Just because you have natural hair does not mean you have to do the most. You do not have to: Restyle daily Oil it daily or at all Spray with water daily Add in products daily Deep condition every wash day Pre-poo every wash day Leave it dirty Be afraid of heat

Keeping your hair braided all the time - getting box braids or Knotless braids every 2-3 months - does not grow your hair.

@VidaSterLinG @c0kahina Your hair grows because of growth phases. These occur just like we shed skin. Part of it is the hair being dry in these styles (since you can’t fully wash it) & rubbing against the synthetic hair (lifting the cuticle making it easier to damage) is probably what you’re noticing

I’m not about to act like I don’t see things like this in salon. This is what causes me to say things like take a break between your styles before your hair gets to this point. Cause I give a damn when I see this & I don’t want others to experience it if they can prevent it

For those who want more clarity. I’m referring to protective styles (with extension hair) without breaks between the installs & no haircuts/care over 1-2 years. This didn’t happen overnight or as soon as she got a few installs. This was gradual damage over time.

When it comes to styling your hair a common thing I’ve seen is naturals using creams and leave-in’s as a styler. Unfortunately those products don’t have much hold & that is why you have to keep “refreshing” & retwisting your hair throughout the week. Let me put you on, a 🧵

You moisturize your hair by cleansing & conditioning it. You repeat this process every 5-10 days (depending on your scalp health & activity level) to REPLENISH the moisture (water) & hydrate your hair again. It’s a cycle.

Box braids & Knotless braids are just a cute way to switch up your style. You’d still cleanse your scalp every 10 days or so but you just wouldn’t have to style it. In my professional opinion after 4-6 weeks it’s time for them to go.

Hair will grow regardless of the style you have it in. Also braids (with extension hair that you keep in 8-12 weeks) aren’t as low manipulation as you may think. Your hair is constantly being manipulated anytime you style the braids.

Just a reminder to detangle your hair while your conditioner is in your hair. It’s helpful to use a detangling tool like a wet brush or brush with the best. Finger detangling is not cutting it & if your hair isn’t fully detangled how can your style look it’s best.

@kaijju2 Actually braids with synthetic hair isn’t meant to prevent breakage. This is why…synthetic hair rubbing your hair can lift your cuticle (the layer of protection) which makes it easier for it to break. Also dehydrated hair that is being rubbed against is more likely to break
