Well that’s it. The last item that was auctioned off has left our farm. My wife still had a couple tears to shed.Retiring from farming isn’t easy. Many people don’t understand, that this isn’t just a job!
Last combine ride together! Competition of

marks the final year for us farming. Things change, and life sometimes says you must focus on other things. Truly have been blessed to have had the privilege to do something I love for all these years.

has started with field peas, right by our farmyard.I used to think it couldn’t possibly get done without me.I was wrong.I’m good with this. Be safe all.
I’m going to a private, pay out of my pocket MRI. Nothing life threatening. I just want to get it done,so that we can develop a plan sooner. If I’m not waiting in line, the person behind me just moved up,the way I see it.
I wasn’t sure how I would feel when I started loading out equipment after our recent auction. Yesterday the young farmer who came to pickup was so happy with his purchase. Made my day!
The practice of some special crops buyers taking their sweet time paying me for my product must stop. I shouldn’t have bug you. I think it’s time for the industry to adopt new standards for prompt payments.

It’s been very different (and maybe a bit stressful) getting equipment ready for pictures for our upcoming auction vs. planting. June 11. Stay tuned for details.
These days we hear an awful lot about sustainable agriculture. Yet not much thought has been given to sustainable urban development,in this part of the world anyway. Do we continue allowing prime agriculture land to be gobbled up by urbanization?

I spray with this old flexicoil 67 XL. 7.5 miles/hr. Not near as fast as the self propelled I know. Not near the dust either. Glysophate doesn’t like dust! The last sentence is the old Chem. Rep. coming out of me. If you can slow down when dusty.
Supermarket in Medicine Hat. Some wore masks, others didn’t. Everyone seemed to be respectful of each other. Kinda wonder about the guy still wearing his around his chin. 🤷♂️😁 He too must have his own logic, and I didn’t ask.
My youngest is 29 years old. He puts in some long days and sometimes covers a lot of miles. I still worry. I guess they’re always our kids,no matter how old.
Honestly I try not to judge others by their appearance. But if you’re out in public wearing your pajamas and slippers, you’re making it really difficult.
Last nights Medicine Hat tigers game had them ask all the farmers to stand up for “ thank a farmer” recognition. Granted there was ag business sponsorship of the game, but still kinda nice. 1/2
I remember my Dad ( a devout Catholic) used to cross himself when he finished harvest. He was thankful that all of us were safe, and the honour to be able to grow food for so many. It was never just about the business.
Many visitors coming to our farm to view equipment for our upcoming

auction have been very kind. Wishing us well in our sale and our retirement. Farm people are the best, and I hope to always be accounted among them.
Yesterday was a big day here with our equipment auction. Busy,as I expected. I’m very satisfied with the results. Thanks to both successful and unsuccessful bidders. Also a big thank you to those here that were so supportive.
Post auction sale. With mostly everything gone now,the farmyard looks pretty empty. That’ll take some getting used to. Met some wonderful people that came through here, some I wish I would have had more time. This was tiring, but we only do this once!
Yesterday I had a close call. Stupid really.Almost missed the grab bar coming out of the tractor cab. Thankfully I caught myself against the door. That hurt too.Was a reminder to slow down in this

The last time farmers bought a bunch of fuel and stored it for a couple of years worked out really well for me! This came from a mechanic who’s been in business for a few decades. He added; And injector pumps weren’t as finicky then as they are now!
Saskatchewan RCMP spoke from a community hall in Richmound, Sask. Tuesday afternoon where they addressed the presence of a ‘QAnon queen’ group in the village.
Yesterday while out checking crop my neighbour was right across the fence doing the same thing. We hadn’t seen each other for awhile so we had a good visit. It was time well spent.Sometimes we get so busy, that we forget to take time to be friends. Life is short, take the time.
Made a 4 hour round trip for parts to Swift Current Sk. Was sad to see the empty buildings at Maple Creek where just a short time ago I’m sure I would have gotten what I needed. (40 min. drive). Founder recently passed as well,RIP Louie
Toughest thing about being broke down at harvest and waiting for parts,is watching the neighbours going. Wishing it was us,and eager to get back at it!
I was watching on the news this morning some of the nurses and health care workers receiving their Covid vaccinations. You could see the smiles even though they were masked. Made me smile too. Need more positives. 👍
Newest pet peeve. People in public areas that have phone conversations on Speaker. I don’t want to hear your call. I mute my phone in Doctors office, etc.

In some provinces in Canada, getting caught driving without insurance comes with huge fines! Get in an accident, and you’ll be facing a lawsuit!
Learned that an older friend of mine passed away. Nick died 2 weeks to the day after his wife Bernie of 65 years passing. I honestly believe he just wasn’t going to be left behind. RIP Nick and Bernie, you’re together as always. 😊
A while back I went on a rant about having to bug a buyer to get paid. Thought only fair to post good news this time.Shipped green peas Dec 30.(different buyer) money wired to account by Jan 3. This is how it should go. 😊

Last load of Brown Mustard into the bin.

complete. Earliest in years. Still in a drought in our little corner, but better than last year!😁
Today we attended the life celebration of our 56 year young neighbour. She battled cancer for 10 years. Very courageous, her close friends and family described how she lived life to the fullest. I still have much to learn.
I’ve been gone away for a week. Surprised that the mustard is still flowering.Peas were planted early and there will be some seeds in the pods. They are taller than the Durum for the most part.
Been on a little drive to Gabriola island B.C. A couple ferry rides included. Visited a family member, and met some wonderful people. A truly beautiful place,if you ever get the chance.
Usually I really enjoy the crop scouting part of not so much. The mustard and peas actually look not too bad,as I caught a few showers there. Some of the Durum however,is getting desperate for moisture.

🤣🤣 looks like someone managed to get rid of an old unwanted tank. Now they don’t have to deal with disposal. Most farmers use ground level tanks with electric pumps.
The current economic crisis we are in should convince people that there is now way we should be running deficits when times are good. Not even when mediocre. In the future I hope politicians stop buying votes and citizens quit expecting so much!
When my son decided to pursue a career in radio, I never thought I would have to worry about his safety. This past weekend I was. As a local media rep,he covered local rallies where he works. He has been targeted by some people. Some of his colleagues threatened!
Immediate family here today.
All are reasonably healthy.
We all have a roof over our head.
If we’ve missed a meal it was our fault.
We have a lot to be thankful for,and should be every day!
Even on sale this works out to about $45/ bu. I’m currently trying to nail down $8.50 for new crop. This is why I shouldn’t go grocery shopping.

New Richardson grain elevator at Carmichael Sk. not impressing me with product delivery. Giving me 2 day window next week and then changing the days after trucker booked and life’s other appointments made. Extra $ are not worth this hassle. Take product 5 days a week. The End!
Dealer called to tell me he sold my old combine. It’s going to Prince Edward Island! First thought was I didn’t know a 2388 could harvest potatoes. 😁 I know, I’m stereotyping….
We covered about 2500 Km. during our recent trip. Loved the drive to Waskesiu and then west to Lac la Biche. on to Camrose AB. Better than a drive through those big rocks to the west.
A friend who farms with his son took a fall coming out of the sprayer they just acquired this spring. Pretty banged up but he’ll be okay. His son has become ill from COVID contracted at his off farm job. Please everyone be careful!
