"Why did the people stand for such conditions?" The answer to that is short, simple and savage. These weren't people, they were a labor force. When society unanimously, for a long time treats man as less than human, he becomes so.

This is how we got where we are.
According to the U.S. Department of Education, 54% of U.S. adults 16-74 years old - about 130 million people - lack proficiency in literacy, reading below the equivalent of a sixth-grade level.
West Virginia volunteer firefighter, William Pettry, has pled guilty to raping his 11 year old stepdaughter & recording it.
Pettry faces up to 130 years in prison.

I applied to your company and while I wasn't offered a position, your team took the time to reply and thank me for my interest.
TOP NOTCH!

So Florida is the land of the Freedoms to do as they choose, unless their Governor tells them to do what HE wants to them to do, then it's his way or the highway.
Got it.

Our neighbor is an ER nurse at a large hospital here.
He is not the same person he was even a year ago.
I try to not bother him, I say hi and ask if he needs anything when I see him. He always says no thanks and walks inside his house.

Too young to:

8. run for office
9. sign a contract

The whole Wal-Mart thing alone is worthy of me lighting multiple candles for your safe return.
You do know that those stores contain 3 of known levels of hell, right?
@kathygriffin
Ms. Griffin, I've been posting a thank you note over and over.
Here goes again:
I was in a very dark place years ago after a dear friend completed suicide.
My support peeps took me to see your show.
That 2 ish hours reset my brain and I was able to laugh again.
Thank you!

Part of it is that the uneducated have spent decades vilifying the "educated elite" to the point that being an ignoramus is a badge of honor.
@LakotaMan1
My ancestor's had so many opportunities after arriving on these lands. Instead of learning from Native Peoples and creating a potentially mutually beneficial society, they tore the Native Cultures to shreds and stomped on eons of history to suit their desires.
I will not forget.
@LakotaMan1
I follow you because I learn and am reminded of how my ancestors stole this land from so many.
It hurts to see what we did, I can't imagine how it feels for Native People's, but I'm trying.
Thank you for letting me bear witness, Lakota Man.
@LakotaMan1
Natives on the Navajo Nation also need to benefit from the BBB plan of President Biden. Starting with a water system that provides safe, fresh water to each home there.
Today is my 5th wedding anniversary.
Hub and I had to postpone our New Orleans long weekend, so we're going to a really nice restaurant for dinner.
Italian. Kind of posh but not stuffy.
I'm grateful for him in more ways than I can count. He's my best friend too.
@LakotaMan1
The information about the history of Natives and what my ancestors did to them is necessary and important to all our futures. Thank you again, Lakota Man.

Where I live, the power is on, we have running water and heat. If anything I see from around the country is alternative weather facts.
See how fucking stupid that sounds?
He said he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue.
Instead he put the entire country in jeopardy, including his dimwitted followers by selling top-secret documents to foreign adversaries. Lock his dumb ass up already!

It's not King Cake, but it is a MG tradition around these parts: PACZKI (POONCH-KEY)
Paczki is a pre-Lenten Mardi Gras tradition deriving from the Polish word meaning little package.
Basically filled donuts but so much more!
The octogenarian key maker at our local hardware store, in his shaky handwriting marks the price and then carefully folds over the top of the bag, and for that moment we are both back in an analog world.
My New Orleans chef/friend who now lives here in Pittsburgh made me a muffaletta and I'm about to go bonkers. The bread is surprisingly good and the interior is spot on.
If the voting populace of this country cared as much, and were as actively vocal about who's in office, as they do about Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, etal, we'd be golden.

If I'm not crying about the amazing outpouring of kindness generated by my initial comment...well, I am crying.
There's a lot of good peeps, sometimes I forget that.
A friend who did the 23 and Me thing and found his dad wasn't his father, has been pestering me to do it too. I waited about 2 months and then told him not only did I do the test, but I am his uncle.
I didn't do the test, but it was fun to watch him lose his shit about it.
I swore to never marry.
So did my hubs.
Today is our anniversary.
Funny how things work out.
He's the best friend I always wanted and he loves me in the way I always needed.
Anyone else old enough to recall the dental shaming that would happen in grade/middle school when we would have to chew a pill to see how well we had brushed our teeth that morning?
Today has been the shit day from hell at work.
Have had not one, not two, but three old white guys be fucking assholes because they can't handle the word NO.
Even got called the F word.
The one that straight people do NOT get to say EVER/
Thanks for listening.
Where's all my emotional support tweep fam, right now?
I need a virtual fucking hug/s. No bad news rec'd, just feeling very raw with my feelz just below the surface.
All of them, all at once.
Our final piece of furniture arrived today. Ordered last August. I know it's just sitting in the middle of the room, but I've been waiting 7 months for this. Thank you for your cooperation.

My mother hasn't spoken to or even tried to contact me in over ten years. I spent my life trying to get her to just love me, but she wasn't able. I'm sorry you had to cut your son off for being a Republican.
Years ago I took this pic(left) on a hiking trail and imagined this as feature of our someday yard. Then we moved to our house and lo and behold, underneath a tangle of vines I discovered this.
Don't put a date on magic.
