Disabled-led collective of New Yorkers organizing to fight COVID through mutual aid, political education, and direct action (formerly COVID Solidarity NYC)
Happy (angry) year 5 of the pandemic to all those who celebrate (still give a shit)! Please support our disabled-led collective so we can continue to distribute essential resources throughout 2024.
@CDCDirector
Hi Mandy, as
@TogetherWeMask
has pointed out, the lack of color contrast means this graphic very clearly fails to meet the federal standards for accessible electronic communications. This is a legal requirement!
2023 has seen the loss of many vital national resources, including now
@projectn95
, but it's also seen the emergence of local community-led initiatives all across the country. Anyone can start a mask bloc, and it's not too late!!
Mask Bloc NYC (formerly COVID Solidarity NYC) is a disabled-led autonomous collective of NYers organizing to fight COVID & state abandonment through mutual aid, accessible political education, direct action. Our approach is rooted in disability justice & harm reduction frameworks

Just wanted to update that several Texas-based mask blocs are working on this and it's looking good so far! Apparently they've gotten a lot of messages about it, so they're asking that folks only DM if they can offer concrete logistics help
What is a mask bloc?
A mask bloc is an autonomous local disability justice group that distributes masks and other COVID-prevention resources to people who need them. Anyone can start a mask bloc anywhere in the world, and the movement is growing.
Thank you to
@betsyladyzhets
and
@thesicktimes
for this great, thorough story, and for the shoutout to the mask bloc movement!
You can see the full list of mask distribution groups linked in the article (compiled by

We voted to change from COVID Solidarity NYC to Mask Bloc NYC to reflect this history & to align ourselves with the growing movement. We also want to acknowledge the multiple ways that masks keep us safe—from COVID, pollution, state surveillance, & more. Need masks? Let us know!

For proper risk communication, the map for COVID-19 levels should use a wide spectrum of colors to increase clarity and attention grabbing. Colorblindness is a common disability. Using distinctively different hues will increase accessibility to ALL.
I also got so frustrated during my virtual appointment to get Paxlovid, with NYC Health + Hospitals, hearing the provider tell me (multiple times!) that I only had to isolate for five days, and could go out again after that. (4/8)
.
@maskblocnyc
has been bringing fresh air to the Big Apple 🍎 by connecting the NYC community with high-quality COVID PPE!
Support their work (and spite Eric Adams 🤡) by sending money for more masks their way via C

Does anyone have info about the fit/quality of these KN95s from MedSup Canada? We may have an opportunity to get them in bulk but want to verify that they are decent enough quality to give to the community
We will continue to message that N95s are the most protective option, but there is huge demand for KN95s especially for protests and other group settings, and our current stock is running low
Time-sensitive local request: Is anyone near Schemmerhorn x Court St. and able to check if big lot of covid tests is still there, and send us a pic of the expiration date? Thank you!!
Our goal is to raise $15,000, budgeted as follows:
❤️ $4,000 for N95s
💚 $3,000 for high-quality KN95s
💙 $2,000 for rapid COVID tests
💜 $6,000 for additional expenses such as gas, shipping, storage, printing, packaging, and rapid response
We're about to close out our collective fundraiser (working with a bunch of other mask blocs across the country) and buy 456,000 masks for our communities!! If you can, please chip in to help us get all the transport costs covered. Thank you!

For Paxlovid, would try Dr. B () or . Another option is PlushCare but they're $$. Metformin you can get from but it will likely take at least a week to process and ship, unfortunately

Hi hi! So sorry you're dealing with this. We can try to help you get Paxlovid through the city or online if you want to DM. Can also help out with emergency supplies (masks, tests, etc.) if you're needing to isolate within a household
