After you get an agent, it gets harder, not easier. The competition is MORE fierce. There are far less editors than there are agents and far far less than there are authors. Editors have MORE work, and they’re even slower There’s MORE ghosting. Your chances are even slimmer.

if you’re not ready for feedback —and not only ready, but EAGER, trad pub is not for you. A book is not made by one person. Your favorite books had the hands of 5-10 people in them. You have to know when to look deeper at critique and when to let it slide off your shoulders.

Querying writers ask for my advice here fairly often (more on tiktok) but the biggest, most important advice I can give is something I think we don’t hear enough: Querying does not end with a full request. You should be proud of them, but that’s when the real test begins.

Idk who needs to hear this, but reading queries is NOT an agents' job. Agents' jobs are to sell their clients work. Query reading is unpaid labor. Prepping a book for sub is technically unpaid labor, which is why it requires "love"/passion. Freelance editors can take on work (1)
