We have ringed over 50 in the garden since 28th October! Needless to say, we have spent a fortune on apples. This footage is taken with my fabulous OM-1 from the living room window!

♥️ 🦉 🦉 Any sighting of Long-eared Owls is a welcome one, but seeing two together today, that was just priceless joy through the camera…

I think photographing seabirds, gulls & seaducks in Lerwick harbour in winter, surrounded by stunning reflective waters on calm days is one of my top Shetland photographic experiences. Here’s an Eider with 🦓 zebra reflection from earlier today.

Who would have thought it .... a beautiful Tengmalm’s Owl 🦉 this morning at Lyndsey Lea plantation, Kergord, Shetland. 1st rarity shot with new Olympus gear.... thanks to re-finder Phil Harris & initial news from Brydon Thomason.

Found this wonderful Shetland Mountain Hare today whilst out west. With no snow these stunning furry mammals stand out a mile against the heather. First photo taken with x1.4 converter fitted to my new Olympus E-M1X/300mm f.4 set up.

One of the pleasures of birding shetland - seeing a wryneck fly across the road in front of me as I was driving back to Lerwick from Sumburgh this afternoon! brightens up any dreich day...have a good weekend folks! Autumns here! 🍂

First scarcity shot with Olympus!
First Waxwing of the autumn on Fair Isle yesterday, a strikingly beautiful adult which came immediately down to apples at Burkle. This sighting was 20 minutes after enjoying views of the Hoopoe at South Light.

Fabulous Lerwick harbour scene on Friday as I was showing my 4 year old a Common Tern..another came in and passed over a courtship fish! Loving my local bird life & Olympus gear (E-M1X with 300mm & x1.4 converter) 📷 ♥️

A little video of the amazing encounter I had on Wednesday with a juvenile Merlin consuming a young starling. First attempt hand holding the Olympus E-M1X with 300mm pro lens in video mode - very impressed! Thanks again to Agnes

So thrilled to see a pair of Red-necked Phalarope streak over the heather & land in a pool in front of me yesterday whilst our surveying. Probably fresh in after a migration from the Southern Hemisphere. Here’s the female! Taken with

Eastern Promise: The rather gorgeous mega WHITE’S THRUSH at Quendale this morning. I forget how big these sibe zootheras are...they never fail to impress even at distance.
Posting a golden oldie today, a wild Barn Owl taken along a dyke track at the Ouse Washes, Cambridgeshire some years ago. Still a favourite. The

The Tengmalm’s Owl 🦉 is still present now back at Lyndsey Lea, Kergord & sampling the local mice. This image was taken on 13th March. Olympus E-M1X, 300mm f.4 pro lens 1/60sec, f5.6, ISO 800.

garden, helped by a constant supply of apples! Gorgeous birds! Hard to photograph in half light & storms but getting there with high ISO capabilities of the OMSYSTEM!

Surreal to be face to face with the Tengmalm’s Owl this pm after a week of no sightings & to be refound again by Phil at Lea Gardens, Tresta like last year! Great focus with poor light with Olympus gear ISO800, 1/80sec f5.6 handheld.

😍 MEGA American Yellow Warbler on Foula, Shetland Islands this morning. Well worth the unplanned, unprepared flight, overnight stay & boat off today. Enjoyable OMSYSTEM photography & good company! Fabulous find Donna Atherton.

Jack Snipe in Common Snipe pose, haven’t seen a Jack Snipe without hunched, bobbing profile on wetland edges. This was special, watching as two birds moved from one patch of snow free ground to another.

Many of you won’t know that I have had osteoarthritis for some years now. I first noticed I had issues with my hips birding Cairngorms for ptarmigan back in 2009! Wish I was out birding but … I’m in hospital about to have a hip replacement!! I know I’m far too young🤣 🍀 ♥️ 🏥
