Standing to be Labour MP for Great Grimsby & Cleethorpes | Renewables | UNISON, Coop, Fabians | Trustee for Shalom | Director Grimsby Community Energy | Dog-mum
Grimsby is a self-starting place and we’re not shy of graft but we need the right tools and leadership.
In Westminster, the Tories are in chaos — I’ll be the visible MP we deserve, embedded in our community, working tirelessly for it.

profile raised in press that don’t usually give Labour a hearing.
To win the next General Election, Labour needs support from people who voted Conservative before.
Most people are not politically tribal, just want what’s best for the country.
I know only too well the barriers that children in this country face.
That’s why as Labour’s next Education Secretary, I am determined to make sure that background will be no barrier to getting on.
Not the first, but just spoken to a lady on Nunsthorpe. Usually a Labour voter, but unable to this time because she hasn’t got any photo ID. No internet & not prepared to make a special trip into council for more ID.
We’re loving having these little squidges in the house. They’re 11 days old and bringing us JOY 🤩.
Will be a wrench to say goodbye when they get to 8 weeks.

A bit damp but high spirits in the East Marsh with the hard working, ever present Kay Rudd, who I hope will be elected in May.
BREAKING: Lee Anderson has been suspended as a Conservative MP following his comments about Sadiq Khan.
A few weeks ago he was Deputy Chair of the party.
RIP Prof Benjamin Zephaniah poet, Lincolnshire smallholder, actor, proud Brummie and the most peaceful anarchist. Was a pleasure to spend a little time with him back in 2016.
Grubby interview with Conservative peer Baroness Mone & husband. £61million pandemic profit from Govt, banked in low tax Isle of Man, into a tax-beneficial Trust for their family but she’s adamant she’s not benefitting 🤷♀️.
Not a hint of Nolan Principles in action.
Sad to hear that Rt Hon Betty Boothroyd has passed away. She was a fabulous Speaker of the House of Commons but she never forgot her roots, was proud to buy her slippers from Dewsbury Market even as a member of the House of Lords.
Labour in Local Govt has a plan to make sure residents in NE Lincs actually get their bins collected. Unlike under the Tories who have inexplicably allowed our collections to be suspended.
If people are looking for jobs in renewables, please follow my LinkedIn page (Melanie Onn) where I regularly share new opportunities as well as the latest news in the sector. In Humber the OWC event will be taking place beginning of May in Hull, a good place to start meeting ppl.

We’ve had enough of demonising people for using our country’s social security system. everyone’s finances are being squeezed right now, but we don’t turn on those with disabilities, little kids or who’re out of work and need a hand.
Telegraph is nasty & out of touch.

Millions being spent on this refurb for one of the chapels to be used as storage??? Taxpayers should see value for money and have access to the facilities they are funding - especially when it is a heritage project. Not somewhere to put spare chairs.

So lovely to see you. I know you’re Busy in Hull North too, so really appreciate you taking time out to come over and meet members to spur us on for the last couple of weeks.
Statement from Electoral Commission. They say overall the elections were “well run” but that voter- ID “posed a greater challenge for some groups in society and that some people were regrettably unable to vote as a result.”

At 16, I was placed in a bedsit with two older men who were both alcoholics. The place was dangerous and unsuitable for a 16 year old boy leaving care and starting an independent life. No one listened when I begged for somewhere safe to live. I ended up falling behind on my bills
NHS dentistry is dying a slow death. Emma, from Grimsby, had her NHS dentist close in 2020 and hasn't been able to register with one since. After an emergency appointment in Scunthorpe, she's been referred to hospital to have three teeth removed.
My question to the Minister 👇🏽
No wonder the Humber lost out to this important renewables supply chain company with dodgy deals like this being done up in the NE. We need a level playing field not a bear pit scrap to land businesses and grow local economies.
Just £96.79+VAT for the freehold of the entire SEAH site in Teesworks.
Don’t tell me this isn’t corrupt.
This site belongs to the people of Teesside. And it’s being gifted for nothing to a bunch of Houchen’s cronies.

One MP from the Tories' liberal wing found the National Conservative conference distasteful. A minister thought it crazed. A former aide daren’t be seen there. All of which suggests that the Conservative Party doesn’t know what it is, writes

This story was kept secret at the time it happened with the police caring more about their reputation than transparency. Ed Cooke then walked straight into a job with the Council, working directly with the public.
Rang MyDentist today (not been in over 3 years) to see if they have any NHS appts. Nope. And none on the horizon. All dentists self-employed, only doing private work, not required to take on any backlog of nhs patients & company not notifying patients about the situation.
@LouHaigh
So lovely to have you with us today it was a fab session with a strong reception from residents. Really appreciate your time when you’ve such a busy day. And doggo was v cute.
My Nan stopped sending me money in cards for eggs and to treat myself not because of my age (43 now) but because she kept addressing them wrong and the cards & cash were going to random houses. Cheers to all lovely Nans 🥂.
So this was a one-day policy?
Sunak really is desperate for new ideas if his Govt is rushing out ill-prepared, unworkable, undeliverable announcements.
An attempt by No 10 to promote Rishi Sunak’s policy of making everyone study maths until 18 has been quietly shelved after officials only obtained one case study — and he was against the idea
I am so very sorry to hear that Tony Lloyd has died today. He was so experienced and just seemed to glide across the surface effortlessly, with time and attention for everyone. He was enormously helpful and kind to me while in Parliament and his loss will be keenly felt.

Andy’s Man Club has relocated to Grant Thorold Park in the East Marsh more space to support men in Grimsby struggling with their mental health. Suicide is the no.1 killer of men under 35. Spread the word.
Disappointing to see budget details result in a massive turn off for Renewables investment.
Flip flopping policy has damaged investment potential in one of our most exciting sectors. This will not help ‘level up’ Grimsby.

So sorry we won’t be hearing your voice on Humber Beeb anymore. I always enjoyed chatting with you on your show - even when you challenged - which you did so professionally and thoroughly. Best of luck for what tomorrow holds.
This is happening in NE Lincolnshire, children being separated from their wider family, sent to Scotland with little prospect of regular in person contact or familial support. Kids homes closed. Not a flicker of concern about this from Council or MPs.
A national scandal years in the making led to the Govt setting up the MacAlister Review, which reported in May 2022. A year on & the heartbreaking, disgraceful way we treat our most vulnerable children continues to worsen. Time to get our priorities right.
A public consultation on the proposed ticket office closure at Barnsley train station closes this Friday.

Another violent attack on Macauley Street, two in the last couple of months. Feel sure it will be drugs related. Communities know where the dealers are, we need swifter action to take them out of properties and all the problems they bring.
