Shocking news: the Scottish Government is breaking its promise on arts funding.
In February, thousands joined our campaign to speak out against a £6.6 million cut to Creative Scotland.
It worked. Ministers abandoned the cut.
But now they're bringing it back.
Having led on 2020’s revitalised, digital version of Class Act, Wezi Mhura and
@robbiedgordon
have been appointed as Creative Development Producers. Together they will continue to evolve and deliver Class Act, as well as developing other projects and initiatives.

Scottish-based actor musicians! I would love to hear from you for an upcoming project. Please drop me your spotlights or a wee DM.
Also, please RT if you know people who might fit the brief.

Can’t believe I’ve not tweeted about this yet but I’m a week into my new job as Creative Learning Coordinator at the
@AyrGaiety
and I pure love it! It’s been a buzz to join the team and work in such a lovely building. Exciting times ahead!
Been working down at the
@AyrGaiety
for a few years now and I really want to expand networks of creatives (in the broadest sense) who are from or have a connection to Ayrshire. There's nothing concrete on the horizon but I just want to meet some new people! Drop me a wee line!
I actually cannae believe this is a hing. Absolute dream team of people to be working with. All stemmed from wanting to get plays specifically written for now out to young people to perform in a time when the buildings they usually go to are shut.
POSITIVE STORIES FOR NEGATIVE TIMES by Robbie Gordon & Jack Nurse, Stef Smith, Sabrina Mahfouz, Bea Webster and Chris Thorpe

A national project featuring some of the UK’s most exciting voices in playwriting. For those aged 8-25. (13/19)
All started with a wee story that my Grandad told me about four panners who went to fight in the Spanish Civil War. I went to tell
@jackfnurse
straight away in our uni halls and here we are now. Who's coming?
🧳 549: Scots of the Spanish Civil War tours 23 Sep - 5 Nov 2022.

Ant & Dec are a British TV presenting duo consisting of Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly from Newcastle. Formed after their meeting as child actors on CBBC's Byker Grove, they performed together as pop musicians PJ & Duncan, the names of their characters from the series.
I'm working on Class Act again, and a young person has written a female character of Scottish Nigerian heritage.
I would love to find an authentic representation for this young person's script. DM me or send me an email if this might be you.

Can't believe it's the final week of
@wonder_fools
549. It's been really special to be back on stages again, especially after a time I thought I might never again. To be touring a show about Prestonpans (and the Labour Club) around Scotland is quite the unique buzz.
I would really love to get to know some new facilitators out there working in communities and with young people! Interested in all art forms, I have nothing concrete but would love to expand my network. If you're one of these people drop me a wee comment or a DM.
Pure joy.
One of the biggest chunks of my life (workwise)
The reason I do what I do is youth theatre and it is thanks to the awesome festival NFYT
@YTArtsScot
I met some of my best pals and collaborators.
What a privilege it has been to run our own at our favourite venues.
That’s a wrap of our Positive Stories Festival. 😮💨
What an incredible 4 weeks it has been; check out these stats during our time at the four festival hubs. 🙏
We have a big post coming soon, stay tuned! ♥️

Would love to expand my pool of writers/makers who love working with young people and communities. It's not for anything in particular right now but hopefully, have things coming up soon. Drop me a wee DM or post a link below.
Looking to get a wee list of actors together who are living with other actors for a wee thing I'm pulling together! Any thoughts and suggestions would be absolutely brilliant.
Think last night was one of my favourite shows I've ever worked on. The joy was really something else. Had sore cheeks from smiling and even had a wee cry (a good cry). The Youth Board are heroes and the team were all lovely AF. Thanks
@BryonyKimmings
for the process!

A wee candid photo from
@traversetheatre
Class Act: Aberdeen with some of the actors talking about the experience of being involved in the process and what it's like to read the young people's brilliant.
The project is 31 years young, and it feels more important now than ever.
Safe to say that I’m absolutely delighted that the
@AyrGaiety
has got this backing to continue building community-led and creative engagement projects in South Ayrshire with the communities who need it most.
Rocked up to Edinburgh airport to realise I was actually supposed to be flying from Glasgow. On the train down now and having a wee cry. Nothing to do with the situation but because Uncle Pastuso has died in the first five minutes of Paddington. Poor wee bear man. Too much.
It has been an absolute joy to work with the
@streetsoccerSCO
team with
@jackfnurse
up at the Change Centre on this show.
We hope you have as much fun as we did making it with the team and
@traversetheatre
.
Have to pinch myself a wee bit that this is happening.

It’s been a real privilege to be part of this team over the last 4/5 years. Joined at a time I was on the fence about keeping going and it’s safe to say I wouldn’t be doing what I’m up to now if it wasn’t for
@ejeremywyatt
and the
@AyrGaiety
. ✊❤️
Does anyone know any young women or non-binary actors who can play the drums? Preferably Scottish, but all good if not!
Needs to get away with playing a teenager!
Please give this a share ✊❤️
Looking for a couple of actors!
Playing age (50 - 70) one female and one male for a wee shoot on Tuesday next week. Paid.
It's for a couple of small parts in a film that has been written by a school kid that we're using a professional team to bring to life.
To all those receiving exam results tomorrow. Don’t worry. And don’t let them define you. Life doesn’t end after sixth year. You’ve got proper time to do what you want to do. I went and worked in a pub after school and bloody loved it. Life isnae a race. Take yer time!

Who's all coming to Class Act this year?
As always, the plays are absolutely brilliant, with some of the best work yet from the young people of Edinburgh.
The cast is an absolute BUZZ as well.
Expect costumes, house-band, off-book, and 80 minutes of high-octane theatre. ✊❤️
Back down at the

When you miss the Belgian experimental theatre piece you're going to see because of a late train, and your mate turns to you and says "I've never been to Edinburgh Dungeons".
Yesterday, was my last day at

I will always feel so lucky to have had the chance to work and play in that incredible space with the most brilliant people💚
Thanks to everyone who made my time at the Trav so amazing
Workshops leaders, teachers and participants!
We're all heading back to the room either this week or in the next couple.
And I just wanted to start a wee feed on our favourite games and exercises!
What a joy this project is on multiple levels...
With the impact that it has on the young people, teachers and artists being top of the list.
But beyond that it's such a fun show that you should all come and see brought to life by a quality cast and amazing creative team.
The poster is up, which only means one thing... this year's

This is utterly huge and confirms most of our worst fears. Often in my freelance career, I've literally not been able to afford the dentist let alone pay for major treatment. Look at the state of the US healthcare system, do you want to live in it?
Buzzing to work with

Introducing the cast of the Edinburgh Class Act Showcase, 2023! Taking to the stage next week, these wonderful actors will bring to life the words & stories written by the young people of Edinburgh 👏
🎟️ Come and see them in action:
It was a real honour to welcome the new cohort of
@traversetheatre
Young Writers alongside Douglas Maxwell last night! Great to see some familiar faces from previous projects and a whole host of artists I've never met before.
Wanted to know what's been happening in all the Marvel films because I checked out quite a while back, so did a bit of reading up and watched some videos. Pure shattered now. It was like studying for a higher.
The Positive Stories Youth Board came together tonight for the first time since they met a year ago! And it was such an incredible buzz. The room was full of such talent and joy. Come and see what we've made at the
@traversetheatre
this Friday!

That handsome chap on the far left is my Grandad Patrick O’Brien. A total legend. Who first told me the story of George Watter and the 549. All the love in the world “gruhnda”.
Any young female or non-binary Scottish actors out there that speak Italian by any chance?
A young person has written a piece for Class Act with a young Italian character in it, and it would be awesome to find someone to read it for her that has the right casting.
Folks that teach or work with young people...
Now is the time to persuade them to vote. Make sure they register and if they can't make it back home for the ballot boxes give them the information they need on postal votes.
One year since I was part of this incredible project with
@NTSonline
,
@AyrGaiety
and
@1418NOW
. It was an amazing opportunity for the community to reflect and remember in a creative and democratic space. Easily one of the most incredible things I've ever worked on.
#PagesoftheSea
I'm delighted beyond belief that this project is back for a third season with one of my fave lineups yet. The project is led by young people and is free to participate in.
If you see this, give it a wee share!
It might mean a young person gets to perform at an awesome theatre.
🧐Here’s a small breakdown of the two pathways you can take this season. For more info visit
‼️Remember, you have until the 17th Feb to sign-up for your interest in the Positive Stories Festivals or 26th May for the entire project.

and
@ChloeAnnTylor
on this. They're a total dream team.
Also, a special shout to working with Chlo again as we met

Youth Theatre when we were 13/14 and still kicking about. The power of youth theatre, eh?
@YTArtsScot
!
The last few weeks have been wild getting Svengali ready for the fringe. So much shared and learned and gained with
@EveNicol
&
@robbiedgordon
. A stripped back, raw imagining is this piece, completely exposing and very thrilling to perform. This monster needs to be seen.
Let them fucking go if they don't want to contribute to society. No one deserves to be that disproportionately wealthy, especially when the average UK salary is around £28000. If you have a billion pounds you are an actual dragon and a welt.
🚨 OPPORTUNITY 🚨
Wonder Fools are looking for a creative and talented Marketing and Communications Coordinator to join our team.
Deadline: for applications is midnight Sunday 18 April
If culture is such an integral part of our national identity and a massive contributor to our economy we need to resource it effectively or we risk losing incredible established artists and the exciting new voices to other industries.
Very special to return to the
@AyrGaiety
. Truly one of the best theatres in Scotland. Making huge impact in the community and run by the community.
Also great to see actors in the ensemble from Ayrshire on stage inspiring the young people with their massive performances ✊❤️
Really privileged to have been a part of two of these projects. Especially hearing and telling the human stories that sit in the heart of it all. Using art to have these big conversations about remembrance in public spaces was my favourite part about being involved.
As we prepare to mark
#RemembranceDay
, we are reflecting on our work with 14-18NOW.
These powerful projects told stories of lives irreversibly changed by war and conflict.
Thank you to everyone who joined us to remember.
