For academics, talking about Palestine is not political activism (only). It's about intellectual, historical, theoretical honesty. When MENA academics avoid discussing Palestine publicly but do discuss their scholarship on other parts of the region-it is intellectually dishonest

That people are are worried about someone they care about, but i see academic research being used as an excuse to do whatever you want. The “pursuit of knowledge” is not carte blanche. These regulations came on the backs of colonized & vulnerable people who were often put in more

Lebanon today is not "just like" the crisis in Egypt, Iraq, or Turkey, or Iran. Those economies are large & have industrial capacity, resources/infrastructure we could only dream of. Not all horrible things are horrible in the same way. More comparison please, & less equivalence

22 years ago today, the resistance liberated Lebanon from brutal Israeli occupation. To my mind, 2000, not 1990, marks the beginning of the post war era. South Lebanon IS LEBANON, and cannot be separated from national narratives. Every year on this day I am proud to be Lebanese

I am going to look at the sea today and become who I am. I will live this emptiness, this fullness that Etel Adnan leaves. A world made by writers, artists, thinkers - a life of making worlds. I will think of her partner Simone Fattal, and remember that love is the twin of loss

i'm watching & waiting to see how mainstream news in Lebanon & region honors Etel Adnan by honoring & recognizing the woman she built & lived a life with. Tired of the lonely solitary queer woman trope, a trope made by those who can't fathom the fullness of life between women

This is what the US government wants college students & all of us to shut up about & accept until it is over. To protect this criminal, foreign state they will ban ticktock, hold hearings, end the first amendment, burn even the idea of international law to the ground, & go to war

Israel commits a massacre in #Rafah this evening, dropping several 2,000 pound bombs on civilian tents and #UN compounds, murdering dozens of civilians seeking shelter. This was Israel’s response to the @CIJ_ICJ ruling Friday that it must halt its offensive on Rafah.

and what about New Jersey, where he lived, or California, where he was born? What is the town of Fairview saying? Did the intrepid reporter go to Bergen County and ask some random "locals" what they thought? What a ridiculous, empty, racist article

The history of #Lebanon is also a history of #Palestine , the geography of Lebanon is also a geography of Palestine, the futures of Lebanon are also futures of Palestine & the people of Lebanon are also the people of Palestine. We should reflect on this instead of focusing

the worst its been for queers in Lebanon in my lifetime. An unholy alliance of christian & muslim parties, political leaders & militias & secular branches of the state. Incitement to violence wrapped in anti-imperialism. As pathetic as it is dangerous. It does not get better

Dr. Nadera Shalhoub-Kevorkian's family and colleagues would like it shared widely that while detained, Israeli police subjected her to torture and interrogated her. They spent an hour asking about an article she wrote in 2020. They shackled her feet and hands, put her in
