Despite Neumann's failures and the massive valuation drop, WeWork has transformed office leasing and made $2.5B revenue last year.
Theranos was a straight fraud.
They're not the same.

He said Gemini image gen screw up was due to not thorough testing 😵💫. I feel like he doesnt understand how much trust damage it’s doing to Google as a brand:
Bootstrapping is easier with a profitable side hustle.
We bought email app sendicate for $150,000 in 2014, and it’s generated back $2.4M.
Having that income stream meant we were able to deploy our own money building Bluethumb and SmartrMail to traction before raising.

Tbh I just like a few friends over for dinner, and no 9pm curfew.
10,000 people at a horse race? Can’t we just open small venues and restaurants instead?
We had a 117% increase in new users on

March to April. Spoke to
@YolandaRedrup
at
@FinancialReview
about it 🙌🏻📈. Fun fact, was in ER with a fever (not covid luckily), so Yolanda did a great job turning my fever ravings into coherent quotes.

Woah. Also being sued by your brother/major shareholder for overpaying yourself instead of paying dividends, then reacting by smoking all profits on pay rises and launching a PR offensive:
During covid I spend a lot of time and energy growing a mullet. I'm glad it finally made it into a reputable publication.
Thanks

Lockdown is brutal here in Vic, but for ecommerce, it's crazy how big a boost it gives.
Comparing art sales on

Uber was written off as a rich person’s limo app.
Amazon just sold books.
Instagram was a filter app without revenue.
Stripe. Tesla.
Right now: clubhouse.
Just a reminder that when a young man was quarantined in Constantinople (modern day Venice) due to bubonic plague in 1489, he started work on a project that would change the world. The project? Darwin’s Theory of Relativity. The boy? Benjamin Franklin.
The next generation of founders and companies are coming through, and they're bringing our economy - and Australia's future - along with them.
Here are 100 of Australia's top innovators compiled by The Australian alongside a world-class panel of experts.
A childhood friend was a fantastic artist growing up, but didn't purse art after school. After twenty years she started studying art again, and started selling her art on
@BluethumbArt
. She has now sold 100 works on us, and this week sold a piece for $30,500. So happy for her.
Starting mentoring soon again for
@startmate
and I’ve been thinking about the most important founder traits I’ve seen that grow (or keep alive) startups. IMO

Next it’s access to capital, in various forms.
At the start of 2020, we decided to create an Email Marketing Best Practice course for Ecommerce.
We chatted to
@Shopify
and they were interested partnering on it for Shopify Compass.
We filmed it in lockdown in Melbourne, and today it goes live! 🎉📧💸
Our first

exhibit in 2013.
We thought setting up hills hoists and hanging art outside would look cool. It didn’t.
We’re still still doing things that might turn out great, or terrible.
It’s more fun (and occasionally when they work too).
So damn excited to be running Australia's largest art prize again this year, the Bluethumb Art Prize 20!
And we have national treasure Ken Done on board as a judge. Genuine bucket-list stuff here for me 💙🎉

The most interesting people I know, and separately the people who have built the biggest co’s didn’t do this.
Compose, create, study, hang with inspiring people, build a side hustle on weekends. But work a job? Hard nope.

We raised $33,510
@BluethumbArt
🙏🏻💙. Huge thanks to all the artists who donated art, the the buyers who supported them. Incredible love from the Australian art community.
Got vaxxed yesterday.
I've felt an overwhelming relief, out of nowhere. Wasn't even aware I was anxious, as logically there's almost no chance I'd get covid in Melbourne at the moment.
I feel so positive that we can return to a post-covid normal, and soon.
