On average Jamaica records 200 earthquakes a year most of which are not felt. In 2019 Jamaica recorded 152 earthquakes of which 8 were felt.
The ODPEM has received reports that several roads are flooded including Marcus Garvey Dr., Church Street (Kgn), Spanish Town Rd., Waltham Park Rd. and Hagley Park Rd. Members of the public are being reminded to stay indoors.

has formed. It is expected to induce a Trough across Jamaica as it moves north of Cuba Thursday through to Friday. Showers and thunderstorms could start affecting sections of eastern and central parishes on Thursday night.
The ODPEM wishes to state that the earthquake unit has reported that there is no recorded local earthquake this morning. The public is being reminded that the official source for earthquake reports in Jamaica is the Earthquake Unit in conjunction with the ODPEM.
The Earthquake Unit has confirmed a magnitude 3.9 earthquake was felt in sections of the island at approximately 6:55 pm on August 27, 2020. The earthquake’s epicenter was 8km South of Hope Bay, Portland with a focal depth of 23km.
The Earthquake Unit has confirmed that a minor earthquake was felt in Jamaica at approximately 4:03 EST. The earthquake had a magnitude of 3.1, with a focal depth of 11.2 km and it’s epicentre was located in the Blue Mountains approximately 8km NE of Hagley Gap St. Thomas.

The ODPEM has received reports of flooding in the vicinity of Mandela Terrace, Marverley and Chelsea Avenue. We are asking members of the public to avoid this areas where possible.
The Earthquake Unit has confirmed a magnitude 3.1 earthquake was felt in sections of the island at approximately 1:00 am on August 29, 2020. The earthquake’s epicenter was located near Kitson Town, ST. Catherine with a focal depth of 21km.
The river has broken its banks at 9 Miles. I urge persons to evacuate and make their way to St Benedicts Primary School, located in 7 Miles IMMEDIATELY.
We are aware of a felt earthquake. At this time we have no resorts of damage however the ODPEM and the Earthquake Unit will continue to monitor the situation and provide an update once it becomes available.

The Earthquake Unit has confirmed a minor Earthquake was felt in Jamaica at 6:45am EST approximately 4km Northwest of Guys Hills, St. Catherine with a magnitude of 4.2 and a focal depth of15.1km. The quake was felt in Manchester, St. Catherine and St. Mary

has confirmed a minor earthquake magnitude 3.1 was felt in sections of the island at approximately 12:37pm on Monday August 16, 2021. The earthquake’s epicentre was 6km southwest of Alligator Pond, Manchester with a focal depth of 17km.
The Earthquake Unit has confirmed a magnitude 3.4 earthquake was felt in sections of the island at approximately 2:59pm on Sunday November 8, 2020. The earthquake’s epicenter was 7km northwest of Trinity Ville, St. Thomas, with a focal depth of 6.9km.
The Government of Jamaica has declared Jamaica a disaster area under Section 26 of the Disaster Risk Management. Below is the Enforcement Order that will remain in effect until July 10, 2024. An islandwide curfew will be enforced from 6am to 6pm, starting July 3, 2024.
The Earthquake Unit has confirmed a magnitude 3.7 earthquake was felt in sections of the island at approximately 2:52 am on June 14, 2020. The earthquake’s epicentre was 7km north of Penlyne Castle, St. Thomas with a focal depth of 20km.
The ODPEM is strongly urging the public to stay away and refrain from crossing flooded fords, roads, rivers and streams. This action not only endangers your life but also that of our first responders.
A preliminary report from the Earthquake Unit has confirmed an earthquake was felt in Jamaica at 1:47pmEST with magnitude 4.7 at a depth of 23.1km, 4km East of Angels, St. Catherine.

The Tropical Storm Warning for Jamaica has been discontinued as Tropical Storm Elsa continues to move farther away. This means that the threat of tropical storm conditions no longer exists for the island.

Reports coming in from social media of the earthquake being felt in Kingston, St. Andrew, Portland, St. Catherine (Portmore included) and Manchester.
For the second time in history, the Atlantic Hurricane Season used every designated storm name on the yearly list.
New storms will be named after letters in the Greek alphabet. Tropical Storms Alpha and Beta have already formed.

The country is asked to stay alert as a Tropical Wave east of Jamaica is expected to move across the island Friday evening into Saturday, influencing unstable weather, which includes showers and thunderstorms.

Tropical Storm Laura is not a direct threat to Jamaica.
The 2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season has now officially begun. This year is predicted to be above average and throughout the next 6 months, Jamaica remains vulnerable to impacts from one or more of the predicted 13-20 tropical storms, 6-10 hurricanes or 3-5 major hurricanes.
The main road between Above Rock and Bog Walk in the vicinity of Edwards Piece is impassable due to a landslide. Please use alternate routes should you need to leave your homes.
