Had a number of people ask: what is ‘regulatory rentierism’: a situation where a state-quangocracy extracts economic rent through regulatory power rather than through productive activities and that is incentivised to expand power/rents. Often justified through moral policing.

No. We need to ask how many politicians have actually ever done or achieved anything outside of their PPE, wonk/union, MP sinecures? Stop the regulatory rentierism that enables armies of useless busybodies. Want growth? Get out of people’s lives and stop punishing the doers.

It also weakens one of the most important barriers to chaos and social breakdown: that of shared collective norms. Open criminality with zero costs creates an escalatory normative free for all. Today’s nike trainers will be tomorrow’s murderer.

The violence of shoplifting isn't simply physical. Criminal impunity puts fear into retail staff and shuts down small shops unable to cope. It demoralises communities with little in the first place. If the driver is addiction our wrecked jails are the worst place for them. 1/

@guardian I hope the reincarnation of this SWP front organisation takes female safeguarding far more seriously this time. In 2013, the SWP's 'Kangaroo court' whitewashed severe rape and sexual assault allegations against former Rock against Racism director Martin Smith ("Comrade Delta").

Once again, @bphillipsonMP and Labour side with Uni executive overlords. The legislation made it free for persecuted students/academics (mainly GC women) to defend speech rights. At the moment Judicial review = 80k+! A shameful betrayal of minorities hounded by Uni fat cats.

If this is correct, it’s atrocious. The lobbying action by university managements against HEFOSA was about protecting their relationship with authoritarian regimes, fear of implementing free speech on foreign campuses, and declaring foreign donations.

Just returned from Butterton in the Peak District. A theme in the village was the phrase ‘doubly thankful’. It was only when I visited the church that I learnt that in both World Wars all the village men returned and the phrase stuck. Lovely spot and very ‘old’ England.

And that seeks to push a tribal / ethnic war collective guilt narrative against majorities. This may be permissible amongst silly academics on campus but super dangerous in the real world. People will not stand idly by and watch their history and nation denigrated and destroyed.

When radical wings of postcolonial activists refer to nation-states as "so-called", it is clarifying. The revealed goal isn't justice/equality within the country, but via its removal (formally or not). Replacing it with narrow tribalism of morally ranked groups.

@naomirwolf A strong class dimension here. Gender ID activists exist in a relatively safe, bourgeois bubble world. Easy to destroy norms around female safety in a #BeKind culture of polite manners. Outside the bubble, it's a very different world. Social norms are a fragile first defence.
