Fun question! I’d rather not say publicly for lots of practical reasons I’m sure you can imagine. This feels a little wimpy, but also prudent. I think I would submit it to some third party I could trust to keep it anonymous and average it with other people in roles like mine.
20 years ago my dad experienced 9/11 firsthand. He was 29-years old and fresh on the job with the FDNY.
Recently, he told the entire story of his 9/11 experience. It’s horrifying, remarkable, tragic, & inspiring.
This weekend, take a pause & think about the people who ran into that chaos while the world watched frozen in horror.
It’s funny, as an outsider (meaning me) we romanticize these things in ways that firefighters rarely do.
My dad always says “Nicky, I was just doing my job.”
Last week, I walked down the aisle with my dad in one arm & my mom in the other. Thousands of kids just like me never had that privilege. Most of them were too young to even remember the parent they lost.
