For all of you dudes that are asking why change this because you don’t know 1 person that got offended by this, let me just say this: I made this change, it does offend me, as non-white, decedent of slaves, born in a country that was the last western country to abolish slavery.

I didn’t think I had to say this but I joined the Rails Core team in 2012, and working in that team for those 9 years is one of the joys I have in my life. I’m not ready to retire, so you will see my face a lot in the rails repositories.

This was one of the extractions we made from the Shopify monolith. That feature was introduced years ago but since we didn’t have big enough apps to justify the feature, we removed. This is an example of how Shopify’s scale is influencing the framework.

I’m happy for my friends at @plataformatec but this blog post is disappointing. It doesn’t talk about any real thing. What will happen with all the important Ruby OSS projects that were owned by @plataformatec ?

It is a lot frustrating when you spend a lot of your time building expertise in something and your expertise is dismissed when most needed. But I’m glad it is Friday 🎆

I’m excited about Ruby Shield, but even more exciting is how we’re accelerating innovation together. For our team, it’s not just about putting in the work, but also looking at how we unlock more means for the teams improving communities we care about.

Today we’re excited to announce Ruby Shield 🛡️ This new initiative in partnership with @ShopifyEng will support open-source and enable us to take on new security-focused projects to better protect our communities. What is this & why are we doing it? 1/🧵

My team made public some cool things we are working on this week. @tomstuart made an optimization to TruffleRuby to eliminate so unnecessary nodes.

I’m having fun making gradual improvements to TruffleRuby. Today’s progress: removing unnecessary null checks from the compiler graph

First reaction after the first day in Brazil after 3 years: I get surprised every time someone speaks with me in Portuguese, like if something was very out of place.

@plataformatec @cantoniodasilva @josevalim and that lunch was the beginning of my career as Ruby developer. The rest is history. I’m who I’m because of someone accepted to have lunch with me. I’m glad I could do the same with other people and I want to continue doing that.

It seems the language they are actually using to build their software is missing is that list. Is that trying to say something?

Is this a list of languages GitHub is re-founded on today?

The good news is that I already fixed 3 bugs that would impact most of you and you don’t need to care anymore.

@Pablo_C_O If you can, please do. I’m not here to tell you what you should or should not do in your projects. But you and I know that you can’t, so don’t brag about something you don’t have. Good luck dealing with Linus.

Lately I’m trying to learn more about digital nomads. Am I getting it correctly that some digital nomads are more like digital illegal workers? Most countries’ immigration laws don’t help much that lifestyle.

In the end, the lesson that stays after that tweet is: rewrite your millions of lines of code in a different language every year. Because you can’t improve a language to fulfill your needs, and your needs will always change.
