The Catholic Church is more biblical than the Bible churches, more evangelical than the Lutheran church, more episcopal than the Episcopalians, more priestly (presbyterian) than the Presbyterians, more orthodox than the Orthodox. It has a higher view of baptism than the Baptists.
Very sad day for the diocese of Austin. The Vatican has taken away our traditional Latin Mass at the Cathedral. Nearly a thousand disappointed parishioners, and a vital, dynamic ministry of the Church devastated.
My father, Bruce Koons, passed away this morning. He had a quiet, peaceful death, and his Christian faith was strong. He was the best father I could imagine, and he always provided a beautiful example to follow.
Apparently, atheists are especially scandalized by the idea that intelligent, well-educated Christians might believe in demons. A little surprising, since that has been an integral part of Christianity (and Judaism and Islam) for thousands of years. Read the Gospels!
If all religions are equally good paths to God, why do we still memorialize martyrs (like Sts. Cornelius and Cyprian)? Weren’t they foolish to sacrifice their lives for a mere verbal difference?
A fetus is not potentially alive—it is actually alive, and actually a human being. A fetus is potentially self-conscious, with a potential for a self-concept but actually a persin, like you or me
Leftists get really upset when one points out that Socrates was a conservative. Socrates was executed precisely for questioning the pretensions of the “experts” (fact checkers) of his day.
Saddened by the news that we have lost Robert M. Adams. He was a favorite teacher of mine in graduate school at UCLA. I remember fondly the Sunday Bible studies he and Marilyn held in their homes. Bob was a giant in philosophy. A profound influence on my own work in many ways.
To disparage a theory simply because it is a "conspiracy theory" is fairly stupid. History is littered with conspiracies, both successful and unsuccessful. Our own Revolution began as a conspiracy, as did the French and Russian revolutions. The Cataline conspiracy, the Dreyfus

Unfortunately, too many prominent pro-life leaders in recent years have been openly contemptuous of President Trump. That necessarily results in a loss of influence.
@PhilosopherJoeC
Those who deny the fundamental reality of consciousness or free will incur the responsibility of explaining their apparent reality. Those who do not bear no such responsibility
1. Systematically exclude theists from university faculties.
2. Argue that theism must be stupid, since no university professor is a theist.
3. Back to 1.
I hope that the engineers building our bridges were “indoctrinated” in the true principles of physics and materials science. All genuine education involves “indoctrination”
A interview giving my preliminary response to the excellent article by Schmid and Malpass, criticizing my Grim-Reaper argument. It's certainly not yet an optimal response, but some may find a few ideas I lay out of some interest:
Pro-choice advocates seriously underestimate the importance of the educational function of the criminal law. When a state outlaws elective abortion, that sends a powerful message to every resident: in this State, we hold abortion to be gravely wrong.

If Aristotle held physics back, why did the revolution in physics happen in Europe one of the few places on Earth saturated with Aristotelian thinking? Apply Mill’s methods!
The right to life (the right not to be intentionally killed while innocent) is the most fundamental of all rights, prior to any right to freedom or autonomy. My right to autonomy derived from my right to exist as a human being
@worldviewdesign
This is a version of the Liar paradox— specifically, the Strengthened Liar. See the “Austinian theory” in Barwise and Etchemendy’s The Liar. Also, my 1993 book.
I thought the glorification of the murder of Marie Antoinette much more disturbing than the Last Supper parody. Killing an innocent young woman and mother for political expediency --this is a corrupt basis for a "Republic".
Good news. My lecture at Cambridge U on “The Demise of Philosophical Materialism” has been reinstated. The Master of St. Catherine’s College decided to override the fellows’ vote. There may be protests, though.
A proud ultra-MAGA Republican. Not a fascist —- the Progressives are the fascists. Mussolini was a great admirer of Woodrow Wilson’s war administration
@AleMartnezR1
How does our intuition (built up from purely this-worldly, natural elements) establish a real connection to these necessary moral facts? Theism has the best explanation of this connection.
@FeserEdward
I was going to suggest that Robert M Adams was 1000x greater as a philosopher than Dennett, but then I realized that 1000x0 is still zero.

Thank goodness there are no programs at UT with "loaded" names. No "Human Rights and Social Justice" concentration, no "Social Justice Informatics", no division of "Equity, Diversity or Inclusion",...
