I represented a man who did 10 years for a crime he didn't commit.
While he was incarcerated, he would see commercials for Sandals. He dreamed of going there. But it all seemed impossible.
Today, he texted me pictures of him playing tennis at a Sandals resort.
I have the
Habba attacking the judge: But I was told to sit down today. I was yelled at and I've had a judge who is unhinged slamming a table. I don’t tolerate that in my life, I’m not going to tolerate it here
Our firm is about to commit to covering therapy sessions for everyone on our team. I can't tell you how happy this makes me.
Hey law firms, normalize this...
I try very hard not to send anyone an email on a weekend. I'm a huge fan of scheduling sends for Monday mornings.
Today, I looked at the calendar and realized Monday is Yom Kippur, and I scheduled my send to a Jewish colleague for Tuesday morning.
It costs nothing to respect
True story: A person that I went to high school with posted that he finally got his first shot. He said "the Monkees are playing and the venue requires proof of vaccine." 🤷♂️

I can't imagine seeing everything through a partisan lens. This is why we have juries and constitutional rights while imperfect for sure are the best alternative of many.
I get the uproar about a lawyer submitting fake cases using ChatGPT. That lawyer should be suspended.
The thing I would really like to see an uproar about is lawyers who make up what real cases stand for. In my market, the largest firms do this the most.
They get away with it
We just hired for an open position for which we pay a fair wage and offer 100% payment on health insurance, disability insurance, and contribute to a 401k with paid time off.
We had a 125 applicants in 4 days.
We have 3 law students with us in various roles - 2 will start this summer and one is a current law clerk - we sent them all Starbucks gift cards to push through finals.
I will never stop trying to build a law firm that cares about its people.
This reminds me of the last day I was an associate. The partner knew I was leaving to open my own firm. I had given 6 weeks notice.
As I was packing up for good at 5:30 he came in to give me an “urgent” assignment. And then turned red when I refused. 🤷🏻♂️

Took a tour of Oracle Park.
The guide said the home dugout is on the third base side because Dusty Baker wanted it there.
The reasoning - if a player didn’t hustle to first it gave the fans a chance to boo on the way back..
@BookJailer
Pandering to them and her client. I have to tell you, I've read decisions where lawyers have been suspended for less.
Make your objections. Put them in the record. And if you disagree with a trial judge there's a remedy - an appeal. Do that.
The best thing
#lawschools
could do for wellness isn't meditation it's not crippling students with debt and teaching them how to earn money as
#lawyers
.
All the meditation and yoga in the world won't fix the stress of being unable to pay rent.

My dog Brady died today. She was a great dog. We are very sad. And we are grateful that we got that we got to have her as our dog.
I would love nothing more than if you would reply with a picture of your pet. Give them a hot dog for Brady tonight. Brady loved hot dogs.
Connecticut is all - black lives matter but your special permit application for dense development with affordable housing will ruin our town's rural character.
CT will never change until we change our land use laws.
@JPChrisWMLA
I do not. I have found that clients care about us doing great work, getting results, and constantly communicating. I can't imagine emailing a client off hours.
They really don't care about when we work.
I've never seen a group of people more excited for anything than
#boocrew
is for Cody Rigsby on Dancing With The Stars.

If one can put money on things - he is safe money.
“Among the general population, an average of 4.3 percent of American adults have contemplated suicide….
An estimated 8.5 percent of lawyers have contemplated suicide.”
We must do better.
I hire lawyers. If you didn't get the bar exam results you hoped for - hang in there. Here's what I care about and what I don't.
The list may or may not surprise you. You are more than a damn test.

Woke up, logged into LinkedIn, and read a post from a lawyer who is deeply offended by people who use the phrase “recovering lawyer”.
What has to go wrong in someone’s life to be offended by the words others use to describe their story?
My son's 10 year old friend died of brain cancer on Wednesday. She was so full of life. It's hard to accept she will never be at the bus stop again.
Fuck cancer.
My grandfather died yesterday. He was 94.
Lived a full life. Served in WW2. Went on to manage malls across the country and was brought to CT from Nebraska via Denver and StL.
He enjoyed wood working, rocks, and generally being serving on boards and doing community service.
Just went through my first aborted take off. We start going down the runway and there’s a loud pop. Plane starts shaking. Pilot brakes and gets us off the runway safely.
So grateful for the pilot.
It’s weird because in law school there was a track to the best firms.
Almost 20 years into this I can tell you those are the firms that defend corporations who cause societal harm, defend sex abuse rings, and companies that trade in death.
All for the money.
First weekend in a while where I didn’t have a frivolous motion from Amazon to oppose about its right to keep selling suicide products to American families. And I’m bored af.
The only thing that surprises me about this slide is that lawyers who work from home have to buy their own monitors and docking stations.
As someone who runs a firm this never entered my mind as a thing to do.
Is this normal?

These are the same people who believed Super Delegates rigged the nomination despite the math that proved she would have won without a single super delegate
Today the sun sets at 5pm in Hartford. The next time the sun sets before 5pm in Hartford in November 6, 2022.
That is 282 days from now.
Happy Friday, friends.
High levels of law school debt grease the wheels of injustice.
Some day I will be able to tell the story or what one of the largest companies and their lawyers tried to do to our client who they paralyzed in an effort to save $5.
The injury was just the beginning.
@ryanmckeen
The biggest scam in law is how schools manufacture the desirability of those horrible jobs. There’s no reason it should be prestigious or competitive to defend big oil, big tech or big pharma.
@KenTremendous
I was listening to some of his unprepared remarks today and thinking: it’s like we elected an evil Michael Scott. Without any of Michael Scott’s redeeming qualities or good intentions.
@JustInChirps
I watched this thing and couldn’t help but think they were making an honest video with the intent of it being funny.
I also think if this were a bunch of guys no one would care. There’s a gender element to criticizing this.
Started a podcast where I talk with law students. I know that a healthier profession begins with law school.
And I want to contribute to that dialogue.
@RileeDHarrison
The twitter algo has sometimes fed me someone so much that I assumed that I followed them. Only to click on their profile and learn that I didn't.
I’m thrilled to announce that I’m joining the team

as a coach and resource for lawyers looking to build their practices.

wrote this in the foreword to Tiger Tactics. It’s in many ways, my life’s mission.

I don’t want to jinx it but I’m starting to feel better.
I’ve not felt well since Tuesday. The symptoms have waxed and waned.
🤞 a corner has been turned.
Someday we will tell the full story on this.
It is our generation’s Ford Pinto case.
I will speak the truth. No holds barred. And call out each and every one of the corporate ghouls who did this to a wonderful family.
When I took the leap 7 years ago to give up my paycheck and try and make a go of it my dreams consisted pretty much solely of surviving.
To be the 15th fastest growing firm in the US is straight up nuts to me. We’re just getting started.
Did my Sunday morning reading and came across “depositioned” in the Washington Post.
In 16 years as a lawyer, I’ve never heard that word. Always “deposed”.
I’m choosing to be curious instead of judgmental.
Do
#lawtwitter
peeps use “depositioned”?
Had coffee with a younger lawyer today.
All I can say is the future of the legal profession is bright.
The kids are more than alright. They are amazing.
Last night felt like Christmas Eve when I was a kid.
Today is vaccine day.
Thank you to all who made this possible. One of the great achievements in human history.
Today, we rested in a case that we have worked 5 years on. It is the greatest honor of my career to work on this case for this client.
Tomorrow, the jury gets the case. Our work is done.
