HUGE thank you to
@MomsDemand
,
@Everytown

Today we witnessed history as the Senate voted to confirm the first Black woman to sit on the highest court in the land. Congratulations to Ketanji Brown Jackson and the entire Biden Administration on this historic day!
#SCOTUS
I am so proud to be the 37th Mayor of San Diego, but I am more excited about what we will accomplish together. Because together, I know we can build a San Diego
#ForAllofUs
. Let's get to work.
#BREAKING
My bill to regulate concealed carry in California is OFFICIALLY headed to
@JerryBrownGov
. Another big thank you to
@MomsDemand
,
@Everytown
, and everyone who supported this common-sense gun reform that will help make our communities safer.
#AB2103
The late
@Padres
Chairman Peter Seidler lived his values and acted on his compassion for people experiencing homelessness every single day.
I’ve started the process of renaming one of the streets leading to
@PetcoPark
“Peter Seidler Way” to honor Peter’s legacy.
#SOTCSD
Governor
@GavinNewsom
took action on several bills that continue CA’s long-standing leadership as a state of inclusion and refuge, and
#AB3228
to strengthen accountability around conditions of confinement at private, for-profit detention facilities.
#BREAKING
the State Senate just officially passed my bill,
#AB2103
, to regulate concealed carry in California. We are now one step away from sending this bill to
@JerryBrownGov
!
A BIG thank you to
@MomsDemand
,
@Everytown
, and everyone who supported this common sense gun reform.
Great to spend some time with
@SecretaryPete
to discuss how our city and region are prepared to take advantage of the historic bipartisan infrastructure law and make major transportation investments.
You shouldn’t have to flag down a Target employee to unlock a plexiglass cabinet just so you can get toothpaste.
We should be locking up criminals, not laundry detergent!
#SOTCSD
In San Diego, eliminating minimum parking requirements for new homes built close to transit has resulted in more housing. I urge the state Legislature to vote yes on AB2097 to end parking minimums for transit-oriented development across the state.
We announced our intention to open our first Safe Sleeping site at 20th and B on July 1.
But we aren’t waiting that long. We are opening the site tomorrow.
This will provide another safe place for people living in tents to go while also connecting them to services.
#ForAllofUs
We’ve cleared encampments near Commercial and National Avenue in
#EastVillage
.
It’s not compassionate to leave people out on the streets.
We will continue the work of getting people out of unsafe encampments, into shelters, and on a path to permanent housing.
#ForAllofUs
Let’s be really clear: the lack of affordable housing in San Diego is central to nearly every challenge we face as a city.
Homelessness. High cost-of-living. Recruiting and retaining talent, young people, and businesses.
There’s only one way to address this: Build. More. Homes.
Today, I signed an executive order to suspend parking enforcement and direct stronger enforcement for those blatantly and egregiously defying local and state health orders. We must take
#COVID19
seriously and protect each other. Read the full order here: .
The encampments make it hard for kids walking to school. They are forced into the street to get around them. Plus, they're seeing things kids should never see.
The Unsafe Camping Ordinance will prohibit encampments near schools and in other sensitive areas.

The City is leasing a former motel in
#BarrioLogan
that will shelter 42 unhoused families — approximately 164 people — while we work to connect them to permanent homes.
As long as people are living unsheltered in San Diego, we'll keep working to get them off the streets.
Congratulations to our San Diego
@Padres
on defeating
@Mets

Now — as always — let’s go beat L.A.!

Thank you Governor for recognizing our efforts in San Diego and for your leadership in making this possible. We will defeat
#COVID19
by working collaboratively with all levels of government and with partners like
@UCSDHealth
and
@Padres
to help us distribute the vaccine quickly.
.
@PetcoPark
was CA’s first mass vaccination site.
In less than a month, the site has administered over 100,000 vaccinations -- averaging 5,000 people a day, 7 days a week.
Terrific work under the leadership of

@MayorToddGloria

@UCSDHealth

@Padres
and more!
So proud to announce
@GavinNewsom

I'm joining fellow California Mayors to call on the State to prioritize vaccinating teachers and school employees if school districts agree to reopen once vaccines are offered. Our children, working families, and economy deserve a clear strategy to reopen schools safely.
Grateful to have Governor

He assured me that the State of California is monitoring, and the full weight of the state government will be with our city before, during, and after this storm.
Thank you, Governor.

I couldn't be prouder to have Kirby Brady as San Diego's first chief innovation officer. Her unique experiences, creativity, drive and passion for civic innovation will help our City harness the data and technology we need to provide world-class service in every neighborhood.
