Indiana ācanāt affordā to give our public school teachers a raise but it can afford to send hundreds of millions of dollars to private schools. š
This IS the goal of āschool choiceā - use the voucher program to DEFUND public schools and subsidize certain private companies.
In Indiana, the average school voucher recipient has never attended public school and comes from a family earning more than $99,000 a year.
The cost of the program has soared and is projected to reach $600 million this year.
via
@indystar
Indiana has turned the school voucher program into a $300 MILLION handout to private companies.
But somehow, we donāt have enough $ to give public school teachers raises, or provide universal pre-k, or give students free lunches.
Thanks
@indystar
for the report on vouchers
Indiana is the second most polluted state. When I was at the AGās office, we had an attorney dedicated to enforcing violations issued by IDEM. When Hill was elected he got rid of that position. If we want to clean up Indiana, we need to put teeth back into our pollution laws
Indiana needs to finally legalize marijuana. Doing so would:
-eliminate unnecessary arrests of non-violent Hoosiers
-create a legal alternative to opioids
-bring in millions of $ of tax revenue that could be used to fund our public schools
Itās 2022. Itās time to act like it.
I talked to a lot of Gen Z voters that think Rās HATE them. They lived w/ school shootings and active shooter drills. Rās shrugged. Climate change is destroying the planet. Rās shrugged. Housing is unaffordable. Rās called them lazy. Why would they vote for those same Rās?
The Indiana General assembly is focusing on banning books and attacking LGBTQ community. What they should be focusing on:
-universal pre-k
-free school breakfast and lunch
-eliminating textbook fees
-increasing our high school graduation rate
You know, ACTUALLY helping kids.
Huh, thatās weird. After spending fifty years wanting to outlaw abortion, none of the Republicans in the Indiana General Assembly are mentioning banning abortion in their ads or mail campaign. Itās almost like they know that taking away a womanās bodily autonomy is unpopularā¦.
Indiana - our Attorney General is targeting teachers.
Through fearmongering, he wants only his views and beliefs taught.
Heās using the threat of indoctrination to indoctrinate.
All at the expense of our teachers.
No no no. YOUR parental rights mean YOU can prevent YOUR kid from receiving mental health care in school. YOUR parental rights donāt let YOU tell ME that MY kid canāt receive mental health care in school.
Quit using parental rights to impose YOUR beliefs on other peopleās kids
Hey Indiana Democrats - there is a lot to be upset about but want some good news? We only need to pick up 4 seats next year to break the Republican supermajority in the House.
And I plan on being one of those 4.
Letās get to work.
Hey
#indiana
letās talk about something.
#ParentalRights
means that you have the right to raise your child as you see fit - not your neighborās child
Like the majority of Hoosiers, I want Hoosiers to be make their own choices - not extremist legislators.
That means:
-letting people choose who they want to marry,
-letting parents decide what books their kids can read, and
-letting women make their own medical decisions.
In a landmark decision, the Alaska Supreme Court ruled Friday that partisan gerrymandering is unconstitutional under the Alaska Constitutionās equal protection doctrine.
Hoosiers - please read this article. One of the reasons Indiana is ranked as a good state for business is bc how little workers are paid.
So when a politician brags about Indianaās business rankings, that person is actually bragging about how little Hoosiers get paid.
NEW: Dick Uihlein, the Illinois Republican mega donor who has backed conservative political candidates across the country, just gave Mike Braun $1m for his gubernatorial bid.
Okay
#Indiana
this is serious. This is our equivalent of Florida suing Disney.
@AGToddRokita
is suing IU Health because he disagrees with them politically. This is about one thing: stifling dissent.
Indiana, we have to stand up to this. Our freedom of speech is on the line.
Today, we filed a lawsuit on behalf of the people of Indiana against IU Health and IU Healthcare Associates for their failure to properly report, review, and enforce HIPAA and Indiana law violations. Watch:
Itās
#bannedbooksweek
and I am running against the
#Indiana
representative that wrote the bill that bans books and could throw teachers and librarians in jail.
Something crazy I found while knocking on doors and talking to voters: Indiana Republicans have insulated themselves from fault. Voters thought anything bad with the economy was the federal govtās fault, not the stateās Rep. supermajority or Governor.
It's official! I filed my paperwork to run for House District 24 and bring Hoosiers' voices back to our government. As a foster parent, an attorney and a lifelong Hoosier, I'm prepared to work to earn your trust and defend what is right.
Indiana - when you donāt vote, you are letting a small number of people decide how ALL of us live.
Register to vote (or confirm you are registered) at:
If
@GovHolcomb
wants a business to stay in IN, he offers subsidies and tax breaks.
If he wants people to stay, he just asks-no help for affordable education, childcare, or healthcare.
If he cared about Hoosiers as much as corporations, he wouldnāt have to beg people to stay
Governor Eric Holcomb shared a simple suggestion as he delivered a commencement speech at Purdue University over the weekend.
āStay in Indiana,ā he said. Watch the full speech here:
Indiana - letās talk about freedom of religion.
Separation of church and state is a protection for your freedom of religion.
And yes, thatās my dog scratching at the door in the background.
We should do the same in Indiana.
As a foster parent, I have heard many heartbreaking stories from kids about how they would go hungry. For some, a good meal at school was the only meal they could count on.
Practicing Hoosier Hospitality has to include feeding our children.
When someone says "school choice" they are really saying "defund public schools."
Lawmakers are using vouchers to take money from public schools - GUTTING public schools and jeopardizing the futures of 90% of Hoosier kids.
There is always a bright side to everything. My seven year old daughter has been saying to everyone today āgood news: daddy got second place!!ā ššš
The legislative maps drawn by Republicans are unconstitutional. The people of Wisconsin have known this for years, and now the Wisconsin Supreme Court reaffirms this truth. No longer will partisan gerrymandering obstruct the will of the people.
Indiana should be an automatic voter registration state too.
The right to vote is fundamental, and politicians that make it harder to vote only do so to hold power. Any explanation they offer otherwise is purely a smokescreen.
Indiana law sets the minimum wage at the current federal minimum.
Thatās $7.25. Thatās not enough.
Indiana MUST raise its minimum wage.
Indiana shouldnāt have to rely on the federal govt to tell us to protect our own workers. Hoosiers deserve more from our General Assembly
Today I was proud to be the first Democrat woman to file for
@CityofWestfield
City Council in 17 years. I am excited to bring my leadership experience to this campaign and to the Council!
#LetsGoHamCo
I agree with what
@GovHolcomb
is saying here about the GOP gubernatorial nominees.
That is why
@mccormickforgov
is CLEARLY the most qualified candidate for governor. She has a vision, a plan, and the experience Indiana needs. Sheās here to help Hoosiers.
As the stateās chief executive, you wonāt be able to rely on slogans or empty campaign promises to yield positive results. Instead, your vision, and where you want to lead the state must be accompanied by detailed plans that you will implement.
While the Republicans in the IN General Assembly are trying to throw librarians in jail, Hoosiers are stuck with some of the lowest wage growth in the nation.
We need to help the middle class instead of fabricate culture wars.
From my interview w/My Labor Radio
@mgevaart
The law will allow parents āto request the banning of certain school library books they deem "offensive," and school librarians to be punished with felonies for having such books.ā
Felonies. For school librarians. For books.
Just when you think this shit canāt get any crazier
The majority of Hoosiers support legalized marijuana and abortion. Yet both are illegal. š¤
This is why we need a ballot initiative process! (Like the bill
@Sen_GregTaylor
filed) Hoosiers should be able to make their voices heard on individual issues.
In its first round of results from the 2023 Hoosier Survey, officials with the Bowen Center for Public Affairs at Ball State University in Muncie provided data on Hoosiers' beliefs on certain social issues, like marijuana use and abortion.
Well, we tried. It didnāt work out as we wanted. But I am still hopeful. I saw a lot of good during this run, and met a lot of good people.
To everyone that supported me, helped out, or voted for me: thank you. Your support means more than I can ever explain.
Kind of funny to me that all the Republican candidates for IN governor use the same phrase: Indiana needs new bold leadership.
And then proceed to propose to all do the same things that the current governor is already doing. Bold. Very bold.
Why are Indianaās waters the most polluted in the nation? Because our Republican supermajority doesnāt care that Indianaās waters are the most polluted in the nation.
Want the General Assembly to do something about pollution? Then letās flip some seats in the General Assembly.
Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch has announced her campaign for governor.
"I have a clear vision for Indianaās future ā lower taxes, keep our citizens safe, protect the sanctity of life, and defend Hoosier values,ā Crouch said.
Asked about abortion,
@GovHolcomb
talks capital investments-all he ever talks about.
While IN ranks at bottom on healthcare, education & pollution.
Holcomb cares about investors, not investing in Hoosiers.
IN needs a gov that truly cares about Hoosiers-like
@mccormickforgov
#hoosiertwitter
we have to call out this coded messaging.
You know how I know this message was coded? Because he wouldnāt have made the same ad about me.
Fred Glynn, your mailer was offensive and you know it. Iām calling on Glynn to apologize to
@wilburn4IN
Public education is how we build a better Kentucky, but we can't get there if our school funding is given to private corporations. Public dollars are for public schools. Period.
Itās so inspiring to see young people stand up for the peers. This generation of kids that are currently in school could be the most tolerant and accepting generation yet.
Crowds of students have begun to walk out of Northern Virginia schools in protest of Gov. Youngkinās proposed restrictions on transgender studentsā rights. WATCH LIVE:
Too many politicians talk about Hoosier Hospitality but then pass laws that are the exact opposite.
Hoosier Hospitality is more than just treating others with respect. It means helping those in need. It means showing compassion and kindness to others, even when we disagree.
Indiana, if you believe that love is love, then please help us stop House Bill 1291 by contacting your representative and telling them you believe in marriage equality.
Click the link below to find out who your reps are:
The IN House Democrats are rightly calling for raising the minimum wage.
Indiana, here is why we should raise the minimum wage (included - the research proven fact that it doesnāt cause inflation!)
Indiana - here are just 3 examples of voter suppression by the supermajority and our Secretary of State!
Go to to make sure you are registered to vote and the info is accurate!
Here is my wish list to make Indiana more democratic (yes I mean lower case d) and accountable to voters
1.
@TheDestinyWells
as SOS
2. Independent redistricting commission
3. Referendum/ballot initiative process
Iām pro-choice:
-pro a woman choosing what to do with her body
-pro parents choosing what books their kids can read
-pro being able to choose who you want to marry.
Indiana's General Assembly has decided that if they don't agree with your lifestyle, beliefs or orientation, they will just pass a law that targets you.
Let's call it what it really is: bullying.
As State Senator, I will do what my mom taught me in school: stand up to bullies.
Crazy week as we just got an unexpected foster placement.
Which leads me to my point: for all the people saying they only cared about wanting to help kids, itās time to start helping kids
We shouldnāt weaponize our institutions, says the man who has weaponized our institutions against Dr. Bernard, IU Health, women and their medical records, parents of LGBTQ childrenā¦.
Congrats to
@KenPaxtonTX
on being acquitted from this sham impeachment. This whole process was a tremendous waste of time and taxpayer money. It was an insult to 4.2 million Texans who voted for their attorney general. Weaponizing our institutions to silence the voice of 'We the
Michigan flipped chambers for the 1st time in 40 yrs. If you suggested that 10 yrs ago, you would have gotten a lot of š.
We can do the same Indiana. Itās just going to take some time (okay), a lot of work (letās do it), and some badass candidates (got āem already thank you).
šØMAJOR FLIP ALERT! šØ
Democrats in Michigan FLIPPED THE STATE HOUSE & SENATE!!!
This is a huge victory in the fight to preserve and protect democracy in Michigan!
@MichiganDems
So now that I lost my election, how long do I leave ācandidate for state senateā in my twitter bio? Itās like how soon do I take the Christmas tree down after Christmas? Like, does it let people know that I was running or does it look like I have lights on my porch in March?
Itās interesting how many people are saying you canāt raise corporate taxes because corporations will just pass the cost on to customers.
But corporations didnāt pass along the savings with the corporate tax cuts.
Itās almost like trickle down economics doesnāt workā¦
When I interviewed for a job as a Deputy AG in 2015, then AG Greg Zoeller told me that the AGās office should be the least partisan in the state because our only client was Indiana.
How times have changed. The AGās office is now weaponized to fight extreme partisan fights.
As a lifelong Hoosier, I promise you-these hateful groups do not represent us.
We want this hate out of our state. Most Hoosiers are tolerant and kind. Hoosier Hospitality is real.
This is a SMALL group of lost souls. Don't believe this represents Indiana. Because it does not.
Hey
#indiana
- letās not let national interest groups interfere in our elections (especially when itās the Club for Growth and they grow inequality and pollution)
Indiana has the 3rd worst air pollution in America. I havenāt heard a single Republican running for office in Indiana address this. I (and all Dems running) will address this head on.
When Indiana votes this year, we are literally voting for the air we breathe
Many states have ballot initiatives/referendums. Get enough signatures and the issue gets put on the ballot and voters get to decide.
Indiana does not.
As State Senator, I would always support adding ballot initiatives/referendums.
Itās called democracy. I trust voters
Indiana - letās talk about the mental health of our kids.
Mental health MUST be a non-partisan issue. Our kidsā mental health and lives are too important.
Indianaās abortion ban begins today. But remember this isnāt the end of it. We can fight back - this November at the ballot box.
#RoevemberIsComing
I keep getting asked as a candidate what else did we need? Infrastructure and volunteers. The Rās have those in spades. If you truly want to see Dās win races in IN, find your local Democrat Club, join, and volunteer. There is so much we can do to build up for the next election.
Greedflation explained.
A majority of the inflation we experience at the store is caused by corporations using inflation as an excuse to jack up profits. Thus,
#greedflation
All Hoosiers should have access to affordable healthcare.
The Indiana GOP intentionally caused the out of control healthcare costs in Indiana.
We Democrats WILL fight for cheaper healthcare costs.
If I were paid to craft an argument for a single payer, nationalized healthcare program in the United States, I would make this exhibit
#1
.
A supermajority GOP state cannot prevent is residents from being railroaded by the not for profit hospital industry.
Hey
#Democrats
in Westfield - when the next election rolls around and someone tries to tell you that youāre vote doesnāt matter - remember that
@Alexis4WF
was only 24 votes away from being the first Dem in the city council!
Your vote matters!
Indiana, be prepared. There will be much misinformation in 2024.
So be on the lookout for information you know canāt be real, like: made-up quotes that are out of character, falsified arrest records, or
@SenatorBraun
having a policy that actually helps the middle class.
Elon Musk just fired half of the Election Integrity Team at X.
Allowing election misinformation to fester on this platform opens our democracy up to further attack and disinformation.
But Elon seems fine with that.
Proud to be endorsed by Planned Parenthood Advocates of Indiana as the candidate who will support your reproductive rights and health care access in District 24.
@PPact
If we got rid of partisan gerrymandering, people would be shocked at the de-escalation of tribalism.
Imagine a world where politicians were concerned about ALL their constituents and not just winning their primary.
I introduced a bill that would eliminate partisan gerrymandering once and for all. Instead of allowing voters to be stripped of their voice by unfair maps, letās act to protect our basic principle of one person, one vote.
One of the biggest grifts of the last 50 years is the fact that millions of Americans that donāt own stocks have been conditioned to judge the economy on the stock market instead of their own wage growth and access to affordable healthcare.

It's time for change! Today, we're proud to announce the McCormick-Goodin Commonsense Cannabis Legalization Plan. This plan isn't just about cannabisāit's about unlocking $177M in annual tax revenues for Indiana. Let's invest in our future!

we had a blast. We ended up knocking 518 doors in Tipton these last few weekends. What was interesting was more than any area, the voters here didnāt care as much about the party - they cared about the quality of the person.
