Parks Canada released photos showing the strongest evidence of a fire tornado I've seen from the Jasper NP fire so far. These photos in Wabasso Campground show debarked trees, possible asphalt/ground scouring, and shredded low-lying vegetation.

Tree fall analysis of the Wabasso Campground, Jasper NP fire tornado based on Maxar satellite imagery. The tornado reached a maximum width of ~730 meters and had a path length of ~1.57 km. (1/3)

Tornado scar in the Amazon Rainforest along the Peru-Colombia border from 2018. Blowdowns related to downbursts are common in the Amazon but ones caused by tornadoes are extremely rare. 6 km long and 180 m wide.
Photos taken by Parks Canada show evidence of violent fire-generated winds associated with the July 24th run of the Jasper Wildfire Complex. Trees were downed both outside and inside the burned area.

Look how significantly a shift to northerly winds changed fire behavior on the Running Springs cam. From an intense fast-moving fire to a smoldering fire backing into itself.

In the forests of NE BC there is an interesting feature visible on satellite imagery. It appears to be a scar produced by tornado/downburst sometime in Jul-Aug 2011. It is 900 yards wide and 4.62 km long.

Last few minutes from the Santiago Peak cam showing very extreme fire behavior at the

. The spot fires merge and race up uphill at a very high ROS.
Scary look from the Jasper Hinton airport as the plume of the Jasper NP fire hangs overhead. Usually darkness under a smoke plume like this a sign of a very intense wildfire.

Extreme fire behavior on the
#DixieFire
is continuing into the night. Radar is recording three 30+ kft PyroCu/PyroCb clouds on the fire with the one near Chester exceeding 35 kft.
The northern flank of the
#ParkFire
has intensified over the last few minutes and it looks like it is going to make a run into Manton. It is also now only around ~3.3 miles away. Hopefully everyone is out of there.

Full satellite loop of the intense wildfire outbreak yesterday in northern Alberta and British Columbia, with 5 pyroCbs. This might be the largest late September event seen in the region since 1950.

Activity is rapidly increasing on the

Large tornado scar in S. Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia. It is 53 km long and >3 km wide. Declassified CIA satellite imagery suggests this tornado occurred sometime in the summer of 1965.
There are numerous intense fires burning across British Columbia this evening including 2-3 that are producing pyrocumulonimbus clouds.

With this recent episode of rapid plume growth an area of deep rotation has developed at the fire head. Should watch to see if it further intensifies into a fire generated vortex.

The fire in Yajiang, Sichuan also appears to have produced a pyroCb or pyrocumulonimbus. This is the 1st pyroCb recorded in the northern hemisphere in 2024.

It looks like the
#ParkFire
has likely produced a fire generated tornadic vortex (a fire tornado) that extends at least up to Tilt 4 (4,800 ft).

Looks like there might be a multi-day severe weather event in China at the same time as the threat in the US. All hazards look possible including tornadoes.

17 years ago on this date a massive complex of bushfires was raging through the suburbs of Canberra. These fires were intense enough to generate a powerful pyrocumulonimbus and eventually out of this pyro-storm, a family of 4 tornadoes was born.

OTD in 1967 one of the worst tornado outbreaks in Minnesota history struck the Albert Lea area. 21 tornadoes touched down in IA/MN/SD. It had what was likely one of the most extreme tornado environments in MN history.

Pyroconvective activity is starting to ramp up at the

this afternoon. Radar is showing at 37 kft PyroCb that has developed over the fire. Some elevated showers are also approaching the fire from the south and could produce outflow winds.
Tomorrow, a very dangerous fire weather setup will unfold across the central Plains. An extremely critical risk has been issued by the SPC, which is basically the fire wx equivalent of a high risk.

Close-up satellite loop showing multiple wildfires breaking out today in central Chile. Some of the fires appear to have ran 15-25 km. This is probably the worst wildfire outbreak in Chile since 2017.

This could be a fire vortex as the radar imagery looks somewhat similar to past examples though I wouldn’t definitively call it one yet due to the bad velocity data.

Aerial imagery from the CSRD has revealed clear evidence of a tornadic fire vortex in Celista BC. Hundreds of trees were blown down along an erratic path. Note that a lot of the path is likely not covered by the current aerial imagery.
