The idea that men and boys of colour between 15 and 65 are basically combatants until proven otherwise has a long, racist-colonial pedigree and it was perfected the past decades through the US-led WOT. There is a straight line between the sexualised torture in Abu Ghraib and this

Me: we need to talk about the real issues. Climate change, student debt, inequality. Also me: I only want to read incredibly detailed accounts of the Four Seasons Total Landscaping debacle, the greatest event in history.

Hi I’m an international lawyer. You may know me from my greatest hits including ‘What do you mean “not really law”’, ‘it’s complicated’, ‘OF COURSE THE IRAQ WAR WAS ILLEGAL’ and ‘no court has jurisdiction’.

Roosvelt were apoplectic and the NAACP even wrote a denunciation of the petition following a direct request from the State Department. The accusations were deemed 'ridiculous' even though many Jim Crow supporters had opposed ratification of the GC fearing that 'destroy in part'

As my cousin took this picture of me in King’s College, Cambridge — a white male student shouted, “if they catch you, you’ll get chucked out.” I sharply told him: I belong here, my portrait hangs in the College Chapel — not his.

jokes aside, a feminism that has no analytical tools or political interest in thinking about and opposing this as a gendered wrong is of no interest to me.

Never, ever forget: those saying we should not judge racists by today's standards erase resistance to racism and empire. This, of course, predominantly came of the colonised and racialised themselves. However, there have always been critics at home too.

If universities were serious about gender equality, they would ask for references (for hires, promotion, tenure) etc not only (or primarily) by fancy profs but by peers and even junior scholars. Much of the work women (and esp. WOC, Indigenous women, queer women) perform 1/2

I am turning 36 very soon and my sense of under-achievement is accentuated by the fact that I have not so far led an egregious violation of one of the most uniformly observed rules of international law.

Unsolicited PhD app advice: 1) go for whoever will give you a decent income for the longest time. 2) choose supervisor, more than institution 3) honourable exceptions aside, superstars do not tend to be great supervisors 4) if possible, go to a smaller place

Unpopular (surprisingly?!) opinion: peer-review is good even if it ends up being occasionally harsh or even unfair. Every single thing that I have written got better after peer-review and this includes the times I bitched about the comments for weeks (as is our god-given right).
