The sun has set on ticket sales for the Maryland Renaissance Festival for 2022. There are no more tickets available for any of the remaining dates of this year's show. Thank you to all our wonderful patrons for visiting.
REFUNDS of the weekend and single day passes for these two days will be processed as quickly as we are able. We know people travel from out of town or have special celebrations tied to their visits and we are sorry. This storm ultimately was enough to produce this result.

Due to the projected path of the tropical storm depression moving into the Mid-Atlantic area the Maryland Renaissance Festival will be closed for Saturday, September 23, 2023.

Went really fast!!! Tickets sold out for MD Renaissance Festival for October 22, 2022. Only date left is October 23rd. After then it is history. (Festival has no more tickets to sell for any sold-out date. Only acquire from people you know. Scammers abound.)
If it is announced that the festival will not open tickets will automatically be refunded for that date, including the handling and processing fees of any ticket for that date already refunded by a customer using the refund option. Please allow 7-10 days for refund.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) forecast at 10:00 AM Friday for the next three days for the festival location. Updates on the festival will be posted later today.

Any tickets for this 9/23/23 only will be refunded in full automatically. Ticket holders do not need to contact the festival. Customers who had their tickets refunded by the deadline will receive the balance of the processing and handling fee that was not part of the refund.
7/30/1619 Elizabeth had passed, James 1 on throne and a little group in the colony of America in a place called Virginia holds the first elected governmental body meeting. Just some Americans having a little gathering, what could come of it? All is well, nothing to see here.

This day 1053 Harold becomes Earl of Wessex; 1066 Edward the Confessor dies without heir and Harold is chosen from 4 to be King. Within 9 mos. he is killed (arrow thru eye according to Bayeaux Tapestry) by William the Conqueror who takes throne. GoT has nothing on real history!

Oops. Anne of Cleves marriage to Henry annulled today, 1540. They'd only wed Jan. 6th. Reportedly not consummated, she was not as promoted in the arranged marriage. Received a generous settlement, referred to by Henry as "our sister" thereafter and outlived all his other wives.
Little of note on this date in English history, but yesterday's date in 1483 Edward V (age 12) succeeds his father but is never crowned. He disappears after incarceration in Tower of London with his younger brother Richard known as the "Princess in the Tower". Presumed murdered.

Not RenFest period but this day 1819 Queen Victoria born. Victorian age known as prudish although in her diary she says of her wedding night, "I NEVER, NEVER spent such an evening!!!...bliss beyond belief." Had 9 kids in 17 years.
Tomorrow's date 1519 Henry Fitzroy born. Only acknowledged bastard of Henry VIII. (Fitzroy means "son of King") Married at 14, died at 17, short life like his half-brother Edward who died at 15 but their half sister would live 69 years and rule 44; Elizabeth I.

This date 1531 Henry VIII orders Catherine to leave Windsor, soon secretly marries Anne Boleyn. Well, that was a bit too much for Pope Clement VII who excommunicates Henry this date in 1533.

This date in England 1581 Elizabeth I knights Sir Francis Drake aboard the Golden Hind and in 1406 Robert III, King of Scotland dies. His brother, the Duke of Albany becomes Regent since Robert's son James was in English captivity.
Today 1533 Henry VIII appoints Thomas Cromwell Sec. of St. Didn't end well. TC talked H8 into wedding Anne of Cleves. H8 found her plain, no consummation. Lasted 7 mos., Jan. 6 to July 9 1540. Took 3 weeks till H8 had TC beheaded for his roll in marriage. H8 later missed TC.
7/12/1543 Catherine Parr becomes Henry's last Queen. A distinct individual, she gives H. almost 4 good years, published author, takes good care of H.'s children, ends up married 4 times, dies in childbirth at age 36.
7/28/1540 Henry weds Catherine Howard19 days after annulment to Anne of Cleaves. Henry is 46, Catherine 16 or 17. Great joy. Catherine removed as Queen 11/23/41, had a tryst with someone closer in age. Beheaded 2/13/1542 age 19. Ends poorly for everyone. Not so joyous.

Slow past week in English history but this date in 1532 Sir Thomas More resigned as Lord Chancellor, could not morally reconcile Henry VIII claim of state superiority over religion. Still, Hank liked him but grew weary over time and More was executed July 6, 1535.

Kilt wearers rejoice! This day 1603 James IV arrives in London. Elizabeth died March 24, James declared King same day, starts out April 5, takes a month, Elizabeth buried April 28 (more than a month lying in State). Coronated July 25 and is James I.
