2 years ago today, I couldn’t walk.
Today I walked across the stage at St Paul’s Cathedral to collect my medical degree with honours.
Grateful to the village it took to get me here to Dr Catherine Dominic🫶
Here’s to the next chapter!
2021 has been personally one of the most difficult years of my life, but I feel extremely grateful today to be awarded a Distinction in my intercalated MSc in the Control of Infectious Diseases! Incredibly grateful to everyone that’s supported me through it and thus far 🥰
Can’t believe that I have secured an SFP offer to my first choice deanery with my first choice set of jobs! Ecstatic and so grateful to so many people, but especially my parents and my
@DrSGopaul
who’ve supported me all the way.
I’m going to be an academic!
Norwich here I come!
MSc Dissertation? Submitted it mate ✅
Thank you to my supervisor for tolerating my endless questions, to the LAMP4YAWS field team for collecting the data despite Covid-19, and to all
@lshtm
for an incredible year!

many students agree with your decision overall (as do I) but also think that it is unfair to bring this in for the currently intercalating cohort (‘23 graduates) - will you reconsider this and potentially delay to 2024 or 25
by the time I finish med school I’ll have spent 10 years’ worth (adding A levels and GCSEs) of May/June-times crying about having to revise whilst the weather outside is glorious
YOU GUYS I NEED TO STOP SELF-DEPRECATING I WAS THE FIRST PERSON IN THE TRIALS TO WIN BOTH MY BUZZER ROUNDS AND BE DECLARED OFFICIALLY ON THE TEAAAAM 🥳😭
Extremely disappointed to see that SFP will become randomised from 2025. Not only does this discredit many students’ hard work, it is hugely damaging to the future of clinical academia and discourages potential research excellence. I strongly hope the decision makers reconsider.
We fundamentally disagree with the decision by the UK Health bodies to move the Specialised Foundation Programme into the PIA system from 2025 and will fight for students by resisting this change in any way that we can.

Don’t usually tweet about publications but this one is such a milestone - from first learning about Noma and it’s devastating impact, to teaching myself to conduct bibliometric analysis it has been a journey. Very glad to be accepted by
@rstmh
and look forward to seeing it out!

women represent 44% of doctors but only 30% of consultants
in 2012, only 26.3% of clinical academics were women - inequality increases with seniority with women making up only 15.1% of professors
of 443 scientific boards, only 31% of UK participants were women
omg I’m actually so mortified how have I only just found out that LinkedIn shows you who views your profile LOL if I’ve been on your LinkedIn bare pls rest assured it’s for career inspiration not bc I’m a stalker omg how embarrassing 😂😭
3 lectures into dermatology and I’m so impressed with Barts! So much representation of diverse skin colours and types, and teaching us to identify conditions in different ethnicities 😍🥰
‘research...suggests that the SJT is a significantly stronger predictor of post graduate performance than the
EPM by all measures’
I’d love to see this where research is as the majority of people I’ve ever spoken to seem to think SJT is totally random
So I just officially found out I’m being allowed out to intercalate next year! So I guess I’m an MSc Control of Infectious Disease student
@LSHTM
for real now!!
Yes, medicine is competitive.
But it’s also a choice.
It’s a choice to keep things to yourself because of ‘competition’ vs signposting and helping others.
✨ We have nothing to lose (& much to gain) by helping our peers become the best possible doctors they can!
doctor: ok when you take the steroids you might get some heartburn, so be careful
me: takes them on an empty stomach, drinks coffee only afterwards, eats chilli oil from the pot with a spoon for fun and lies down instead of sitting upright
How do you stop feeling like you’re not doing enough?
Why has toxic productivity culture convinced us we can’t just sometimes do nothing and that it’s ok, it’s fine?
Stop measuring days by degree of productivity and start experiencing them by degree of presence

grateful to receive the Rod Flower Vacation Scholarship to work on exciting infection things this summer ☺️
my MSc summer project may no longer be abroad but I am trying to make the most of staying in the UK!

it’s not a pay RISE it’s pay restoration to undo years of damage from inflation - we graduate after 5+ years with ££ in debt + unable to make ends meet, to progress up those rungs in training you demonstrated comes with further costs/requirement NOT automatic
The years I got into academia happened to be the years that covid hit, so after all this time presenting online and virtually at international conferences I’m so glad to finally be heading out to Lisbon for
#ECCMID2022
!
Catch me there on Sunday in Poster Session 8 🦠🧫🔬
My last publication from med school was accepted today.
I can’t express how grateful I am to Dr Melzer for 4yrs consistent support, fostering my interest in ID/micro. A wonderful person & mentor.

everyone else in lockdown: learnt to paint, crochet, dance
me in lockdown: learnt if you order kids meals on JustEat they give you free fruitshoot and a lollipop
welcome the U-turn but this govt still needs to be held accountable for putting ppl through unnecessary anxiety, & what happens to those whose courses were filled up e.g medicine
This govt can keep U-turning, but I sincerely hope new young voters remember all this next election
On the 21st of June I will...still be acting like a responsible individual, avoiding large public gatherings and spaces, wearing a mask, practicing effective hand hygiene and staying home and safe wherever possible.
I’m actually so fed up with MedTwitter; you can say the most unproblematic thing and someone’s always gonna read it wrong.
Bye bye henceforth you will find me tweeting objective facts only.
Excited to be selected for the

Absolutely delighted to hear feedback for our PSA course. 🥳
Grateful to Norwich and Cambridge medical schools prescribing leads for supporting us to start this in parallel to the official curriculum, and to make it national with 1200+ signups and 200+ attendees each session.
How timely that I just got an email from
@ESLIHConference
saying that my workshop proposal on Intersectionality & Leadership has been accepted.
Look forward to educating and advocating on the subject.
Understanding intersectionality is also key to diversifying leadership.

has been accepted for presentation at the

NFDPD in January.
As always, managing to make everything I do ID-related! 🦠
I have never felt as useful and welcome as I have in GP - seeing 8 patients a day by myself, running telephone clinics to lighten the same-day team workload especially in the Strep A times, coming up with management plans! I can see the appeal!
my Masters dissertation ethics finally got approved after 2 rounds of corrections and I’m so excited for exams to be over so I can focus on it over summer! grateful for getting a topic I’m really enthusiastic to work on!
is it just me or does anyone else take a phat nap inside the MRI scanner
(as a patient, not as a med student obvs) (although that could be a good contender for best place to cry in hospital as an F1)
I’m so upset, this is honestly horrible. A-level results day is a nightmare without your results being downgraded based on postcode lotteries and messed up stats. Everyone I know at private schools has received the grades they were predicted/higher! This is blatantly unfair
I’m at a school in East London today where 47% of students have had results downgraded from teachers predictions. Some predicted Cs have been given a U. Some A* predictions reduced to a B.
The real question that we should be asking to medical students/trainees who want to leave the UK - what is it that clinched your decision and how can the system do better to keep you here
Delighted to present our work from Eastern Pathology Alliance +

Our healthcare workers are incredible.
Its been a long time since I’ve felt as uncomfortable in my skin in the UK, as I did today being the only person wearing a mask in the supermarket.
Apparently Covid is over and it’s just a long summer now and I missed the memo lads 🙄
