I had the privilege of visiting my alma mater and addressing the graduating class of 2020,2021 and 2022. Was a whirlwind 24 hours but I feel reconnected. From 1:28:45
A whirlwind trip, visited my room when I was 17, the local tea spots, The EE dept, a Pooja at the KV temple and a visit with the VC - sharing that Mahatma Gandhi spoke here. Deep gratitude to the BHU family!
Looking fwd to working with the Palo Alto Networks team. Mark, Nir, Lee, Rajiv, Rene and many others have built a unique company. Feel honored to become a part of it.
5 yrs ago I didn't know what Cybersecurity was, over 15 acquisitions later, seeing 300+ companies and 1000+ customers we have built PANW into a leader. Diverting my energies to the impact of AI to Cyber - see you on the other side.

At Google 2004, I evangelized the Internet to CEOs. Many hired Chief Digital Officers delegated their responsibility because they were busy with the "here and now". All of them have mobile/web first competitor's. Don't hire a Chief AI officer - lead from the front. Transform.
Not a hair out of place. Would want it to happen to anyone but if it does, the Tesla handled it better than anything and the team called me before I could to offer help. Grateful.

We have 5.5k people dialled into our call. Average attendees last 5 years are about 1k. Not sure what to make of this. Someone just educated me on "Friday Night Lights". Thanks all for working with us on this.
We spend our lives de-risking our kids, then we get excited by entrepreneurs who dropped out, they got away! Appetite for risk is what matters when changing the world. "Manageable risk".

- On decision-making. The cost of indecision is higher than the risk of a bad decision. You can fail and pivot, iterate or course correct and make progress with the latter. The former has you stalled.
In my 30 hrs in Bangalore I squeezed in time with
@bhash
. I always learn. I had just read this. Have known him for almost 10 yrs. Yes he's impatient, obsessive, a perfectionist, doesn't suffer fools - but not what they say. I would rather sit in a car built by him! Go get them.
Conversation: wartime vs peacetime CEO's. Where's the peace been? Pandemic, Supply Chain, Ransomware, War, ChatGPT, Bank runs! Competition planning an attack on your best business. There's been no normal. As a CEO - you are either preparing for war, averting it or in it.
Lol. I still have the piece of paper that you scribbled the offer on and you were both generous and a gentleman. You lost a potential employee but gained a friend for a lifetime. Fair trade.
Happy new year all - about time to say goodbye to 2020. Looking forward to an amazing 2021. Set audacious goals, audacious goals create exceptional outcomes.
20+ yrs ago, McKinsey started a BTO practice ("Business Technology Office") = thesis was IT (tech) strategy is company strategy, in every industry = to provide strategic advice to CEOs, one had to master IT = COVID-19 is going to validate this big time

When I started at PANW I wrote a belief document. 1. Beware, we tend to believe our product is a consequence of insight, genius & execution while the other guy got lucky and their product has issues - replicating it is a SMOP (simple matter of programming). It's seldom true.
Thank you. Constantly paranoid and trying to figure out what's around the corner. Many management teams get mired in the today, remember equity values are present values of "FUTURE" CF. We need to ensure the present is delivered and the future is secured.
$PANW Palo Alto Networks CEO Nikesh Arora shared some great insights in a recent interview.
My summary:
Bold Leadership Decisions:
"It was a pretty unique board at Palo Alto which made the decision to go multiple standard deviations away from the norm."
"Most boards are
Whirlwind 7 days, board, earnings, SKO - lots of inspired colleagues heading into FY24 - message to our team "look ahead at solving customer problems in new ways - don't look over your shoulder at competition. You might take the wrong turn." Wish them good luck and God speed.
Spent the last year learning the industry and strengthening our abilities. Ready to take the show on the road!
Palo Alto Networks CEO Nikesh Arora on earnings and growth
As a public company CEO, only one piece of advice to IPO aspirants. Be ready to deliver quarterly cadence, lumpy outcomes will make it a bumpy ride. I saw Google from IPOQ1, from wanting to be different, even G adapted to quarters.
AI is the next wave just like connectivity (internet), mobility, cloud and it will need to be done thoughtfully. Don't rush to deploy, get the data right, create accuracy and think how AI will enable our business. Like all tech transformations, we will need more not less.
What's next for AI?

Belief Doc 4 - A’s hire A’s – B’s hire C’s – hence making sure you have the right leadership team is more important than anything. 5. It might be better to wait for a great senior hire than hurry, the cost of haste could be too much to bear.
Most underhyped tech CEO? Might have to be Adobe's Shantanu Narayen. $ADBE valued at $220B, up roughly $200B from when he took over. Short list of CEOs who have overseen +$200B value increase at a software co:
1) Satya Nadella
2) Shantanu Narayen

Thank you for posting this. I like the part "you don't want ChatGPT driving your car, you need precision AI". Early days on AI and Security, but here the one measured one will win. Lipstick on a........ - copilots won't win.
Today, we’re announcing updates to how we work at Box. Box employees can work anywhere at least until 2021; we’ve added remote work stipend and health benefits; and we’ll focus on balancing office and expanded remote work, bridged by a digital workplace. .
Good luck with the Q! Moot point - but think the 3rd umpire needs precedence on some decisions. Check out the Surya and Sundar dismissals, could happen to any team.
2/2 Cyber is the most innovative industry, one has to have the humility that innovation will come from all around us, we have to have conviction, gumption and single mindedness in ensuring we integrate innovation into customer facing solutions.
🐐 Are Palo Alto and Nikesh Arora the GOAT acquirers in cybersecurity? What can we learn from their M&A strategy?
June 2018, I remember sitting in the audience as Nikesh Arora was introduced to investors as Palo Alto’s next CEO. Palo Alto’s market cap was $19B, modestly bigger

Thank you all for having me over. Was fun. Still think chatgpt has initiated a tech transformation that will ripple through everything we do. If you aren't reevaluating your processes, products as a tech company, you do so at your own peril.
This is one of the proudest moment for the Palo Alto Networks family. Inspires us to continue to strive harder to keep driving for more diversity and inclusion at PANW.

Belief Doc - 2. Success at scale requires a network of entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs are enabled by “accountability” – you can have monitoring systems in place to track success, micro-management doesn’t work.
This is what we have done at PANW over the last two and a half years.
From my time at Google till today I have always believed that all accounts should be real name verified. I know it is concerning in some parts of the world and we should find a way to solve it, but we are heading to a real name registry, it's not just a Twitter problem.
Given that modern AI can solve any “prove you’re not a robot” tests, it’s now trivial to spin up 100k human-like bots for less than a penny per account.
Paid verification increases bot cost by ~10,000% & makes it much easier to identify bots by phone & CC clustering.
Obvious
Excited to welcome the Cloudgenix team. Heads down, continue to support our customers, build platforms and make sure the PANW family is healthy and safe.
