@DaleVince
Happy to discuss this with you Dale, pretty shocked at your stance here. Heat Pumps work extremely well with correct application - key things to address is the radiator sizing for the room and home they are in, to choose the correct type and size, and set them up properly. They

I don’t understand why we aren’t adopting rainwater harvesting and grey water reuse in homes. The tech has existed for a decade or more. Gaining adoption in USA particularly. Could easily be mandated for new builds. Retrofit is possible. Using drinking water to flush toilets is

Lack of road maintenance causes potholes. Water gets in, freezes. Surface breaks up.
Absolutely no relation to the type of car. Trucks tend to cause more wear and tear than passenger cars. But thats the point - if roads are well made and maintained then no potholes.

Thanks for reading and dissecting it so I don’t have to. I am sick of fossil fuel trolls claiming heat pumps don’t work and are more expensive to use.
@RealDeniseWelch
Totally agree. And I have been a huge fan of Clarkson. But the toxic misogynistic behaviour is no longer tolerated. And that’s why they have lost their shows.
@TheFreds
They really are laughing in our faces aren’t they. Meanwhile we’re not ‘allowed’ to travel to other countries and have to self quarantine for 10 days. This really is a graphic illustration of the hypocrisy.
Big step today - British Gas came and removed our Gas Meter! So no more standing charge. It was a pretty straightforward and free thing to get done. There is still a gas supply but it's not usable. If we want to get the supply removed totally that's a transco job and £1000.
@emilyhewertson
You didn’t need to say that. Ladies and Gentlemen understand the mutual respect. Anyone taking offence at this sort of chivalry is the one with the issue.
So a week in - what is it like to live with an electric car? Well actually better than a combustion engines# car in most respects. Charging has been easy apart from a failed charge at a garden centre. It’s cheap to charge up and a delight to drive. Quicker away from standstill!
Heat Pumps are being rolled out in place of combustion boilers because they have zero carbon emissions at point of use, also no particulate and nox emissions. They also use much less electricity than direct electric heating.
That’s all I wanted to explain.
@grantshapps
Why are you telling us? What do you expect us to do about it?
It is YOUR JOB to address these issues.
So what exactly are you going to do in response?
Today’s the day. Goodbye gas. 🔥
@CadentGasLtd
the saga concludes after nearly three years… it really shouldn’t be this complicated to get off our fossil fuel habit without cost to the consumer.
@johnredwood
Smarts meters are key to enabling grid flexibility as electrification of heat and transport rolls out. They will enable half hour tariffs and lower bills for customers. That you don’t understand this as an MP is a sad situation.

@juneslater17
Whether a heat pump works has absolutely nothing to do with the building. It has everything to do with the heating system and what power is needed to match the heat loss overall and per room. The heat pump has no knowledge of whether it is heating a barn or a flat.
Just been on a call with

where people with heat pumps are doing open days at their homes to show and tell. Great idea! Happy to do this with my system. I have a heat pump that was installed on the beis electrification of heat scheme so happy to give back in this way.
I loving reading all the posts about heat pumps talking about them as if they are experimental tech only just come out! Folks - these appliances have been installed for decades in Europe and Nordics. It’s just that they aren’t well known here - yet!

Staying in a 300 year old off grid rental cottage in County Durham that is heated by an air source heat pump. It’s a Mitsubishi Eco dan 14kw. PV as well. Replaced an oil boiler. Halved energy bills. Totally comfortable. No problems. No ridiculous sized rads.

A lightweight multiple unit is a very different thing to a top link express or heavy haul freight. Why be so keen on pushing batteries when overhead wires are proven and already widespread?
So my heatpump and smart cylinder retrofit is now complete and performing brilliantly. It has been a tricky installation and now I see why these retrofits are so time consuming and costly. You have to be tolerant of disruption!

Excited to report that I’ll soon be getting a heat pump installed in place of a condensing gas system boiler. The works scheduled to happen in January. Look forward to sharing experience of the conversion process and how the system compares to a boiler for comfort and fuel cost.

The incumbent government’s indecision and backsliding on the net zero manifesto pledges have lost years of potential action and created uncertainty amongst investors and consumers. Total mismanagement of the biggest threat to national security.
@bobbyllew
The comments are >facepalm< aren’t they. I see a perception that people feel that evs are being forced on them and their ice cars will be taken from them. Brits don’t like that. This perception is obviously flawed and there is no such policy. For those who prefer an ice then they

I can’t imagine this is an expensive show to create so on the surface it seems like a strange move. Surely we should spend much more on nature education in a climate emergency situation!
@TiceRichard

You don’t understand what net zero means. The energy prices are set by the wholesale price of gas, not renewables. So the bills are high because of fossil fuels and that has been driven by the conflict in Ukraine and threat of restrictions on supply of gas. Which is fossil fuel.

Swapping some radiators out for double panel convectors isn’t ‘ripping homes to bits’ and the heat pump simply connects to the existing boiler primary pipes and lives outside. May need to add a cylinder or heat battery for stored hot water. Not a big deal either.
@theJeremyVine
Don’t be the meat in a HGV Sandwich. Keep aware. I usually find that being one of the fastest vehicles on the road and doing the overtaking helps keep out of trouble. The queues off motorway to skip road are a big hazard. Have taken to hard shoulder in past to avoid being hit.

smart hot water cylinder. Fits (just) in the airing cupboard and works brilliantly. If you need a smart hot water storage tank to work with your heat pump or zero emission boiler these are worth investigating.
