On this day, November 18, 1803 Jean Jacques Dessalines commanded the Revolutionary Army to victory in the last battle of the Haitian Revolution, the Battle of Vertières. Napoleon's Army under Rochambeau was defeated causing the French to evacuate.

Haitians always pride themselves on defeating the French when in fact I would argue a feat more worthy of admiration is the defeat of the British. Toussaint L'Ouvterture took five years to defeat the British between 1793-1798.

Bottom 40 percent of Whites have 0.8 percent of white wealth to negative 0.3 percent of White wealth. The bottom 40 percent of Blacks have 0.3% of Black wealth to negative 3.3 percent of Black wealth. So what exactly are we arguing over. A trailer home over or a housing project?

A couple of elections ago there was all this #BlackGirlMagic applause around the number of Black women who became Judges in Texas. This thread illustrates that the three most carceral (pro detention) judges in Harris County, TX happen to be Black women.

Something alarming is happening. I've been tracking this around the country, and I have never seen a judge in modern U.S. history responsible for more people in jail. Judge Ramona Franklin just hit 500 people in jail at the same time solely because they can't pay cash.
