I think this actually gives more credit to theatre marketing firms than they deserve. Just like some of y’all think that PR firms purposely leak things to get more attention, it’s just not true. Hiring influencers to do artificial grassroots is genius but nobody would do it.

This is so real. Being on the producing team for a big off broadway *original* musical, the one thing that was said/heard the most was “well the audience has never heard of this property before so…”

The other issue is that Broadway gatekeepers are VERY reticent to open the doors to anything without title equity. So instead we get badly-executed movie adaptations and “How X became a pop star” bio-musicals. If ticket buyers don’t start supporting new work, it won’t transfer.
