Aside from being stunningly gorgeous, she is also phenomenally talented. She is great in Derry Girls and so charismatic in interviews and I would pretty much watch her in anything. Plus, she’s been very outspoken about demanding a ceasefire in Gaza. I just really love her.

Correlates directly with the line of thought that anyone can write a romance novel and that it doesn’t take effort or skill or isn’t a real craft. I still don’t get why there is so much derision towards stories of people kissing and falling in love and being joyful.

Julia Roberts say it's time to stop taking rom-coms for granted: "We didn’t appreciate the bumper crop of rom-coms we had [in the 1990s]. You don’t see all the effort because it’s fun and sweet and people are laughing and kissing and being mischievous.”

Seriously, where did all the sex go, in contemporary romance? Are books just being marketed for the purity enthusiasts on BookTok now?

Listen, I will die on the hill that romance novels require a HEA (or a HFN at the very least). But what happens when you’re reading a romance and all you want to do is yeet the MMC into the sun and wish the FMC found herself a partner more worthy?

Give me all your favorite romance novel sickbed caretaking scenes. I’ll start: The Devil and the Heiress by Harper St. George features 2 MCs who get into a carriage accident and he carries her for miles in the rain to seek help and then helps nurse her back to health for weeks.

If you’re gonna write a book that involves an entire suitcase full of sex toys and none of them ever get used in the book, what even is the point?

Always amazed when the MMC buys the FMC clothing and it’s somehow a perfect fit without him knowing anything about her body measurements beyond the fact that he mapped it in its entirety with his hands. And here is me, a 42 y.o. lady who still can’t figure out her pants size.

Randomly found myself thinking of that woman who had written a Reddit post about how she’d bought herself gaming equipment with her own money and her husband was furious over how much she’d spent and then ultimately it was revealed that he was cheating on her. She updated to say

Just explained the Folgers coffee “you’re my present this year” commercial to my husband and he cringed just based on my description and asked how any executive signed off on that commercial. And then I made him watch it and he is APPALLED. And also can’t stop laughing.

I know there was a lot of discourse about sex scenes before 60%, but if your MCs haven’t even met 60 pages into the book, I’d question whether the book was in fact a romance. It might be a book with a romantic subplot but that’s not necessarily the same as a romance novel.

Thank you to all the authors coming out to defend THAT book, this makes it so much easier for me to know who to add to my NEVER EVER READ list.

THIS. I’m reading it for the sex. Don’t waste time trying to shame me for that. I don’t believe there’s anything wrong with reading it for sex.

I am absolutely reading for the sex. I know why people were hoping on that tweet and that’s all well and good for y’all but I, personally, am reading romance novels for the sex.

I remember the rumors of them hooking up on set a while back and I strongly suspect all that was manufactured to make up for what appears to be a clear lack of on screen chemistry. Also, romcom movies are clearly in his wheelhouse. Not so much hers.

Aaand here comes Lauren Hough defending Sandra Newman’s transphobic book. Y’all remember Lauren Hough, right? A year ago, she started tweeting about GR reviewers who left her anything less than a 5 star on her book? White problematic authors do flock together….

I love a good old epilogue and far too many books don’t have them or it’s just like a few weeks later. No, I need one years down the line, solidifying that HEA like it’s etched in stone.

yes and it’s so funny bc I just saw a tweet complaining about romance epilogues always hitting the same HEA beats but I eat it up every time. I’m like 🥹 perfect, they’re still hot for each other 3 years and 2 kids later 🥹

I’m so tired of the “elevating the genre” take, there’s nothing wrong with romances that are just fun and frothy and yes, filthy.

"intelligence" "sophisticated" "conventions without being overly meta" jesus h christ it's okay for romances to just be fucking fun. it doesn't all have to be ~intelligent~ or ~sophisticated~ in order to be great. i'm so goddamn tired.
