Being 10x just means you’re single, healthy, perfectly caffeinated, well slept, and really interested in the project. It’s rare for all these things to be true at once.

Kids are also sometimes-adversarial agents who respond intelligently in real-time to your actions. And they’re often spending much more of their bandwidth modeling your behavior than you realize. Their chaos is targeted.

Imagine if you had been warning people about the danger of atomic weapons since 1920 and by 1950 you had Oppenheimer thanking you for giving him the idea and a bunch of randos making fun of you for being a doomer just as the Cold War buildup starts

Can we come up with a new label that just refers to "people who were super pissed off about the whole NYT-SSC thing" and just have that be the Schelling-identity that unites rats and postrats?

I've found that almost nobody knows their values until after they've been tested.
"Oh. I guess I *didn't* actually care about that."
I call this the Hebert Curve. It expresses the relationship between the objective goodness/badness of a fictional character, and the hate leveled at that character.
Worm and WGW are both creations by elder Millennials trying to sift through the debris of the discredited moral and ethical frameworks we inherited, trying to piece together something sensible

Something I'm VERY curious about: Testing-based isolation. A simulation where N% of the population is randomly tested every D days, and the individuals that test positive remove themselves from the population. You can also play with false positive/negative rates.
If your position is that the black hole image isn’t “real” because it’s a post-processed statistical aggregation of sparse data, BOY do I have news about how your brain perceives vision

Sometimes I’m tempted to think “corporations” are just groups of people doing their best and then I interact with health insurance companies and remember that corporations are demonic infestations on the mortal plane

Headcanon for today is that Ziz recognized Browbeat would pose a serious problem and arranged to have him punted through an interdimensional wormhole into Smallville, Kansas of Earth-One. His biokinesis reflexively reverted his form to that of an infant.

Normies actually don’t need to be convinced that AI is dangerous and scary, it’s the default stance. It’s only galaxy brain sci fi fans and long-term AI-followers who think the risk argument requires justification
I always find it comical when somebody on Reddit acts like they're smarter or more ethical than Taylor Hebert. There are people in the world that nice and that clever, yes. None would look down on anyone who tried as hard as Skitter, and did as well, facing her problems.

Yeah come on folks. All it does is (without pretraining) write code, write poems and news articles and fiction in convincing style, conduct interviews in the voice of real people, accurately answer technical questions, play tic tac toe, do arithmetic,

There are over 7,000 rare diseases. So the correct metaphor should be something more like: "If you hear hoofbeats, for Christ's sake do not jump to the conclusion that it is the one ungulate you happen to be most familiar with."
@eigenrobot
My take is that doctors don't understand statistics, and this causes a lot of surprising downstream problems.
For example, the "if you hear hoofbeats, expect horses, not zebras" diagnostic guideline is simply and clearly wrong if you think about it for fifteen seconds.
The answer to “Why does <animal> need a tail?” always seems to be “for balance”, and I’m like, yeah sure, I, the most effective biped in the animal kingdom, totally see why you, a quadruped, need help with balance
