Initially there was International Law granting sovereignty to states. Then Holocaust occurred. It was clear that sovereignty had to be limited. States could not be trusted with unlimited power. Human Rights Law was embraced & Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted.

1/Since taking oath of office on 10 Dec 03, I must say very little has changed. I have grey hair now, & at long last the road to Maximum was resurfaced. ZPCS has changed the colour of uniforms for inmates.BUT their attitude towards human rights lawyers has not changed at all.
