What do you when an eagle grabs a fish, swallows it whole and then makes a sudden bee line for your face? You keep rolling video!! Eagles have a weird smell. I found out as it flew inches from my nose.

A few weeks ago I was treated to an Osprey flying right through a rainbow and I shared an image from that experience. Yesterday morning it happened again and this time I was fortunate enough to get it on video.
On a scale of 1-10, 10 being perfect, I have to award this eagle with a 12. 😃 If you ever wanted to see a perfect example of an eagle’s ability to fly, grab a fish and eat it in mid air, I think this is it. What would you give this eagle on a scale of 1-10?
We hiked 12 miles along a muddy trail and then stood for five hours in the rain waiting for this magical bird to appear. I’m just kidding. Someone called my guide and said, “Hey, there is a resplendent quetzal on my front porch. Do you want to come see it!” Seriously.
It’s not every day that you see a flounder perfectly displayed inside a pelican’s pouch. The fish’s head is at the bottom of the pouch and if you look closely, you can even see the flounder’s eyes. 2 seconds later, the pelican rolled that flounder up like a burrito and swallowed
My first time seeing a baby sloth, and I’m 100% certain the mother came down out of the tree just to show me her new baby. I mean look at those smiling faces! If I didn’t take this photo myself, I would think it was fake.
There are so many beautiful birds out there but coming face to face with the Resplendent Quetzal is a magical experience. For perspective this gorgeous bird is over 3 feet or 1 meter with the tail and they regard you with a fearless curiosity that leaves you in complete awe.
The moment the Resplendent Quetzal on the other end of your lens decides that you the photographer are far more interesting than its food source, a tiny avocado. What a great privilege it is to not only see this beautiful bird but to be able to capture video!
This is why this bird is called a pelican, not a pelican’t. This is the first time I’ve been able to capture the whole process in one take. Now you know why pelicans have such big pouches.
Bird butt photos are typically frowned upon but this one is an exception to the rule. Osprey takes a fish and a Blue Crab for a ride. How did this end? I don’t know but I watched the spectacle until the Osprey was out of sight. The crab never let go.
Have you ever had an eagle look you right in the eye? You have now! This might be my favorite bald eagle clip to date. Seeing this bird snatch a Hake fish from a whirlpool at close range was awesome. Glad that I can share it and show you!
Ospreys in this area have an eagle alarm call. When they spot an eagle coming, they make a very specific sound to alert all the other ospreys in the area. Every time I hear that call, I know something crazy is about to happen.
I think this might be the most highly detailed image I’ve ever captured of an eagle’s face. The light was perfect! The wet dirty feathers have depth and contrast!! The piercing eye! That magnificent hooked beak splattered with dried blood and fish scales! 😍😍
This is an older video of mine but I love to repost it just for the sheer “awe” value it holds. Animals love to have fun too and this video of a flounder who is “hanging fin” proves that point quite dramatically.
Have you ever seen an eagle catch 2 fish at the same time? This was a first for me and the eagle seemed just as surprised as I was!!! I guess everyone enjoys a two for one deal! 🤪
Have you ever seen such agility? This adult bald eagle dodges an incoming attack and somehow still manages to swallow its fish all while flying?? What kind of creature is this beauty? Talk about survival of the fittest.
I’ve learned from posting on social means that some people don’t think there are catfish in the ocean. There are plenty and this Osprey managed to hoist out a big Gafftopsail catfish. Glad I’m not a fish, especially a catfish.
Time to bust out your best dance moves and do “The Funky Osprey.” I’ve tried to capture this for a very long time but the Ospreys get so nervous on the ground. You can never get close. This one didn’t mind at all and even seemed to enjoy the limelight.
