12yo sleepover at our house:
Walk inside. Kid
#1
looks at me with joy. Walks over. Extends hand.
“Hi, it’s so nice to meet you! My name’s Maxwell!”
“Nice to meet you, Maxwell. Who taught you that?”
“My dad. He tries.”
I bet I could walk through my hometown in uniform today and get a ton of thanks from the same folks who just disowned me for being a Democrat. Hard to square.
Maxwell just told me he believes in access to women’s abortion care and LGBTQIA+ rights. Then he asked for my yard sign.
Kid
#2
followed up with questions. I answered.
Two yard signs now going to new homes.
12yo boy sleepover complete.
#faith4thefuture
“Having this sleepover keeps you from walking w/ me tomorrow in the Pride parade.”
Maxwell: “I’d love to go, but I have a moss meeting for my reef tank in the morning.”
“A reef tank, huh?” 🐠
Maxwell: “40 gallons, but I’m looking to scale up later this month. Moving to a 70.”
Kid
#2
is talking about how a “bad kid” acts out.
I ask if he’s really bad or badly behaved.
Maxwell says “My mom works in recovery and asks herself ‘why is this behavior happening?’”

Been here many times as a lawyer dealing with prisoners claiming they have a sincerely held religious belief that requires a restrictive diet. Just wait until he orders any non-organic food from the commissary and he’ll lose his organic meals. Ramen gets them every time.
He has no idea what is going on, just that Mom’s been gone a lot. Here’s to making the time apart count — ready to be Indiana’s next Secretary of State!
“We’re gonna put kids in cages, it’s gonna be glorious.” -“Mike Davis, the former Chief Counsel for Nominations to Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley.”
“He oversaw the floor votes for 278 nominees, including the confirmations of Justice Brett Kavanaugh and the record
"We're gonna deport a lot of people, 10 million people and growing - anchor babies, their parents, their grandparents. We're gonna put kids in cages. It's gonna be glorious."
@JasonSCampbell
- Mike Davis, The Article III Project. Ex-Gorsuch clerk.
Tonight I ended up in an interview talking about neo-fascists marching our streets in downtown Indy. Why me? Because our elected leaders aren’t speaking up.
Let me be clear: I will show up Every. Single. Time. Against white supremacy.
Democracy will prevail.
#VoteBlueIn2022
Jim Bopp gave us Citizens United, peddled Big Lie litigation, and takes clients of the likes of MTG and Madison Cawthorn. He is THE lawyer advocating for the far-right extremism that is actively destroying our democracy—yes, even attorneys can be dangerous.
NEW: The powerful Indiana attorney Jim Bopp told POLITICO the 10-year-old Ohio girl who crossed state lines to receive an abortion here should have carried her pregnancy to term and would have been required to do so under his law. W/
@meganmesserly
.
A pregnant 10-year-old flown to my state to escape forced labor. Unconfirmed reports of a teenager dying in Missouri as lawyers and doctors debated her ectopic pregnancy. The independent state legislature THEORY actually being given oxygen by SCOTUS.
It’s okay to not be okay.
I’m in a tossup against an election denier, yet Democrats sometimes label our race as non-critical because we’re neither a blue state nor a swing state. We must change our strategy in the fight against autocracy.
Today the
@indgop
removed all references of DEMOCRACY from its platform. In the face of this rising authoritarianism, good people refuse to stand by and do nothing. Our better angels must stand up —
#VoteYourDestiny
& safeguard our treasured democracy!
As an attorney, I am truly appalled by
@AGToddRokita
’s public statement yesterday in response to his violations of our Indiana Rules of Professional Conduct. And as a fellow mother who often sees Dr. Caitlin Bernard in our Indianapolis community, I am deeply angered by his
“We are considering legal action against those who have smeared my client, including Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita, and know that the facts will all come out in due time.” 👩🏻🍳💋
To all of those now “moving to a blue state,” remember those without such privilege. Those who are just making ends meet, who are disabled or w/ disabled family, who are devoted caretakers, who simply have no choice. The already oppressed never stop fighting. Dig in.
They may not call us a swing state today, but never forget
@BarackObama
won Indiana in 2008. In retaliation, the GOP targeted voting access in urban counties with sizable minority populations while increasing access in white Republican suburbs. Indiana has yet to recover. 1/6
If we want our democracy to function, we have to show up this election for the Governors, Secretaries of State and the candidates down the ballot who are going to protect voting rights and our electoral process. Because these seats wield a lot of power, and that power matters.
I promise as Indiana Secretary of State, I will not use taxpayer money for purposes outside the scope of my duties. My priority will be inside the borders of Indiana—not seeking national limelight at every opportunity; & I will serve Hoosiers’ best interest, not my own ambition.
I'm headed to the border to investigate the impact of illegal immigration on IN. In Dec. alone 178,840 illegals were stopped at the border. This is my 2nd trip in 3 months to gather evidence of the border crisis & its damage ahead of further legal action.
A great night for black women candidates in Indiana. Terre Haute elects Kandace Hinton, its first black woman to city council. Angie Nelson-Deuitch as mayor in Michigan City.
@DebWhitfield
mayor in Lawrence. Now for Stephanie Terry as mayor of Evansville!!! 🥳🥳
GOP Rep. Spartz: If the January 6 insurrectionists wanted to do an insurrection they would have succeeded. They were expressing themselves peacefully. It is un-American to call them insurrectionists, they are good Americans
I heard there were 30 cosplaying racists down the street earlier today, while there were hundreds of pro-union folks a block away celebrating LaborFest. This is literally fascism versus democracy. The choice isn’t hard.
#VoteBlueIn2022
Thank you for the outpouring of courageous support. It has been a difficult week, but my colleagues and I will continue to provide healthcare ethically, lovingly, and bravely each and every day. 1/2
Great news! The Indiana Supreme Court denied the ACLU's and Planned Parenthood’s last-second, desperate petition for rehearing to stop Indiana’s pro-life law. This is another win for the lives of the unborn.
Read the order here:
If you can’t denounce a far-right group that recklessly quotes Hitler, and that advocates to expand book bans and whitewash history, then why should you lead one of America’s best places to live?
Carmel, Indiana’s mayoral is a litmus test for our nation democratically moving
Secretary of State races are a matter of national security, and election deniers, like my opponent, are a direct threat to democracy. It’s our moral obligation to win.
The Indiana legislature continues to posture for Obergefell to be overturned. Meaning if it is ever overturned (think Roe), Indiana already has an updated trigger law on the books to not recognize gay marriage. This is true of many states—welcome to our red hellscape —vote Dem.
Red state Democrats can’t just be palatable to disenfranchised Republicans.
Democrats must INSPIRE the progressive base into action.
It’s a hard-as-hell recipe that requires unapologetic changemakers.
Back to the test kitchen.
Northern America just witnessed the first woman to be elected a country leader. She is a climate scientist, feminist, pro-LGBT, and secular Jew.
Congratulations, Mexico.
Every time I read an article or hear commentary about how impossible it is for me to win my race, it feels like a microcosm of the women's place in Indiana. I'm here to say that come November, they're all about to find out the women have had enough.
Watching the Swiftie concert ticket hysteria and contemplating lack of youth voter turnout in Indiana. Indiana was 6th lowest in the country (-14%) for youth voter registration this year compared to ‘18. Michigan was first at +38%. Wildly different election outcomes resulted.
🚨 BREAKING! Our first TV ad 📺 is on the air!
#INSOS
Diego Morales is unfit to serve as Secretary of State and it's crucial that Hoosier voters hear our message.
Diego: “We have Attorney General Todd Rokita—which by the way, everything I know I learned from Todd Rokita—I’ve worked for him!”
Audience member: “Oh no.”
Todd Rokita: [nervous laughter]

Collective booing toward
@AGToddRokita
at tonight’s Our Choice Coalition event honoring
@drcaitbernard
. Despite her nomination by women for Indiana’s Torchbearer award for her OB/GYN work,
@GovHolcomb
quietly had it withdrawn. Tonight hundreds of Hoosiers voice their opposition.
Rokita has been thirsty to get on Fox News since this story developed, and has fabricated a witch hunt at the hands of the State to get his 15 seconds. It’s an abuse of office, and a travesty for the safety and health of women. This cannot stand.
This guy and I forgot our wedding anniversary was Wednesday. We’re living warp speed right now, but taking it all in and all on together. Love you

at the Indiana Statehouse as I leave to campaign in northwest Indiana. Today and forward is so consequential for pregnant Hoosiers—please vote those into office who vow to protect them.
“Indiana has one of the weakest democracies in the nation. Indiana has considerable work to do to strengthen its democracy, especially its campaign finance and ethics laws, which are the worst in the country.”
Full report:
Explaining to my Republican farmer dad and father-in-law that Micah Beckwith could potentially be in charge of the Indiana State Department of Agriculture if they vote Braun is going to be awkward.
Indiana Republican Party, y’all have lost the plot.
Our AG supports little girls carrying a pregnancy to term when they’ve been raped, yet is gravely concerned about TikTok poisoning their minds. Did I get that right?
Being the kid who went to Greenwood Mall more times than she can count, I’m deeply appalled to know my home turf is yet another place overtaken by gun violence. We grieve for all of those harmed, & for the family & friends of those tragically killed. We can’t accept this reality.
Mary Peltola has defeated Sarah Palin and is the first Democrat to represent Alaska in the House in 50 years.
In case you were wondering how the “red wave” went.
I love when I’m told I should talk less about my reproductive rights being usurped by a minority of power-hungry, political zealots and instead talk more about the economy. Like oppressing women out of the work force has no impact on the economy.
I just watched
@AGToddRokita
have a press conference to badmouth his agency client, the Indiana Department of Health, blame his client IDOH for collusion with the Public Access Counselor, and then call on the public to sue IDOH as a remedy.
Folks, Rokita needs to get out.
I’m not planning to run for office again anytime soon. So if you’re here for the performative altruistic tweets of a campaigner, you should probably go. Follow your heart — follow someone you really like! Here, there’s just the snark of a woman from Indiana.
We don’t want him as our AG any longer, let alone
@AGToddRokita
self-appointing as our Education Czar. These Red Scare tactics and moral depravity echo political strongmen of the past. Good people must step up and act against this.
Our office's 'Eyes on Education' portal is live! To submit and view real examples of curricula, policies, or programs affecting children from classrooms across the state, click here:
Thank you President Trump for your endorsement. I will continue working on behalf of Hoosiers to put Indiana first while helping make America great again.
This isn’t just the creep of Christian nationalism into our politics, it’s the naked power grab of a charlatan emboldened by a desensitized electorate. Come on, Indiana—we have the power to stop this.
Imagine “Libs of TikTok,” but created by a state government to pillory public school teachers.
Indiana's AG has crowdsourced a creepy website, where citizens can expose “socialist indoctrination” in schools.
It’s called “Eyes on Education.”

Indiana already has the most restrictive voter ID law in the country: government provided photo ID. Yet my opponent says his priority is even stricter voter ID laws, including possibly supplying a birth certificate to vote. This is asinine—if only he were brave enough to debate.
Parents aren’t “chop[ping] off [their] kid’s genitalia” in Indiana, no matter what AG Rokita says or figuratively signals with his hand. Yes, even if he does the chopping motion with his hand.
#AmateurHour
Today would have been Roe v. Wade’s 50th anniversary. Indiana’s Jim Banks tells
@WISH_TV
he will support federal legislation against abortion as its next U.S. Senator. When Democrats only win nationally by a hair, these aren’t just red state problems—they’re American problems.
At the Indiana Statehouse watching another symptom of gerrymandering: minority rule stripping women of their freedom and right to self-determination. Legislators are in tears demanding their counterparts listen to the majority of Hoosiers. 1/
“The passage of extreme legislation like Senate Enrolled Act 1 is yet another reflection on gerrymandering’s intended consequence—eroding the duty of elected officials to listen to voters. As Secretary of State, I will restore accountability to our election system.”

🚨 BREAKING! I am honored to be given
@votevets
’ endorsement! As a military intelligence officer, I have seen first-hand the state of
#democracy
across the world and I am proud to have VoteVets’ support as I continue to defend access to democracy in the
#INSOS
office.
In 2018, Governor Holcomb signed SEA 266, banning certain headlight colors, such as red and blue, to reduce confusion as to emergency vehicle identification. Violation will result in a ticket and fine. Maybe Indiana’s Chief Legal Officer needs a copy of the code.
Once-pregnant Indiana patients will now incur the emotional and financial burden of burial or cremation of fetal remains. Indiana’s Attorney General references these remains as “bodies.”
Below, photo of an 8-week-old “body.”
While I'm flattered my entrance into the AG's race is the majority of the below referenced podcast interview, I respectfully ask that
@AGToddRokita
not use his state social media accounts for campaign purposes. See Ethics Rule 42 IAC 1-5-4; IC 4-2-6-17.
Thank you.
I often visit my husband’s hometown in Fulton County. I know Democrats who live there; they don’t hate America. I also know Republicans, my relatives and friends, who live there, and they don’t like
@AGToddRokita
’s rhetoric pitting Americans against each other. This is wrong.
If men in the Army can obtain religious exemptions to grow beards based on their Norse pagan faith, pregnant women should have a right to abortion based on religious freedom.
