Well in excess of 1,000 wrestling matches were held this weekend at the @MSHSL State Wrestling Tournament at the @XcelEnergyCtr . A winner in each and every match. That means well over 1,000 hands were raised. They all paled in comparison to the sight of this hand being raised.

This is Peter Schommer, a Sr. from Pierz, Mn. A 4-year starter on the BB team, never missed a game, playing in 109! He was within 8 points of becoming the school’s All-Time scoring leader, a record that has stood for 45 years. His career ended today without a chance to break it.

From 9-Man to AAAAAA, there are 309 HS FB teams in Minnesota. Only 4 are sporting a 7-0 record. 2 of them clash in Sauk Centre tonight as the @pierzpioneers face the @AHSFootballTeam Huskies in 6AAA. The other 2 are Minneota and Lakeville South. That means 1.2944983% went 7-0.

I’m in Austin, Mn for the induction of Mark Jensen of the @pierzpioneers into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame! Mark served as Head Coach for 21 years qualified 162 Individuals to State with 9 Champions. Mark coached 14 teams to State, including State Titles in 2004 & 2005.

@MSHSLjohn The @pierzpioneers Boys Basketball team was supposed to play for the 7AA Title Friday night & a program-first ever trip to State. Instead, they gathered one last time as a team in a parents home for video games, pizza & a visit from an old man.

My favorite VB tidbit from John's Journal and @MSHSLjohn ...Mayer Lutheran is 31-2, playing for the Class A Title. Their only two losses are to Maple Lake and Eagan, who just happen to be playing for Class AA and Class AAA Championships!

Its the end of an incredible 2017 calendar year for the @pierzpioneers ! They wrestled for the Class A State Title at Excel Energy Center, played in the Class AA Baseball Championship game at Target Field & today play in the Class AAA Prep Bowl at US Bank Stadium. @prep45sports
