nominees performance? This is one of my favorite Oscar moments and I wish they would do this again!

Steven Spielberg directed the hell out of The Fabelmans and deserves every award he gets this season. Y’all will just have to get over yourself if he wins an Oscar this year.

is a absolute winner! A movie about the belief people can have in one another when you push boundaries and have faith that gambles can pay off. Affleck’s steady direction shines along an all star cast, with Matt Damon and Viola Davis standing out. Go see this movie!!
Whoever wins Best Actress next Sunday will be a great winner. Both Cate and Michelle delivered outstanding performances and there is no need to bash one over the other. They have massive respect and love for each other. Let’s treat them the same!
This picture perfectly speaks to how everyone on Film Twitter forgot about Past Lives as soon as Barbie and Oppenheimer came out. Don’t forget about one of the best films of the year. It was literally the movie everyone couldn’t stop talking about for the first 6 months of 2023!
I’m going to say something controversial…I like Greta Grewig movies and Christopher Nolan movies and I can’t wait to see both films. Not everything needs to be compared. Let’s just enjoy the fact these films are coming out. No need to get negative and hate on either director.
If you can watch a whole season of TV in one sitting, you can watch long movies. Lord, some of y’all would’ve never survived back when movies had intermissions. Also, naming 12 movies when over 300 titles come out a year and saying there is a problem with run time is ridiculous.
Why are films long this year?
Avatar The Way of Water: 190 mins
Babylon: 188 mins
Wakanda Forever: 161 mins
Bardo, Elvis: 159 mins
Tár: 158 mins
The Fabelmans: 151 mins
All Quiet on the Western Front, Triangle of Sadness: 147 mins
Glass Onion, EEAAO, Decision to Leave: 139 mins
I don’t care what you say to me, THIS ISN’T REAL FILM JOURNALISM. Call me a snob or pretentious but there are plenty of hard working film journalists who would kill to cover an event like this, but instead, many have to fight to just get an invite to see the damn film. Messed up!
Wow guys; film journalism is moving in such a really awesome, cool, quirky, and fun direction! Nothing better than degrading your product and your talent! That’ll get ‘em to consider entering a theatre🤪
#TheFallGuyMovie
is an absolute blast! Gosling and Blunt are perfect together in a meta action comedy that works as a commentary on the current state of movies while also being a celebration of the unsung heroes who make movies work; the stunt men and women and their crews!
THE HOLDOVERS may seem like the film we all think it’s going to be based on the trailer, but it’s much more emotional and humorous than I imagined. While Giamatti and Randolph give stellar performances, Dominic Sessa is the one steals the show. Payne’s best since Sideways!
As someone who did not like MEN at all or the trailers or idea of this movie existing, Alex Garland’s CIVIL WAR is a damn good movie. And yes, it will divide people who see it because that’s the world we live in. More to come soon.
#NoHardFeelings
solidified for me that we need Jennifer Lawrence in more movies ASAP! While the movie overall is fine, she truly carries this thing on her back and gives a fully committed performance. What a movie star!

shaking. This is how people seeing 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY back in 1968 for the first time must have felt. The grandeur of this thing is off the charts. However blown away you think you’re going to be, multiply it by ten.
Also, do you people really want Nolan to make a movie about the Japanese experience before, during, and after the bomb? No you don’t! It’s not the purpose of this film and his story to tell! Good lord, y’all are exhausting!
Just a terrible thing to say about a fantastic movie made by the greatest living director. This movie isn’t the problem with why Netflix is struggling but sure, let’s scapegoat The Irishman.
Netflix will stop green-lighting “expensive vanity projects” such as ‘The Irishman’.
“This tendency to do anything to attract talent and giving them carte blanche is going away,” says one source.

#BeauIsAfraid
is a lot to take in one sitting but I really dug it! Ari Aster’s three hour long anxiety centered epic is all about throwing the kitchen sink at the screen and see whatever deranged, paranoid thing sticks. Phoenix is incredible, LuPone steal the show!
@ScottFeinberg
Oh come on man, it’s a piece of fiction. There has been violence in film for decades. Next thing you are gonna say is that videos games and violent movies cause gun violence,i.e a NRA talking point.
While accepting the Cinematic Imagery Award via Zoom, The Power of the Dog director Jane Campion criticized the recent decisions made by the Academy for not presenting all categories live at the Oscars.

There is life before TÁR and life after TÁR! Hands down my new favorite film of the year. A truly transcendent experience with an all time great performance by Cate Blanchett! It is so nice to have Todd Field back in the film world.
#TellurideFilmFestival
I surprisingly loved BONES AND ALL! Guadagnino’s cannibal love story is tender, heartbreaking and elegantly gory. Taylor Russel and Timotheé Chalamet are a perfect duo, with Mark Rylance giving a wild, villainous performance. Features another wonderful score from Reznor and Ross.
I know this is going to get me a lot of hate, so just be kind when I say this: Spider-Man: No Way Home is not going to be nominated for Best Picture. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk, have a nice day.
"I know it's a lie. But I have to see."
Here is your first look at the new English version of Hayao Miyazaki's THE BOY AND THE HERON. Watch it in theatres starting December 8.
MAY DECEMBER is a movie made just for me. A film that presents complex human issues and doesn’t try to answer everything or take itself too serious. Portman and Moore are incredible as always but my lord, Melton is astonishing here. Upper tier Haynes for me.
Wonderful night at
#AFIFEST
watching Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, another magical film from one of the great storytellers we have today! It is not only the best animated film of the year, it is one of the best films of year! Cinema at its finest and it will melt your heart.
They just don’t make movies like The Lord of the Rings trilogy anymore. Three perfect movies that continue to grow as the greatest cinematic achievement of my lifetime.
(Side note, saw The Return of the King tonight and this scene below breaks me into pieces every time I see it)
Empire of Light is a beautifully grounded romance not just about the love for cinema but the people you connect with once you enter the theater doors. Colman delivers another magnificent performance, but it is Michael Ward who shines the brightest. It will tear your heart out.
Not surprised by the

winners. But one thing is clear, if you think WOMEN TALKING is too cold and won’t be competing for Best Picture, then you are a foul. This film isn’t going anywhere!
#FastX
is the most bombastic, ridiculous entry yet in the franchise. Insane, relentless action blends well with a fantastic villainous Jason Mamoa, who steals the movie. If this is the beginning of the end of the franchise for Dom and his family, what a hell of a way to start.
After a couple of long days at

, MONKEY MAN is the first great film of the fest. With tons of top notch action sequences and plenty of heart, director/writer/star Dev Patel delivered something truly special! An absolute knockout of a directorial debut!
#MonkeyMan
With his second directorial effort, Bradley Cooper has conducted a tender, elegant romance that left me speechless. The level of technical craft is perfectly matched with two outstanding performances from Cooper and Carey Mulligan. Had me in tears throughout. LOVED IT!
Did a fun home project today and now I have space for all my Criterions, 4Ks and Blu rays! (Not pictured are the two 400 sleeved cases of Blu-rays/DVDs).

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is the ultimate meta comedy, filled with endless jokes and countless references to the great Nicolas Cage’s career. Cage and Pedro Pascal make one hell of a duo. Best of the festival so far!

So this happened today and I still can’t believe it. Still shocked by this news (even after Erik called and told me). Thank you Erik for this amazing opportunity. Couldn’t be more happier to take this next big step at AW and be a part of this team for a long, long time!
I'm very happy to announce that staff writer Ryan McQuade has been promoted to Executive Editor of AwardsWatch. His passion, drive, talent and energy earned him this spot and I'm honored to have him in such a vital role for the site.
If you are someone who is going to complain about Oppenheimer winning awards then you might want to buckle in. Also, they aren’t boring wins, they are well deserved!
When I see a lot of people complaining about the runtime Killers of the Flower Moon, a movie they haven’t seen, saying “get it under 3 hours,” it makes me wonder if you should be allowed to see it at all.
Maybe it’s just me but I don’t understand why everyone wants the “actor playing a musician” performance or “actor who put on a ton of weight” performance to win Best Actor (both of which we’ve seen done to death) when this tremendous performance exists. Baffling!
Of all the performances this year, this phenomenal work continues to stay fresh in my mind as one of the best performances of the year. Charles Melton is miraculous in May December, holding his own opposite two of the best actresses on the planet. A star making performance!
I’ve seen

multiple times now and I’m firmly convinced that Mulligan and Cooper deliver not only two of the best performances of the year, but the best performances of their career. I’m in awe of the elegant, transcendent piece of cinema that Cooper has created.
JOYRIDE is a laugh out loud, raunchy, joke a minute comedy with an insanely talented ensemble! I can’t wait for everyone to see it, it’s going to be a blast for everyone who sees it later this summer! Another perfect festival experience at

is the exact kind of entertaining action rom-com we have been missing. While it doesn’t reinvent the wheel, Bullock and Tatum have strong enough chemistry to make this one memorable. And yes, Brad Pitt steals the show!

#EverythingEverywhereAllAtOnce
is the kind of wild, chaotic, ambitious film you would expect from the minds of the Daniels. The film’s key lies in the tender family story that levels out the jaw-dropping action. Michelle Yeoh has never been better! Great way to kick off
#SXSW2022
Blanchett gives the best performance of 2022 by anyone and I’m glad she is winning these awards! We don’t need to take her down when you want someone else to win. She’s a very deserving winner!
A reminder that Cate Blanchett winning anything this awards season is not “boring” or “predictable” or “undeserved.” She is extraordinary in Tár, and this is another awesome victory!
#Immaculate
is a slow, terrifying burn that transforms into a hell of a time! It’s gory and unhinged in all the right ways. That ending will have a lot of people talking FOR SURE.

The Beach Bum: A weed fueled spectacle that is full of laughs, love, drugs and the passion to just enjoy life. Korine has made the ultimate stoner comedy of the 21st century and gives McConaughey a role he was born to play.

day and all I ask is that you see it. Either on the big screen or at home. And be kind when talking about it. No need for hyperbolic takes saying it’s the worst thing ever or people attack others for not liking it. Just experience it and play nice.

THE IRON CLAW was everything I knew it would be, which is a beautiful, heartbreaking story about a family curse that tragically destroyed them. Efron, Allen White, Tierney and McCallany give fantastic performances. Goes a little long but still packs an emotional punch.
I can’t wait for you all to see this movie! One of my favorites from last year and still one of my favorites this year. All three of these performances from Lyonne, Olsen, and Coon are fantastic!
Natasha Lyonne, Elizabeth Olsen, and Carrie Coon star in His Three Daughters — from writer-director Azazel Jacobs. In select theaters September 6 and on Netflix September 20.

and this is the movie I’ve been waiting to see my entire life. A personal love letter to the heart and soul of my Latinx culture. Not only the first truly great film of the decade, but a movie musical to define a generation. This movie is special!
