I understand the sentiment and real care that goes into the "please talk guys" response to suicide. But Scott Hutchinson had been talking about MH for decades.
The larger problem is there isn't widespread support and services for people who do talk. That's incredibly isolating.
There are countless people who are battling depression who seek out help from their GPs and effectively get made to feel they're overreacting. I've been there.
More focus is needed to ensure we all have accessible MH professionals close by, and that CBT is made an early option
Seen a few people say they haven't/won't listen to the Cindy Lee record because it's not on Spotify (even though it's free on YouTube). Madness! The smoothing of tech and removal of options outside of streaming is doing serious harm to people's curiosity.
I'm sorry to be writing this so soon after this heartbreaking news when the pain is real for many, but I don't know how to best channel this frustration and sadness
My thoughts are with Scott's family and friends. The world will be listening to his words for comfort tonight
@misterminsoo
I was okay on Past Lives, but do we so quickly have to go to "liking this means you have a personality flaw?" Discussing art on here is already miserable as is!
Britpop is back! For my Guardian debut, I interviewed AG Cook, Nia Archives and Rachel Chinouriri - artists who all have albums that play with Britpop and national identity. What does Britpop mean in 2024?
@douglasgrnwd
I've seen loads of people getting piled on by the hive for this quite reasonable criticism too. It's so jarring that this is how she's coming back to live performance.
@ggFinn1
@IGN
People are reading this wrong (because its clunky). They're saying capcom are the masters of this genre, and this is the best horror shooter not made by capcom
Immensely excited about this! For their Feb issue,
@LoudAndQuietMag
sent me to Paris to interview Kim Gordon about her new album, The Collective. Absolute career highlight. She had amazing things to say about politics, technology, Musk and her art practice.
This is so disappointing from Roisin Murphy if it's real (which looks likely.) These ignorant 'concerns' often turn into very radicalised views. For it to come from an artist who's so embedded in queer culture is incredibly grim.
“You can't hide from the truth, cause the truth is all there is” - well
@roisinmurphy
- the truth is that you ARE expressing transphobic views here on FB with your personal account under a post about the vile transphobe Glinner.
SOPHIE made incredible, daring, funny, sweet, scary and uplifting music that will stand the test of time.
Her art was an inspiration, and made a lot of queer people feel a lot less lonely. I'm absolutely devastated by the news of her passing. Sending love to all who knew her.
My Cover Feature interview with the one and only Kim Gordon is now online. She gave great insight into where her head's at if you've been enjoying these singles.
Reminder that WEST doesn't care for their workers at all. It's obviously a really difficult time for all businesses in hospitality, but WEST have been frequently combative and uncooperative with staff asking for the bare mininum
Contracted staff
@Westbeer
have been told that if they want paid over the next 16 days they should take their remaining holidays or receive 8 hours PER WEEK in the warehouse. The company is refusing to re-furlough them under JRS rules. Today, the owner flew-out to the Caribbean.
So I lost my bar job for bringing in some sweets to have while doing the tips, on my first day off after a string of 12 hour shifts. Got a bit snippy with the horrible manager that berated me for such a crime. Fired for gross misconduct
Feel like dirt. Capitalism was a mistake.
Bandcamp Daily has been an essential source for music discovery, community and criticism. So depressing to see it being stripped for parts by yet another faceless tech company.
Really chuffed to have interviewed
@aya_yco
about her fantastic new record. We also talked about weaving, the 'think' break, and Sadie Plant ->
@theQuietus
A previous employer has just sacked a co-worker without notice for a benign tweet suggesting they do something for Black Lives Matter. During a pandemic, where there's no customer service jobs going in Glasgow. Not the first time they've been so heartless.
Just lost my day job for COVID-related reasons. Please fire any relevant job vacancies my way - 4 years experience in digital marketing, Journalism and copywriting. I'm also available for freelance music writing, essays, features, and editing 👩🏻💻✍🏻 verymuchmusic

The inevitable Chappell Roan backlash is drifting in yikes directions. Straight critics shouldnt be throwing paragraphs like this around so haphazardly...
@NotRealMusic
This one is so bizarre. It was basically a glowing review and now Ann Powers is getting shitloads if abuse because someone who named themselves Lana Del Rey doesn’t think she has a persona
Small brain: it's coming home
Normal brain: we're probably going to get pumped by Croatia
Big brain: post-brexit, it's toxic to be fuelling national pride when it allows xenophobia and intolerance to become normalised
Galaxy brain: football's bloody coming home get the bunting
So hi, my name is Stephen and I'm queer. I have a long-term girlfriend, and I think boys are cute. She agrees! Sometimes I wear makeup, paint my nails and throw on a skirt in my own home. I have gender disphoria I'm not sure how to combat but the internet is helping ✨
Wrote this from a very personal place. On the importance of queer club nights and communal healing - the kind many will be missing right now. Hopefully it'll provide some comfort and make others understand
As cool as it is that Brockhampton got Radio 1 airplay, it's also depressing that one of the UK's highest paid DJs was completely unaware of THE most buzzed about band of the past year. It shows how out of touch the BBC (and mainstream radio) can be 🤷🏻♀️
#BROCKHAMPTON
I only take pics now when I’m wearing makeup, dressed femme. But that’s not always me, mostly because It’s not safe being visible all the time (and effort lol)
My transness is usually hidden, which tbh, hurts
Still, I feel closer to myself than I ever have. That is wonderful.
This is a pretty vulnerable thing to post but I'm currently fundraising for gender-affirming healthcare. Any help would be really appreciated! Please share and donate if you can xx
I promise to shut up soon, but a big reason this means a lot is that it was a rare gig where I got a sense of what music writing can be and often used to be. Poor pay, instability and a lack of access means this usually feels like a silly hobby rather than a "proper career".
Immensely excited about this! For their Feb issue,

Got two big features in the new edition of
@LoudAndQuietMag
. First was a brilliant long chat with
@agcook404
about his favourite underrated artists. Of course, the conversation went into some truly brilliant rabbit holes. You can pick up a copy here!
Day one of TRNSMT Watch while working at a pub by Glasgow Green.
5 Stone Roses t-shirts
4 "do you have Tennant's, pal?"
2 underagers at the bar.
It will only get worse with Liam Gallagher. Updates to follow.
Playing around with lippy for the first time around pals. Huge confidence boost tbh. This is why being visable is important, even if taking selfies feels like I'm up my own arse 😅

Lindsey and I celebrated our seven year anniversary by lying in the sun, eating homemade treats and hugging a lot. Tbh, we probably would have done the same thing regardless. Just spending time with each other, innit
Currently working on a big project covering the Midnight Organ Fight's personal resonance with many of us, and its wider legacy and influence on Scottish music.
If you have a personal connection to the music and fancy sharing your experiences, I'd love to chat x
Very excited for this to be out in the world. Probably my favourite interview I’ve done, with a total hero of mine. It was an emotional chat. I’m so proud of how it’s come out thanks to the amazing editors at
@GoldFlakePaint
Expect me to plug it a lot...
Now that I've finished my masters in multimedia journalism *gulp* I'm on the job hunt! If you see any (paid/stable) posts in publishing, content marketing, or cultural journalism, give me a shout.
Experience in magazine and web editing, copywriting and social media managing too
It's here, and it's beautiful!! 😭😭 I'm so chuffed with how my interview with Glenn Copeland came out, and I'm already loving exploring the other brilliant features.
@GoldFlakePaint

When I was out last night, two groups of random guys made comments about a vaguely androgynous flowery shirt I was wearing. No makeup on, very much male-looking. Just a nice shirt. Why are people threatened by the slightest whiff on non-conformity? It makes me fear being myself.
So I outed myself to some co-workers today in casual conversation (I'm bi). It was terrible, and they were super hostile: "Don't you have a fit bird? She okay with it?" "Cmon, you can say you are gay, we all thought you were anyway" "so would you fuck [male coworker]?" Etc 1/4
There's a lot of talk 'virtue signalling' when it comes to rainbow flags in businesses/shops. I just know that it's a huge sigh of relief when I spot a pride flag when I'm somewhere, and that's all It's meant to be. It's depressing that some can't empathise with that.
Freelancing has been very successful and really rewarding this month!
But I’m still in need of a stable job in or around Glasgow. I’ve got plenty experience in multimedia journalism, digital marketing, copywriting and PR work! A charity focus would be a dream.
This is incredibly grim and scary to see from a major newspaper. It's not about protecting children. Certain people aren't going to rest until trans people can't exist in the UK. Please stand up for us.
Unsurprising but beyond frustrating to read this headline in the Guardian, which has been cheerleading the destruction of sanctioned pathways to puberty blockers and hormone therapy for trans youth. Block those pathways, people turn to DIY. It's simple.
Delighted to have helped write a bio to support this release. It's a cracker of a record and it deserves a lot of love. Jordan is only just getting started.
I am so proud to announce my debut album ‘I AM JORDAN’, on
@ninjatune
- out 10th May. This has meant everything to me over the last 2 years, it’s enabled so much artistic growth and been an integral part of my transition. I can’t wait to share it with you
Really quite proud of some of the writing work I've done this year. I've made some brilliant connections with amazing people. But even so, it feels tougher and tougher to ever see how independent music writing can be a sustainable career. It's f*cking sad!
Music writing, physical media and human curation are ways for us to more tangibly and deeply interact with culture.
All three are being degraded rapidly. Without them, music becomes another vague content soup to swim through, and art is devalued more than it already has been.
Much love to everyone at Edinburgh Pride
I'll be invisibly queer here in my current bar job, where presenting as I wish could get me harrassed. That risk is crushing. We simply aren't there yet. Today is a chance to enjoy and fight for our freedom whenever and wherever we can 🌈
Group of women on the train loudly taking about “crossdressers” and how “they’re everywhere now”. It’s honestly disgusting the language they’re using. Fuck everyone in the public eye fuelling this sort of discussion and dehumanising people just trying to live their lives.
This is a really interesting video with a good point, and got me thinking about Letterboxd and RateYourMusic. The gamification of art doesn’t exactly promote deep listening and actual engagement with the media. It can be fun, but we might not always do it healthily.
