I am seeing people get Captain Beany (New Millennium Bean Party) & Barmy Brunch (Monster Raving Loony Party) mixed up. Beany is spray painted orange to embody the bean, while Barmy wears a bean balaclava (wearing the skin of the bean). And you call yourselves politically aware
Watched MAXXXINE in a cinema in Sheffield and when Lily Collins described herself, in that horrific accent, as being from ‘North Yorkshire’, there was so much laughter lol

I think so having the Keoghan character (spoiler ig) actually turn out to be middle class was one of the (few) elements of the film that worked. A lot of people expect class narratives to be simplified (working class vs upper/middle class), which is where the confusion comes from
Greta Gerwig continues to make perfect movies that are unrepentantly feminine and the major awards continue to say "You are not the winner, but you can be the winner's sister or nurse!" to her.
So much of ‘confessional culture’ (‘I’m self aware and totally in tune with my feelings’) is just faux sincerity in order to hide something *Sandra Huller voice* dirtier and meaner. See: so many singer-songwriters these days

This has been my problem with so much modern cinema as a whole lately. I keep using the term “aesthetic exercise” but that’s what they are. A generation of filmmakers who can ape what they grew up loving with no care as to the “Why” behind their images. It’s hollow.

Conservatives are incapable of producing good art because they lack empathy, which means they are incapable of creating anything which communicates to a larger audience. When they try to produce art, they only end up producing clumsy in-group signaling.
My grandmother hates me going to the cinema on my own. I asked her why and she said because it’s ‘not natural’ and refused to elaborate further. What does that even mean
thinking once again about how triflingly easy it would be target film twitter with a phishing attack. eagerly downloading the foulest malware imaginable because a stranger with an avi of Jeremy Irons in Dead Ringers said the link was a Drive folder of Koji Wakamatsu’s pink films

people love to demand that their internet opponents Read A Book but they never specify which one. is everyone talking about a specific book??? I don't know which one to read to get caught up 😭
Nearly the same amount of time had passed between Gance’s Napoleon and the actual Napoleon’s death on St Helena, as between Scott’s Napoleon and Gance’s Napoleon. Just something to think about
Not a fan of SALTBURN, but don’t really understand this argument. The relationship between the bourgeoisie & minor aristocracy is a rich topic. I don’t think the fact that it’s obvious Fennell has sympathies for the decaying aristocracy bad in itself (many great writers did)
Maybe, just maybe we shouldn’t make the middle-class, queer-coded character a comically evil personification of the devil and the WASPy rich kid an innocent angel in a film that claims to be delivering social critique?

Sion Sono is part of a long tradition of awful creepy sex criminals who are often good at writing interesting and complex female characters. Heartbreaking
A great thing about Elena Ferrante’s writing is that she has so many intriguing and radical observations about the human condition just scattered throughout her work. There is no ‘crescendo’ towards a deep philosophical conclusion. They just quietly exist, perfectly integrated
When I still had OF/dedicated nsfw account/etc, people would comment ‘pawg’ on my nudes all the time and I had no idea what it meant and had no inclination to research what it meant until ages after lol. I thought it was like, slang like ‘babe’ or whatever
