"You had a movement with very beautiful rhetoric, that didn't actually want to engage with the tangible, hard work of doing anti-racism—of doing progress."

Christian fundamentalism threatens South Korea just like Islamic fundamentalism threatens Indonesia, but one big problem there: anti-feminism is stronger among young men in their 20s than among older men.
@pepi_blyton
1. Normophobia, fear of being normal, of being basic.
2. Too many weird videos, also hanging with weird people.
3. Queer theory teaches that being literally monstrous is liberating, while being healthy is oppressive.

@USWNT
What's important is how the Americans hugged the Thais after the game, and I believe they meant no harm - it's just business. The score didn't diminish any of my pride for
#Tha
in representing SE Asia. The critics of the USWNT were mostly American men, after all.
@glosswitch
"Trans activism is incompatible with feminism in general, but it is especially incompatible with anti-rape activism"
That explains why queer activists support rapists, in their own cities and overseas.
100 consecutive days in
@duolingo
. My 100th day is English day, because you're never good enough to stop learning (also I want to get my second Duo trophy)
Comprehensive report on China's "zero dollar tour" - tourists eating at Chinese-owned restaurants, then shuffled from shops to shops, some unrelated to Balinese culture (like pillow & latex shops). All payments in WeChat app, so all sales bypass Indonesian financial system.
@HadleyFreeman
Eventually this is about throwing poor women to predators in the name of progress. Girlboss feminism but make it queer.
Thank you for calling this out.
I imagine the brewing tension in that year: The Netherlands had been occupied by Germany, and the Chinese population had known Japanese atrocities in China. Communists knew fascist Japanese were worse than the colonial gov, Indo-Dutch had nowhere to go.
Three groups on Indo Twitter that seem to dislike Women's March: Religious dudes (because of "lgbt agenda"), weebs ("Chatime sjws") and libertarians ("actually," from the men, "loonie lefts" from the women)
@wesyang
Thoughts about the logic of the decision:
1. German establishments see that any conviction of a refugee is an admission of policy failure. The policy shall not fail.
2. Any conviction for the men will "be weaponized by the AfD", and no judge wants to blamed for that.
@BDSixsmith
Also other Indonesians 🇮🇩. Always love foreigners appreciating our cultures (and the girl is Indonesian per community note) and can't understand people who have problems with it.
@jonkay
Yes, it's a song of this Toronto metal band. Canes are either weapon or a prop associated with the fandom; but I've heard that some SE Asian Gen Z white collar workers say they need a cane to walk, attributing it to long covid or other illness.
@HJoyceGender
As a non-Westerner, I'm also annoyed with the fashionable opinion (like in the article's introduction) that gender binary and norms are "Western". They are universal and have nothing to do with European colonial past.
@sarahditum
"Penny claims not to be a woman, and claims furthermore that women have no shared qualities as a group, so why identify with feminism at all?"
There. Before saw this link I read the Guardian review by Rachel Cooke, and the headlines sum up these editing problems.
@aytchellesse
Any idea why they attacked the Asia Centre Building?
They would say "Because Swanston Street is the most visible site" but there's a pattern of activists vandalising premises that don't have anything to do with their causes.
A grim reminder that people under 25 never experienced the 1990s. It's straight 9/11, Great Recession, and angry immigrants for them. Some turn woke, many others don't.
But rizz, charisma, is as important as ever, especially on TT.
@moveincircles
Read Wikipedia article on child marriage and interesting finding there: Northern Europe, especially England, is always unusual with its late marriage culture.
The English common law criminalised sex with pre-puberty girls as early as 1275.
@Afutami
I also see that liberals are more self-critical and check themselves a lot, and less cynical. Conservatives are not beyond hypocritical message, not bothered with inclusion, & are fine with bots & buzzers.
@LisaSelinDavis
Asra Nomani is a Muslim immigrant and a friend of Daniel Pearl. She's been portrayed by Archie Panjabi in an Angelina Jolie's movie, so I think she's quotable.

Seriously the ferocity of Jokowi's conservative haters on Kaesang's clothes (while there are comparisons to Sandi's running outfit in another funeral) shows what they think of him: a Chinese lover, a fake Muslim, a rude peasant.

I know dominion Christians attempt to influence all branches of all the military, but is there a reason they are more successful in the Air Force? Strong foundation in the Academy or particular backgrounds of AF officers and recruits?
@pschofie79
1. Not a dumb question for me. A good way to give the big picture.
2. Much better, considering this decade students had called Anne "dead white girl".
3. Japanese students loved visiting the house and they read the diary, but couldn't link it to Japan in WW2

Just read the story and wow those "Why won't you read the book" people were wild.
Also glad The Atlantic published this kind of story in summer 2020, I hope they are still willing to.
