I’ve lost count of the times I’ve been openly mocked and laughed at in theatre by seniors and colleagues because I have two wear two scrub caps to cover my braids (I’ve not worked in a trust where I’ve been able to find a cap that fits). Let’s maybe stop doing that.
This whole “GPs to cover striking ambulance workers” thing is so random. Why GPs and not any other specialty? I’m sure the microbiologists could do with some fresh air.
As a med student I’m often spoken to like I’m pond scum before I’ve had a chance to open my mouth.
Sometimes people backtrack when I mention I’m a dentist (often it gets worse). Why should I have to mention it at all? Let’s just talk to each other like human beings 💆🏽♀️
Having a dental degree while at med school is so helpful, because it means I get to skip all the sections in my medical textbooks about oral disease
So, I skipped half a page
About to fail a placement because the consultant won't allow me to complete a mandatory assignment with them as they're too busy. I'm not blaming them; we just need to be realistic about the extra time needed for doctors to provide adequate 'on-the-job' teaching for students.
In another nail in the coffin to my faith in postgraduate training, my application for the SFP has been rejected on the basis that my publications were listed with DOIs instead of PubMed IDs. I wouldn’t be so cross if it wasn’t for their OWN FORM asking for a DOI as suitable ID
For our wedding we are hiring a gelato trolley and as part of that we can choose a custom flavour
As doctors, it was milliseconds before one of us suggested this:
My auntie, an anaesthetist, died by suicide at the hands of the NHS. That was in the late 80s, it feels like we still haven’t learnt our lesson.
#vaishkumar
If you’re the third year med student shadowing my fiancé on acute med today please give him five minutes so I can pester him to read my trivial texts and look at the memes I sent him it’s important
As an SHO I was once bleeped repeatedly to go and cannulate a patient only to then have the nurse in question tell me she didn’t want me to do it wrong so did it herself in front of me with the kit I got ready
Still not sure if it was a dick move or just a magnificent power play
It's more harmful for your teeth when you graze or pick at sweets or snacks which is why I make sure I have the whole pack of Hob Nobs in one go.
I'm pretty sure I'm not the only dentist with this logic either
The doctors performing a c-section are paid a total of £50 between them*.
With F1 doctors being paid £14 an hour, and ST8 doctors being paid £28 an hour, we want to hear what you get paid for completing life-saving/improving tasks.
*based on the average time taken.
A doctor who was openly tweeting about being at their breaking point and medtwitter thought it fit to push them further into it for the sake of an off-hand comment made in a crisis. What a horrible thing to do to another human being. We focussed on the wrong thing here.
I’m sorry about what I said about homelessness. I feel really terrible and I wasn’t in the right frame of mind. I start weekly therapy sessions from Wednesday so I’m going to go offline for a few weeks/months until I’m a bit better. I feel so awful about what I said.
Medical staffing teams make note: it’s not an “unexplained employment gap” when the candidate is in full-time education
I’m really sick of explaining this 🙈
Just received my second student loan payment (out of three) for the academic year, it was ~£800 and thus £200 *less* than my monthly rent.
Tell me again how grad medics don’t need generational wealth to survive?
My Aunt’s death was preventable. She sought medical attention 3 times before she died suddenly.
The remaining faith I had in my profession is dwindling. I yearn so deeply for Black women to be listened to, and cared for properly by the NHS.
I posted my monthly salary on TT a while ago and had to delete the video for the sheer number of people just outright calling me a liar or telling me I was mistaken and that was my weekly pay (it was not).
Doctor pay scales are *just that unbelievable*
Med school Sunday Scaries are a real thing 😬
Sometimes I wish I could get my Mum to drop me off at the gates with a packed lunch and a twix but instead I have to drive my stupid car like a grown up and talk about statins.
Politely asked for directions from two fellow staff members at the hospital yesterday and I was met with hostility and sarcasm; why are we happy to be so openly rude to one another in the

?
Me suturing up an axe wound to the face at work: Calm. In total control of the mind, body, and spirit. Nothing can phase me. Sewing like it’s going to be on the front cover of vogue. Boss bitch. You’ve never seen such poise and grace.
Me on placement: *forgets the word “thumb”*
In my first ever placement of med school a consultant mocked me and a colleague on the ward round for performing an abdominal examination badly, a skill we had neither been taught nor observed.
Experiences like this can be completely derailing - we should be doing better
If i don’t answer a bleep within 5 minutes it’s because I’m doing an important task.
If you’re finding yourself needing to bleep me more than twice in 5 minutes ask yourself, “if this is such an emergency, do I really want someone who’s registration number starts with ‘GDC’”?!
I was med student on day unit oncology today. The nurses were absolutely lovely but just far far too stretched to take on a med student (they still did though!) absolutely baffles me how gov think we can stuff more med students in to an already overstuffed teaching calzone.
I’m Rachael, I’m a dental surgeon and a med student, and I’m thirty years old. And today I made a very grown up decision at the shop when I left my toothbrush at home.
I chose to leave dental practice because of the b*llocks NHS dental system. Other dentists have chosen to relinquish their NHS contracts.
This is what happens when you enact the “if you don’t like it, leave” mentality that so many think is the answer to strike action
I don’t blame people for not believing doctors’ pay, even other healthcare professionals. £14/hr for a qualified doctor is *quite literally* unbelievable.
Lean in to that shock and horror and keep that momentum to support your doctor colleagues when they strike hard! ✊🏽💙
I’ve never understood why Prof. Slughorn found the fact Hermione’s parents were dentists so amusing. Do wizards not have dental disease? They have a hospital, do they not also have dental injuries? Seems like Quidditch is rife for potential crown-root fractures.
I really feel that the “you knew what you were getting into when you signed up”, anti-strike crowd are simply trying to absolve themselves of any guilt relating to NHS working conditions.
It does not benefit them to consider NHS workers as being human.

£9 for the public is a complete rip off, regardless of staff discount. I do appreciate the gesture but the point I was making was this is appalling quality for the RRP.
Maybe what I'm really cross about is not getting the credit for that one case report I wrote about a patient who made a medical device from a milk bottle.
@KatPaton13
You’re right. I did a tiktok a while ago about how rubbish junior doctor pay was and people told me that “no one is paid at university”. They fully think junior doctors are medical students.
Today marked the end of an era as the calculator that saw me through GCSEs, A-levels, dental school, postgraduate exams, and medical school has given up the ghost at the final hurdle, the day of my last written final.
God speed.
The plan tonight is to eat my dirty takeaway and drink my wine and be in bed before my fiancé gets back from his on-call and realises I am just a small feral rat
Last night we taught a group of Black preclinical med students at
@imperialcollege
to suture, as total beginners.
They started with 2-0 silk on a pad and by the end of the 2hrs were closing delicate lip wounds with 5-0 ethilon. We were SO proud!!

Haem on-call drs are my favourite specialty to ring. They are always just so charming even if I do have to get them to spell out the exact words they just said.
Remembering that time I was called to review an OPG by two ED SHOs only to point out the hyoid bone is in fact normal anatomy and them still wanting a second opinion on that from their consultant.
“A few years” 😭
If I ever make consultant it’ll be after 9 years full-time at uni and 12 years total of postgraduate training, and that’s if I don’t take any breaks or give birth
NHS consultants (a few years after being junior doctors) earn a basic salary between £88,000 and £119,000…But they are putting innocent lives at risks because of greed and socialist ideology of the BMA
What’s upsetting is her contemporaries at the time are now today’s consultants and directors. It’s time we ended this “It happened to me so it’ll happen to you” bullsh*t
When patients complain of tonsillitis pain I sympathise deeply because when I had it i was so desperate I gave myself a local anaesthetic infiltration into one of my tonsils
It didn’t work, and then I had a haematoma AND tonsillitis.
I‘m weary of people equating Blackness to poverty as an excuse for poorer outcomes.
It’s uncomfortable to think of your institution failing Black people simply for being Black, I get it. But recognise that it’s happening rather than placing blame solely on deprivation
Today?
We look further into the
@gmcuk
data & specialty exams
“Surely it is about deprivation”
Ok. Digest this.
A Black doctor in the LEAST deprived quintile (5) has 10% lower pass rate than a White doctor in the MOST deprived quartile
More accountability- less hashtags.
@DrrDentist
Absolutely - but if this is what applicants are presented with on Oriel, I would suggest the form itself is misleading. If one of the forms of evidence *listed right there* wasn’t valid, it shouldn’t be listed.
I’ve spoken to a fair few grad medics who have jokingly-but-not-really-joking considered doing Only Fans to pay their way through med school (& as such risking their place AT med school). Why is this a thing. Why should you need generational wealth to afford grad entry med school
*Culture shift alert!* for the first time ever, I was invited to present
@CUBlackMedsoc
to the fresh cohort of Student Doctors at
@Cambridge_Uni
during their induction; offering our help, support, and guidance these students might need from the very start. How exciting!!
Last ever exam of med school today so we’re giving subliminal messaging green, we’re giving pearl necklace, we’re giving edges and a hair shop drawstring pony with twelve full inches of forehead 😩😮💨
This story did not surprise me in the least.
While her son and I were dating, my first boyfriend’s mother BOUGHT a collection of these dolls to display on her staircase, then gaslit ME into thinking I was the problem for taking objection to that act.
