I've seen a lot of
@DiegolFagundez
photos over the years, but stumbled across this AP shot tonight and I don't know if there's one that sums him up better than this. As good a soccer player as he is, he's an even better human and a fantastic father.
Remarkable showing at Crocker Field tonight in memory of former coach Charlie Raff. Many tears, many stories… His legacy lives in the impact he made on folks.
Just spoke with Jake Thibeault. What a fantastic young man. With all he’s going through, his biggest concern? “I don’t know how I’ll ever pay back all the people who have supported me.”
The eight-year-old made me do science this morning since he saw
@ericfisher
retweeting some of this stuff. He enjoyed watching this from inside the house.
Nice to see Pat Murphy on the sidelines again. Taking the
@BlueKnightsAD1
boys JV coaching reins this week and roaming the sidelines in his old stomping grounds at North Middlesex, no less.
Through the NFL Foundation Grassroots Program, the New England Patriots are granting $250,000 to Fitchburg Public Schools for the installation of a turf surface at Crocker Field.
St. Bernard’s has allowed several baseball and softball teams to use its fields for games recently. Sad to see areas around the fields look like landfills this morning. How hard is it to carry out bottles/trash if barrels are full? This is why we can’t have nice things.
Over the last few days this much has become very clear: Coaches are more than just coaches. They’re mentors and role models and, in some cases, a mother or father figure and the best guidance some kids have. Thank you to those who take that responsibility very seriously.
Leominster catcher Zack Casey talks about the depth of Leominster’s pitching staff and the confidence the Blue Devils have in anyone they send to the mound.
If the Narragansett and St. Bernard’s football teams want to play each other every week, I’ll gladly show up. Those two teams really seem to bring out the best in one another. Two great games against each other this season.
Memorial Middle School teacher Siobhan Donovan receives a big send off from colleagues on Friday. She’ll run the Boston Marathon on Monday before beginning an aggressive treatment for cancer on Wednesday.
@FitchburgPS
Just got off the phone with Calvin. Talk about a kid who really understands the process of becoming a D1 athlete and what comes along with it. Story coming in tomorrow’s
@SentandEnt
Being an athletic director entails than simply scheduling games.
@FHSathleticdept
's Craig Antocci went on an adventure to rescue a ball from the Nashua River during Wednesday's game between the Red Raiders and Gardner High at Crocker Field.
Young infielders, take note: Ashley got her body behind the ball instead of just flashing her glove at it. She has a bruise, but she made the play.

Honestly pretty surprised I made it this far in my career in sports without this happening. I guess Jonathan Arauz decided that since yesterday was Fitchburg day at the ballpark, he should aim for the person from Fitchburg 😹
Not a bad night for former Leominster standout Pat Gallagher, who struck out eight to earn his first win with the Dunedin Blue Jays on Thursday. via
@milb
Sure,the games are important to
@Post151Baseball
. But just as important is honoring the veterans who have sacrificed to give the team a chance to play.
Very happy for the
@stbfootball
team. It’s a group of respectful and hard-working kids and coaches who deserving of all the success it has had.
Congrats on another state title!
@AthleticsStb
Proud dad moment. Older son says he wants to get toys to give to Santa this year, so Santa can give them to kids who need them. Says he got the idea from watching
@AndySchrock
and his son play with toys that they’d pass on to others.
Some news out of
@AthleticsStb
regarding the spring season: Jeff Dedeian, known for leading
@Post151Baseball
, will take over as head coach of the Bernardians this season. He takes the reins from Athletic Director
@CosenzaRay
.
No. 11 Nashoba Regional will face No. 10 Triton Regional for a trip to the title game. Chalk on the other side of the Division 3 bracket: No 1 Scituate will play No. 5 Watertown.
Leominster has put up a ton of points in its first two games this season. Has it gotten old yet? Judging from the elation seen here between Ma’Kai Stinson Newton and Ricky Encarnacion, the answer is no.
Andy Ruth throws out the first pitch prior to Wednesday’s season opener for the Lunenburg Phillies. Ruth’s father Joe, who brought the team to Lunenburg in the 80s and was a player and coach in addition to team owner and CNEBA president, passed away in January.
Simpler times, seven years ago. Back when you could have a
@dogfishbeer
120 Minute IPA run through additional hops in a Randall at the
@BeerAdvocate
Extreme Beer Fest. Those were the days!
Leominster’s head coach Kevin Grutchfield happy to be moving on, but says it’s “heartbreaking” to have put and end to the high school basketball career of his nephew, Newburyport’s James Scali.
Shot photos at
@FHSathleticdept
vs. Gardner boys soccer today and this is my big non-game related takeaway: GHS coach and AD Dan Forte has a fairly impressive beard. It’s very visible, even with a face mask on.
Ray Cosenza is returning to where his career as a high school teacher and administrator got underway.
@BernardianAthl1
names Cosenza its new athletic director.
I’m measuring tonight’s snowfall in Fitchburg in
#craftbeer
. Not much piled up against this 22 oz. bottle of
@Brewmaster_Jack
prinSIPia, but at least I’ll have a nicely chilled beverage shortly.
@ericfisher
He’s put up great numbers, but Ricky Encarnacion has unbelievable intangibles as well. Senior took young players who had gotten frustrated under his wings on the sidelines multiple times in win over Wachusett. Smart kid, great leader.
Coaching is likely in his genes as well, but if nothing else, Wyatt Bingham has his father’s mannerisms down on the sidelines.
@BernardianAthl1
@stbfootball
Pretty proud of my little dude. He brings out water and Gatorade for the postal worker every hot day we’re home. Yesterday, we weren’t going to be home, so he wanted to leave a cooler with drinks and a note.
They haven’t talked much about it, but the
@OakmontBSBL
team will have a chance to defend its Division 3 title after storming past Apponequet Regional on Tuesday.
Oakmont scores with 8.3 seconds left in the half as Curtis Coulson catches a deep pass from Colton Bosselait and goes 65 yards for the TD. 27-6 Spartans.
