Mari. Black, 26, bi, autistic, womanist, she/her. multifandom account. I call out anti blackness from the Degrassi fandom and show so dni if that makes you mad.
This is an account that will always call out the misogynoir against the black female characters on Degrassi from both the show and the fandom so if you don’t like Liberty, Hazel, Chantay, Marisol, and Shay do not follow me because this isn’t a safe space for you. Idiots DNI.
She was the only nerdy character treated like that and it was because she was black. Clare Edwards was dressing in granny fits nearly 24/7 and had multiple boys even FRIENDS going to war over her.
For Autism Acceptance Day, I want to give special love to Connor DeLaurier. A lot of Degrassi fans (mostly ⚪️ fans) like to claim that he is an inaccurate representation of autism but as a black autistic woman who grew up with S8-S14 of the show,
@AJSaudin
’s portrayal of the
I’ve seen tweets from black women with “protect BW” in their bios cry about how she’s too unattractive to play opposite of a basic white man who permanently looks 15 and it’s embarrassing
Unfortunately the actor that played K.C. Guthrie has said that he didn’t feel safe on set and the adults involved in production let him and the other actors be sexualized by grown women in the fandom at that time.
You know who’s not coming out with allegations? The cast from Degrassi Next Generation. That was a well oiled machine of a cast and crew. Then again it’s Canada I’m sure child labor has its own strict laws and regulations.
Female characters who are mean don’t need to be excessively brutalized in other to be redeemed. If they spend a whole season being nasty, have them receive the same accountability and authentic growth male characters do.
Adamo is so problematic for portraying a character that ditched one of Degrassi’s coolest girls for his mom’s pahstah sauce but yall be good with that little show
TW: Rape
“Craig was the one who cheated on his girlfriend but no one talks about that, right?” was iconic but I actually think her giving a rape victim her purity ring back and telling her that rape shouldn’t count as your virginity being taken is very progressive for its time.
Shay’s virginity loss plot was the best because it was the only time a black losing her virginity was portrayed as sacred and special on Degrassi. Liberty losing her virginity was off screen and she wasn’t even the focus of it being the reason she got pregnant. Any plots of Hazel
Day 22: Virginity
Degrassi tackled the complex realities of virginity when it comes to young girls multiple times. Some were very well done while others could have been done better. Who had the best storylines related to losing their virginity? Whose could have been done better?
Honestly my favorite quote from her. She was wrong for helping Craig cheat but it's weird how y'all will bash her and Marisol and call them sluts and hoes but not Craig and KFC to this day
Happy birthday to
@The_Munro
and happy heavenly birthday to Jahmil French, who played two of my Degrassi kings, Eli Goldsworthy and Dave Turner. Thank you to you both for playing such complex, layered, fun, and charming characters 💜🤍💜
Make your gay characters complex. Problematic. Nasty fuckers who do bad things. Unapologetic. Evil. Manipulative. Unlikeable. Three dimensional. Villainous. Not just the ‘cute’ teens holding hands.
As I keep saying, they only existed to make Liberty look bad and JT kinda a dick because the way he kept describing Mia vs Liberty doesn’t sit right with me unpopular opinion.
Degrassi did this twice and then when they almost got it right the third time, they had the victim never apologize to his best friend for reporting the teacher and instead he continued to blame her for why he can’t have “epic romances”
This is what I mean when I say that black girls are shamed for not having features that are heavily sexualized (big lips, big asses, curves). When we do have those features, we are painted as "fast" even if we're children but if we don't, we are mocked for them. Our bodies (1)
“Beyoncé is mad overhyped” “Y’all treat Beyoncé like she’s God” “Beyoncé ain’t all that” “Beyoncé will never be MJ” “Am I the only person who doesn’t care that Beyoncé’s going on tour?”
So this might get tomatoes thrown at me but Spinner spent most of his time on the show not being ambitious about much of anything except managing the Dot and maybe that’s why he ultimately didn’t work out with heavily ambitious girls like Paige, Manny, Jane, Darcy etc but….
TW: Suicide
It seems that Jahmil committed suicide. Mental health is a battle that I’m fighting with every day and this is devastating to think about. Please take care of yourself and check on your loved ones....

I was a freshman in high school and I was never the same politically after this. It’s when I realized that America living in a “post-racial” society was a lie and a silly dream.
