Rational fear versus Irrational fear. A supportive 🧵
I was walking into town on Wednesday, with a FFP3 respirator on my face, for a few errands.
A tall, lanky male tourist crossed the path ahead of me and fake coughed, AFTER passing my direct line of sight.
Note: AFTER.
1/14
"Surely they will tell us if things are this bad?"
Who are "They"?
The ones who knew it was airborne in 2020 but didn't tell us?
The ones who knew it was airborne and installed upgraded air filtration and ventilation for themselves but not us?
1/6
I remember the day when someone in my family asked, "if you have LC, why don't you go to the doctor?". Then I sent them the Time article that states that there is no effective treatment nor cure at this time and recovery is rare. The silence was prolonged. 1/2
The expired free tests being given out are literally the message of "we really want you to give up, because we've given up on you". And expired for a year in some cases?? Really?
Melbourne: Marxism Conference over the Easter weekend. A big thank you to everyone who has made the connection between COVID-19, class, disability, Long Covid, and poverty. Solidarity and mutual aid are important in this ongoing pandemic😷💚

#CovidIsAirborne
Why do I keep my respirator on when going about my errands?
An elderly gentleman in front of me just coughed a couple of times and hocked up a lougie, before spitting on the ground about 1 metre away from me.
Because people are nasty, that's why. Adapt and outlast. Simple.
One could almost hear the penny drop and bounce a few times. But at least this family member accepted the science and info. I count two people in my life that believe the science and info I sent them. And it's still staggering for them. It's a lot to take in. /End
Bullies are cowards. Let's break this particular scenario down:
I'm minding my own business, I harm no one's physical health with my respirator on. In fact, I am helping to protect other's physical health by not contributing to aerosol transmission, in an ongoing pandemic.
2/14
Just watched a Youtube video from a food channel. The featured chef is Japanese, his whole crew are masked OUTDOORS while filming somewhere in USA. I count 8 of them.
See, what do they know that the masses don't and why do they still adhere to such policy?
They made my day.
"The Tour de France has reintroduced protective measures against COVID-19".
They worded it correctly. Protective measures. Not restrictions. If only more people understood this basic concept.
Violet Affleck is far more courageous, eloquent and is displaying much higher levels of community care than the herd of supposed adults who *should* really know better. This is an example of how an actual public healthcare leader should behave.
Violet Affleck holding it down at the LA County Board of Supervisors demanding mask availability, mask mandates in hospitals, and clean air in all government buildings including jails and detention centers. Go Violet! 😷🍉
They KNEW in 2020. “You just breathe the air and that’s how it’s passed,” Trump told Woodward, according to The Post. “And so that’s a very tricky one. That’s a very delicate one. It’s also (5 times) more deadly than even your strenuous flu.”
1/2
...respirator still. I won't stop to think about other possible reasons, instead I'll lean on my insecurities and bring them down."
Bullies are cowards. They have Irrational Fear of the 'unknown', often choosing to stay ignorant or to gain comfort by bringing others down..

Versus
A male tourist who is on his way to do whatever the fuck he's doing in his life, going out of his way to harass a complete stranger, presumably to feel better about himself.
His fears exposed;
a) "Oh, someone who still cares about the pandemic, while I don't...

Those of us wearing respirators, using HEPA/MERV filtration units, barrier nasal sprays, CPC mouthwashes and avoiding public indoor settings... we are exercising the precautionary principle.
You think this is for shits and giggles?
This isn't fun. This is life and death.

🧵 A breakdown on an article published today, 6 Feb 2024, that addresses all the important points of the ongoing Kovyd Panini (for algorithm's sake).

Rational Fear or Irrational Fear.
Be wise or be a cowardly bully.
Hint: Choose wisely. The answer is in the often used phrase. It's staring at you, in your damn face.
All of us who are wearing a respirator, thank you. Don't bow down to cowards, continue to be courageous.
/End
Many people have died.
Many children are orphaned.
Millions have Long SARS or Post SARS Syndrome.
Yet the governments have dropped mandates and basic mitigations, even in healthcare settings. HEALTHCARE!
Public health messaging is a complete shitshow and clusterf**k.
8/14
If you need MORE proof that catching a Kovyd infection will f*ck you up in more ways than one. This is it. The British Army will not hire you if you've had a prior moderate or severe infection. Gotta love the vagueness of "moderate".
To my old friends, themme_fatale smashes it again. "I bring up self preservation because 'those people' (the others), that can be you. We have a f*cking mountain of evidence these days that Kovyd damages immune systems. Even from 'mild' acute infections.
3 part video.
1/10
The ones who gave us magical unicorn thinking that wearing a mask to your indoor restaurant is good but you may remove it for eating and drinking?
The ones who told us to vax & relax? Then removed access to the vaccinations?
2/6
It is obvious that we should have Rational Fear!
Rational Fear equals caution. Caution is wise.
There's a reason why the phrase is 'Err on the side of caution'.
Caution saves lives. Caution gives us safety guidelines, protocols and rules.
9/14
If no cars had speedometers, and no roads had stop signs, I wouldn't drive more carelessly, I would drive more carefully or avoid roads entirely.
Removing covid testing and mitigations doesn't make me want to be less careful, it makes me want to be more careful.
Just witnessed the funniest thing.
A guy sat across from me is all relaxed, maskless.
Another guy next to him coughs *that* cough twice.
Guy 1 grimaces then proceeds to pull out an FFP2 mask then puts it on.
I mean...why not just have it on in the first place??
Road accidents and deaths gave us seatbelts, airbags, traffic lights and all the rules to AVOID further deaths.
HIV gave us better sex education and better protection tools.
You see a lion charging at you, you fucking run, right?
Rational Fear is a GOOD THING.
11/14
The ones who still require PCR testing at their indoor events and positive test results are refused entry?
I can go on and on. But surely "they" will tell us. Of course "they" will. When "they" are done.
/End
The ones who told you "you do you" but are now threatening to introduce mask bans?
The ones who didn't even educate people on differences between masks and respirator types?
The ones who are silencing the awareness of Long Covid at every turn?
4/6
The phrase is NOT 'Err on the side of ignorance'! Don't be ignorant.
We literally have history to teach us about past, often painful mistakes.
Cholera gave us clean water.
Countless disease outbreaks gave us vaccine research and vaccines.
Rational Fear is a GOOD THING.
10/14
The ones who also made it difficult to access different types of vaccinations?
The ones who made anti-virals (Paxlovid) $1500 per course?
The ones who are restricting access to anti-virals with many rules?
The ones who told you it was okay for kids to get infected?
3/6
While we currently have a lot of evidence on the long term effects of the SARS-CoV2 virus, a Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) pathogen, through analysis and painstaking studies... we are still finding out more and more about how deadly this pandemic and this virus is.
7/14
Even IF we are overly cautious, even IF we are 'anxious', so what?
If you are truly human or humane or a friend or family, shouldn't you support us?
Do you care? Ask yourself the question, do you care about others, at all?
13/14
If you actually fucking believed that your friends and family have "anxiety" over Covid, you would wear a mask.
Because when friends and family have issues like that, you do what you can to help them.
But you actually just don't fucking care about them at all.
...rather than confronting their irrational behaviours. They fear confronting their own reflections, which is a tough task.
So they choose to belittle or harass others, to inflict their own fears on others. It's a coping mechanism.
Now, let's look at Rational Fear.
6/14
Don't get me wrong, the amount of information one would need to process, if they are just starting to connect the dots, at this stage of the pandemic IS ridiculous.
1/3
This might receive obvious answers but... Anyone else seeing worse cognitive deterioration (than before) from people who suffered a recent Kovyd infection?
I am observing really bad cognitive impairment from people who got infected in the surge.
Is JN.1 worse for cognition?
You know what's painfully ironic?
In a world where it is beneficial to adapt in order to survive, the conscious are the ones who have moved on from 2019.
The ones who can't seem to let go of the old status quo clearly haven't moved on.
Who's literally stuck in the past, now?
The ones who are removing tracking and data on infection rates?
The ones who ventilate the hell out of Economic forum gatherings that held their discussions in the cold, rather than indoors?
5/6
🧵We can be our own worst enemies. It has been mentioned a few times that engineers will be the main ones who will drag us out of this sh*tshow of a timeline by providing innovative solutions. Much like history has shown. Nukit has proved to be one of the most innovative.
1/11
Here's a receipt for the eventuality when the lying stops and media outlets have to be held accountable for deplorable standards of journalism.
Long cold is not a thing. This is made up to minimise a very big issue that people in power don't want to address.
Horrendous manufactured 'brand damage' campaign threatens the perceived validity of 48 million plus disabled, organ-damaged
#LongCovid
sufferers whose lives are already plagued by denial, gaslighting and a complete lack of acceptance and public education.
The effort to silence Long Covid pretty much means how serious this is. The minimisers won't go to this length to play it down if it truly wasn't worth it.
Think about it. Check historical precedence.
I suppose it's time to share this story, because it's been about a year. An old friend of mine, who I've known since we were 13, was one of the first few who received my information document about SARS-CoV-2. He's a really nice guy and has had a lot of patience for me.
1/9
Another day, another huge observation in the cognitive decline of people.
It's one thing to not read the finer details I've laid out in emails 4 MONTHS AGO.
Sure, everyone does that (I'm being very generous here).
1/2
"Any chance you’ve had whatever cold is going around? Wife and I both had/have it, made our tongues and taste buds so inflamed everything tastes spicy as hell. Calming down now thankfully."
Just stop, please. Just stop. Thanks.
Today's tweet. That's it. That's the tweet.
I've been told once by a formerly close friend that it's time to "move on". Move on from what exactly? Community care? Loving your family?
This formerly close friend refuses to f*cking wear a respirator while their Mom is wearing one.
🧵Being SARS-CoV-2 safe with people outside your home is absolutely 100% doable. It's all about mutual respect and understanding. A nice thread for our Monday morning.
For whatever it's worth, there's been a deluge of positive C19 cases within 1st degree contacts and their immediate family members in the last 2 weeks. And these are the people who test.
Stay safe out there, friends. It's going to get messy.
Why many people don't think about SARS2 at all - “Part of this is psychological – for two to three years it was something people had to think about all the time and is something that for many had many negative memories and feelings attached to it...”
1/3
Sending out some strength this morning. The amount of illness right now is just beyond belief. Festival flu, Summer flu, Glastonbury flu, Euros flu and soon Olympics flu. This horror show will have to end eventually. Don't know when the actual tipping point is but hang in there.
You'd think that intelligent & loving people will choose empathy, compassion and community care in an uncertain world.
Instead almost everyone has been revealed to be apathetic, heartless and extremely selfish.
What's a word for anger + disappointment + bewilderment?
So, I don’t remember a designated “coughing room” existing at performance halls in prepandemic times
H/T to my local Still Coviding FB Group for this find.
Please read this thread. "The Mask (respirator) protects your brain….and if the brain is functioning at full capacity, none of what we see going on would have ever happened."
I met with a Medical Director in a Neurology Group a few weeks ago. Outside of his locations are signs that read “No Mask No Entry Until Further Notice.” 1/13
It is today that I'm made painfully aware that most people do not like their perception of joy taken away from them.
No manner of reasoning nor request for empathy will provide enough pause of thought to even consider a route not quite aligned to achieve that perception of joy.
Vaccine types, variants, vascular damage, viral persistence, aerosol transmissions, aerosol & >N95 physics, respirator fit & seal, air filtration, ventilation and indoor air quality measurements. It is overwhelming, for sure.
2/3
I cried after we ended the chat. I wished I could have done more. Eventually, I accepted that I did my best and it is ultimately a failure of the public health system.
I still think about how I could have provided more info or anything else that could have helped him more.
7/9
And if "we" think they are ignoring us now, because it's much easier to deny facts and that they have betrayed themselves in terms of responsibility. I shudder to imagine how they will react when they can ignore it no longer.
The worst case scenario isn't even imaginable.
/End
And so here we are, still waist deep in this sh*tshow, with more and more people telling me of post infection issues. But these people didn't bother to respond positively to my information.
I suppose that saves me more grief, for now.
8/9
It's another thing altogether to completely forget that project feedback discussed back in January and was provided by THEM. And they are ignoring their own previous feedback!
How is this productive use of everyone's time? How is this form of communication sustainable?
End
My partner and I regularly discuss how we distribute labor in our home. Today he thanked me for my effort and energy that goes into protecting us from COVID.
“You hold it down with staying up to date on the information and tools to keep us safe and I really appreciate it” 🥹
1) Upfront and centre in the title of the article and lead-in: It's not f*cking over!
"Rampant COVID Poses New Challenges in the Fifth Year of the Pandemic"
“We’re still in a pandemic,” says a lead COVID official with the WHO.
I like this. A lot.
2/24
The dystopian future is already here, just that it's being slooooowly introduced and implemented. Take a closer look and you might not like what you see.
Oh wait. Nobody is paying attention. Great.
For those who are afraid to be different from the rest of the herd:
Each of us are born different. The very fact that finger prints are unique to an individual proves this.
What does this say? There's absolutely no point assimilating into a crowd to feel comfortable.
1/3
We have cultivated a full generation of people who have confused "freedom" with "care-free". And the definition of "care-free" has been diluted to being callous, careless and negligent.
And we are all paying for it.
@Sheep_in_fog
Eh, I've not seen a single respirator wearer "in the wild" for a few days.
Some of the sheep look at me, alarmed, as if I'm the one who is walking around as a carrier/spreader of SARS2.
An old lady at the bus stop looked at me, a little concerned.
It is hilarious, the irony.
Everyday I'm met with cognitive dissonance, reactance and inability to adapt, in my home. Couple that with narcissistic emotional abuse and endless reminders of betrayal, it's just torture stacked on top of torture. I am working on getting out but it's a lot.
It's a lot.
6) Calling out complacency.
"There’s a lot of complacency at the individual level, and more concerning to me is that at the government level."
MVK actually called out the governments! This should be a bloody headline!
7/24
2) Addressing our society's failing, as a whole.
"...much of society has resigned itself to SARS-CoV-2’s constant presence — a surrender that would once have been unthinkable."
Good. Tell people we've pooped the deck, and then some.
3/24
Not to be scathing but the ones who have succumbed to normalising illness all the time are extremely weak minded and lazy. To allow and contribute to friends' and family members' constant bad health is immoral. To always think "it's not that bad" is pure negligence of care.
3) Calling out incompetence in tracking & tracing.
"...between mid-Dec 2023 and mid-Jan 2024... nearly 1 million cases were reported to the WHO globally (although reduced testing and reporting means this is likely a VAST UNDERCOUNT)"
Demand accountability for obfuscation.
4/24
4) Addressing the denial and cognitive dissonance.
"Scientific American spoke with (Maria) Van Kerkhove about entering the fifth year of a pandemic that many want to ignore despite its permanent impact on lives around the world."
Ignoring something won't make it go away.
5/24
If you think it's getting worse, you are absolutely f*cking right. And yet so many people I know have complete faith in the institutions. The horse blinders are well and truly stapled on.
Pump handles. F*cking pump handles. Going to and fro to work to attempt saving lives.
NHS staff with long Covid are now losing their jobs in droves.
Beware-on applying for industrial illness benefits, if asked if you filled your car with fuel, the application goes no further as you might have caught Covid from touching the fuel pump handle
5) More on under reporting, this time citing wastewater testing.
"If we look at wastewater estimates, the actual circulation [of SARS-CoV-2] is somewhere between 2 and 20 times higher than what’s actually being reported by countries."
2 and 20 is a big range. Oh Maria.
6/24
9) Addressing non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs).
"...using masks for respiratory pathogens that transmit through the air is a no-brainer... plus improving ventilation."
Ahem, use RESPIRATORS for respiratory pathogens. "Transmit through the air" - AIRBORNE AEROSOLS.
10/24
Story time 🧵: About a month ago I messaged two people I trust re. forward planning when the information re. H5N1 started to escalate (not a lot compared to these days).
1/7
He was one of the very, very few who responded well to the information. At that point in time, his kid caught it once and his wife, the same. He managed to avoid it, somehow.
He asked all the right questions re. air purifiers, ventilation guidance and LC issues.
2/9
A few months later we checked in on each other. He shared that he's developed a protracted sinus issue that's really affecting his sleep. A terrible hacking cough as well. He sounded tired and defeated.
Next thing he said was, "Life has to go on, can't dwell on it, right?"
6/9
I was really glad because he installed informed mitigations in his home to protect himself and his family.
But about 2 months later, he tested positive. He mentioned that it was after he met his friends for a meal.
4/9
I didn't probe further because it felt like I failed him. It felt like I could have reinforced certain information regarding dining. But I was also cognisant of how much I could advise, and the rest was up to him. I encouraged radical rest & the relevant post infection tips.
5/9
7) Addressing the role of the two big threats in our efforts to overcome this f*cking mess.
"The misinformation and disinformation that’s out there is hampering the ability to mount an effective response."
Yep, stop reading & spreading bullshit. Follow Science, thanks.
8/24
The family that I think of as my 'canary in a coalmine' have just come down with 'a new bug'.
4 out of 6 are off with 'a really heavy cold'.
They're often sick at the beginning of a new wave.
It was great because I got to delve deeper into some of the information I provided him, because he was looking for solutions specific to his home and location. Somebody is listening!
We had good to and fros checking up on local guidance and questioned outdated policies.
3/9
Drumpf admitted that he downplayed it intentionally! And he "liked" downplaying it.
Honestly, read this f*cking article. It's literally staring us in the face. They KNEW it was airborne from the get go. They KNEW it was really serious.
Wake. The. Hell. Up.
End
SARS-CoV-2 hitting us could & should have been an awakening, make us recognise our strengths and come together. A good rehearsal, of sorts, for the potential Avian Flu Pandemic. It could have been, "Oh, we've done this before, we know what to do now and even better!"
1/2
8) Addressing accessibility to pharmaceuticals.
"Lack of access to lifesaving tools such as diagnostics, therapeutics & vaccines is still a problem. Demand for vaccination is very low around the world."
Well, don't freaking promote vax and relax approach, then.
9/24
My apologies for the 24 part thread. I couldn't help but pick at the points. It is a useful enough article. A weary message to the masses to pay attention.
It's Year 5. We need stronger voices from strong leaders. No ifs, no buts.
#WearARespi
#WearARespie
#WearYourRespi
End/
11) Acknowledging that this can be prevented.
"The COVID pandemic was not normal. This amount of death is not normal. It didn’t have to be this way."
Was??? Was??? And yes, it's not normal, and yes it should not be this way.
13/24
This is my son Eddie a few months before he was diagnosed with cancer.
We used masks/testing/ventilation to keep him free of respiratory illness during this journey, which improved both the quality and quantity of time we had with him.
A thread…
9) NPIs continued. Gotta rant.
Say the words, MVK.
Use "Respirators" or as
@NeoOdist
and
@ToshiAkima
have made it easier for you – Respis.
Use the words "Airborne" and "Aerosol", don't be shy, I'm agreeing with you, it's a no-brainer.
11/24
18) Barely mentioning Long Kovyd.
"It’s evolving. it’s killing. It’s causing post-COVID conditions [also called long COVID]. And we don’t know the long-term effects. It’s a virus that is here to stay."
Long Kovyd is a mass disabling problem. Tell the painful truth.
20/24
