Prime Minister Andrew Holness signaled Jamaica's intention to break from the monarchy during a courtesy call with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
The prime minister said Jamaica intends to "fulfill its true ambitions as an independent country."

Prime Minister Holness told King Charles his mother was a wonderful person for whom Jamaicans have a deep love and respect.
The government is working to bring a bill before parliament as early as April next year, that will seek to remove the King of England as Jamaica’s head of state.
