Disabled people are terrified - myself included. When you hear these stories you should be appalled… not be in disbelief.
As for the notion that we shouldn’t be friends with an ableist person - you often don’t know until you know. /2

When I went to Peru in high school (mission trip) they tried to tell me they lost my chair and tried to give me a hospital chair. When I wouldn’t just quietly take the hospital chair, the airline found mine.

I am a wheelchair user who rode the “short bus” forever and I’m awesome! The big bus didn’t deserve me tbh. Still doesn’t.
@Jewcron
I went to a counselor in elementary school who specifically told us she was safe to go to about anything. She called my mom to verify my story and she lied (obviously) and I got in trouble and had to go to counseling once a week for idk how long to figure out why I was “dreaming”

airline this was. Also may have been an international airline, but all airlines seem to have issues of some kind when it comes to people with disabilities.

As a 👩🦼 (woman in a wheelchair), I feel kind of...safe....for the first time in a long time (still waiting to find out when I’m eligible for the vaccine). It’s...weird. Good...and weird. Last time I felt that was when we had

Thank you for noticing the “others”. I am in a wheelchair (born with spina bifida) and learned on my own about people with disabilities who were killed. It’s hard to put into words what that was like...but I try to make sure I teach as much as I learn now.

Nope. I rode the short bus my whole education and even beyond. What I have accomplished blows them all out of the water. This take is 🗑

I’ve had people say “Well you don’t HAVE to stay home.” (Followed up by how uncomfortable it makes people tbat I’m trying to protect myself and stay al!ve)

A few. It may have contributed to a friend’s death recently. But they had underlying conditions and I don’t think they’re going to do an autopsy or anything. I HATE that society expects our deaths because of the underlying conditions and brushes them off like we’re nothing/should

The second to last time I was hospitalized, I was having stomach issues. When I asked for scans, I was either ignored or told I was a hypochondriac/“just anxious”. Every time they finally did a scan, they found something.

I assume these people are talking about what to call other people. Never, ever, ever tell people what labels to use for themselves. Use common/widely accepted terms when talking about a community and always ask people what terms they prefer when talking with/about an individual.

Lucky for them I didn’t d!e, but I was gifted COVID for the second time in a medical facility not taking it seriously after I had mostly avoided people for 3 years.

That when a bully makes fun of someone for the way they look etc., you stick up for the person being made fun of and NEVER side with the bully. OOH horrible lesson!

I’m 38. Since back surgery in middle school, I can tell you when it’s going to rain/snow because everything hurts and I feel like I’m 90. Sometimes I literally can’t move. It happens.

😭 2 people from my parents church mentioned on the prayer chain that they have it. My parents buy into fake news far too easily and believe it’s over because they are “tired” and need to go out to eat etc. “for their mental health”. 😩

🙏 I don’t trust people either and I’m masked and vaccinated etc. likely got COVID and had it for months when this all started. Ended up in the hospital.

As someone who is part of the disability community, this makes me LIVID! Makes me want to throw myself out of my 🦽 and throw hands...no joke.
